Literally this one, lol. As a trombone player this was one of the first solos I tried to transcribe and learn that was reachable. Something to note about Fred Wesley is that his timing and placement of notes is incredible. He can make a whole note on the major six sound cool!
But not for me Miles Davis 2nd take 1954 and Blue Monk, Thelonious Monk trio (Art Blakey, Percy Heath) for every thing but superb Percy Heath solo, simple nice wonderful solo
I love this solo but the other Wesley’s solo that i would love to learn is the one that he play on « shake everything you got » in the « Life on Planet Groove » 😍😍
"Prince & The New Power Generation - Sexy M. F." it has a so dope tenor sax solo and well the guitar too! but the solo tenor sax should be amazing to watch your analize and performance. Regards from Germany!
What I love about this lesson is it’s emphasis on the rhythms used to generate the different phrases. Learning the rhythms is going to be a biggie for me rather than the notes played. The rhythmic phraseology used has given me a fresh perspective on how to approach jazz playing. Thank you for an awesome lesson 🎶🎹🎸🥁😎
I was noodling with the melody of Twinkle Twinkle little star, and observing how different rhythms completely change the tune. Coming from classical piano, and still struggling to free myself from strictly playing the notes on the sheet music, I am realizing it is a completely different skill. 😳 I frequently need to return to elementary basics to further understand improvisation.
I've been following this channel for a few years now and my musical knowledge has grown a lot. I don't speak English, but the examples he gives in the score makes it easy to understand.
One of the most pleasing solos to my ear is Chet Baker on “it could happen to you”. Thank you for all the incredible videos Nick. I’m learning and finding great things to practice from your channel. Much appreciated.
So cool Nick !! I am trying to work on 3 of your lessons and i think i could spend my life on them and now you propose another super top one … you need to provide additional hours to the standard day 😀 Thank you, please keep on sharing
Fantastic stuff, really well put together and organized, but one thing that really bothered me was the misplaced drum loop from the section at 3:53. The drum beat is somehow starting on beat 3 of the pattern, which makes the whole solo sound two beats off and undermines all the phrasing... It really adds unnecessary confusion
Sounds cool to me for a midi beat and does the job. Of course if you would like to be a Patreon and contribute it would be awesome so I could get a real life drummer....
What solos do you think are good to learn if you are starting out?

Very thoroughly broken down and analysed, Nick. For a non genius, I’d say you are pretty amazing. Keep up the good work of demystifying jazz. 🙏🌞🇬🇧🌞🙏
I dare to disagree on the genius thing. This level of teachery and clarity in ideas and exposition is definitely something else. Great job Nick!

The JB horns rock! (Or funk, better said...)
Buenas . en español hace falta!!!
Do you have it written in bass clef.?
Trombone
4:50 Cruella DeVille
But it's only 2% jazz and 98% funky stuff... How come there's so much jazz here?
Funky and a little roots reggae :)
