    Great breakdown here Paul. I live the way Maceo makes such powerful solos from simple ideas!

    Love this lesson, very interesting and clear. I normally don’t feel very connected with funk but here I did. Nice also to see your emotion on the piece 🎶🎷🎶

    Hi PAUL,
    I’ve just listened to this and it’s amazing how he can make so much out of his playing with his rhythms and phrasing,
    It’s one of those things like you can know all your scales and arpeggios or chord changes but if you don’t know how or when or where to use them it
    Doesn’t really mean anything.

      Exactly Ronald, how you play is always more important than what you play!

    This is a great explanation of this solo and how it is constructed. It would also be good to get a explanation of how backing saxophones go about their business. The Cannonball sax players for example are all great musicians but sometimes they sit behind the main player playing solo but how does all this work?

      Thanks! I think it varies from band to band, some will be very structured with almost everything written, while on the other end of the spectrum some will be completely spontaneous in terms of how they create their backings.

    That was a great lesson, Maceo is amazing! Your bar by bar detailed explanation was informative and fun! You explained the o and + for the D note, what is the fingering for the o and + for the F note? Thanks!

    • @OnlineSaxAcademy
      @OnlineSaxAcademy  Год назад

      Thanks Jim! The F note in videos score is in concert pitch. The actual alto sax note is the D that I talk about, that is in the alto sax score.

      Paul, my bad... I meant what fingering would you suggest for the G note (on the Tenor), I fat fingered "F" and didn't go back and review my reply.

    • @OnlineSaxAcademy
      @OnlineSaxAcademy  Год назад

      Ah I see! You could put down fingers for a low C and play the overtone of that G, or you could add fingers 2 and 3 and your low C little finger in the right hand on and that will change the timbre of the G

      Thanks Paul, I'll go for the latter right now since I'm not precise with my overtones. 🙄
