      Res B lol! How’d you know I was thinking of fret-jam?? 😂

Stacy McMillan didnt ... but it's actually just too obvious ... both of them are brilliant in their own way ... but still ... very similar. Meaning ... short ... clear ... to the point without one word too much ... but still very entertaining. Short ... THE two brilliant ones 😉!!!

This is part of really focusing while playing. Never wander and let your body take over, it has to come from the inside not just what falls under your fingers.

I cannot agree more. Good rhythm can even cover mistakes. With good rhythm, one can nail a great solo using only two notes.

Truth. "Music is 90% rhythm" -sayeth some old flute dude pedagogue. Horn players: Take up Percussion. Piano. Guitar. Bass. Something in the rhythm section. Study afro-cuban music - no room for any slop in this style. Above all, find someone with good time. And don't get discouraged when they tell you need to work on your time. Exercises? Get out your metronome. Start slow to learn fast. Have it beat out all 4 (or 3). Have it beat only 1. Have it beat only 4. Have it beat 2 and 4. It becomes fun, like having your own rhythm section, right Jazz Duets?

Andy Quinn Another idea, try to keep it with a deadly slow beat to make friends with every note, and nail each note, deliberately, just on time.

Yes. But nothing is harder than slow, and I try to be kind to my students. But, fast is slow. Diz told us that. Which means slow is probably fast. On another note, part of having good time is realizing when you are speeding up. Not that speeding up is bad, but it can kill groove. Exercise: play time and increase then decrease dynamics. Don't vary time. Key for being a bandmate. Remember: Metronome time is not good time. The metronome will teach you good time though! How many of you readers know the sound of beat 4?

Andy Quinn there's an online metronome called drum trainer that will let you kill the clicks on every other bar and is configurable. Within 8 bars you can see what's up.
