Check this out, it's a brand of mosquito netting that may work far better than the stuff I tried in the video. It also comes in very large sizes and might work great for outdoor applications - www.mosquitocurtains.com/1-footer-mosquito-netting-screen-patio-porch/Halloween-Projection-Screen-Material.html
i saw someone comment before about a frsted shower curtain liner , what are your thoughts on that for rear projection? also used to have this plastic on a roll that was translucent kinda like a plastic milk jug maybe a little less opaque i don't know if you can still get it at lowes or homedepot
I've got the black no-see-um mesh from this link. I don't like it. The image quality is poor on it. It is hard to detect the mesh at night, so it is easy to hide, but the projection picture quality on it with a 2000 lumen projector isn't very good. I think the real problem is that it is too opaque and blocks too much light transmission.
My last house had multiple windows and I just hung a frosted shower curtain from Dollar Tree or Walmart on a curtain rod on every window and the projection image was crystal clear and probably five times brighter than what you will get with most Fabrics. The Frosted shower curtain plastic really grabs and holds onto the projection light. It down side is, you are not going to see through it at all, so if you want it to look like a ghost that you see through with no privacy where people can see into your house, then it's not what you're looking for. I just wanted to look like white sheers or curtains in my windows during the day that had video projections that night, but I definitely understand wanting to be able to see through the ghost into the house even though personally I don't like people seeing me walking around in my house lol. If I wanted people to see into the house I would do the chiffon and if I wanted privacy or a brighter clear image I would do a frosted shower curtain.
Thank for the review. I am thinking about chiffon and search "projection on chiffon fabric" and it led me here! I want to fake a "hologram" effect but afraid that if the screen material is too transparent, the light will fall right through the fabric/plastic. Trying to find a right opacity before ordering.
I’m confused lol but it’s me not you. We are gonna do a projection in front doorway..we are gonna keep our main front door open and we have a clear glas storm door we will keep closed and a cloth behind it with the projector inside. What would YOU suggest for fabric?
This has been the most useful information I have found all day on the internet! One of the things I love best is that you didn't just talk about it but you flat-out showed us the difference! I really can't thank you enough for creating this video for us...it is the most informative way to show us all exactly what you are talking about! Very well done, I applaud you! Can't wait to put on my own hologram display for Halloween!
Alberto Sanchez 8528770 my store didn’t have any, but I did the Casa Super Stretch Mesh “Lunar Rock” and it works great. A little lighter color than this though. That one is 160705.
I've done Halloween projections in my front window for years just using a white sheet. I'm trying the hologram effect this year and found this video VERY helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to show us all these options... I now have a clearer direction of what I need!
Thanks for the great comparison! I don’t want people seeing into my living room so I used an opaque fabric which although not as dramatic still looks great with the right materials. What you did looks so good I might try it next Halloween. For my effect I tried a bunch of different materials and founds that an inexpensive white mesh material shower liner looks crisp and clear.
Great video! I’m not looking to make Halloween decorations, but I am working on a friend’s dj visuals, and I honestly think the mosquito netting looks the best for that considering it seems like the brightest of the more transparent fabrics you featured here. Really glad I got to see someone who knows what they’re talking about demo this stuff, very helpful!
The Joann's Chiffon is superior to all of them in looks and price. It also gives a brighter sharper picture. Thank you very much for taking the time, and money to make this great informative video. It's a big help!
Thank you so much I bought the lilac gray and it worked. I made a frame for the material and projected it outside. It looks sooo awesome 👍thanks again.
This will be my first time using projection in my windows this year. Thank you for doing the homework on fabric selection for us. I really like the Chiffon fabric. Two thumbs up on the video.
Fantastic material review, exactly what I need just starting out in this hollusion world! Thank you & keep this going for years to come for those who will follow in our tracks!
Thank you for this very informative video for any Atmosfear FX lover like myself. I am going to look into the chiffon this year for one of my videos. Awesome!!!
I got the same color house, shutters and window setup. Last year I bought the setup from BJs with small projector and SD card of videos. Kids loved it. Time to up the game!
Brilliant video!! Have been pondering on what to use. Actually bought the tulle before watching this. Now have enough time to find some chiffon!!! Thank you for your time!
Thank you so much for making this comparison video of fabrics... I bet that was a lot of work and expense to go through, but it really informs us of what it takes to make this illusion work. In my case, I purchased the AtmosFx material in the off season last year (2018) when it was on sale 1/2 off, still it's pricey... If I saw your video first I might have bought the Chiffon material instead because I liked the lighter appearance, but on the other hand the AtmosFX material has grommets so it might make deploying it easier. For this year (2019) I will be using the AtmosFx Hollusion for my garage haunt in the back where I plan to put my graveyard scene... we shall see if I get the results I'm looking for (I'll post on my channel when I can)
I had the same issues with tulle. It pixelated and reflected oddly. Very disappointed when I used it. Thanks for this actual comparison, it's a HUGE help.👍😊
Thank You for the video it helped allot. I got some semi translucent chiffon from ali express i got light gray / space gray / and white. They all worked out great. The grays i put out side and the white for the windows and they turned out spectacular. They drew a very large crowed ( Unbelievably Large ) So many thanks for your help. am now going to use them for X.Mas as well as halloween.
Thank you for this video it was a great help now I know what I need for a good price thanks for the amount of detail and effort and time you spent on this awesome video.
Thanks for the comparison my friend. You made a detailed report that was spot-on and helped to make my decision. I would go with yours, handsdown. Not only way less expensive than the atmosfere fx, but I thought it looked better, less noticeable and a much sharper image.
Thank you so much I've been wanting to do this and I have several projectors but I didn't have the material and I wasn't sure what to get and I didn't have time to buy a bunch of stuff and try them out so thank you for saving the time and money. I do have some sheer curtains I was going to try and use from Goodwill so I will see how that works but they may be made out of chiffon cross your fingers. Thank you so much you're awesome
This is great info. I've done projections two years in a row and thinking now about what material to use this year. I think I'll try Chiffon this now! My first year I used a dark thule that as you say is very transparent. I was happy with the projection but wanted something that would catch more light. Thus, last year I used a simple frosted shower curtain. Its the cheapest way to go and the polar opposite of thule. You can't see through it at all but the picture detail was fantastic. I've been thinking about doing an outdoor, mid yard projection next year if I can figure a way to get the street light that's in front of my house to go out...
Great video JCO, thanks. Have been agonisingly comparing fabrics but I will try to get some chiffon too though I may try a shade darker. A shame your video resolution wasnt the greatest quality so I could get a feel of the weave of the fabric. I will try this here in England this year now you've helped sort this. Thanks JCO
I used voile, very similar to chiffon , stiffer , but comes in 118 inches wide for larger applications. Hung in doorway and it looks fantastic! Sheer as well. Got mine in platinum, 4 yards for $27 with shipping. Great video!
@@jco685 looks like Hobby Lobby and JoANN fabric both carry it. I’m doing a last min. setup and based on what I see, it might work better than other materials. ruclips.net/video/Vp1N9b6Z9VM/видео.html

Earlier today I had spent some time one of the Halloween forums, and came across several people who really liked the Platinum Chiffon. I found it on JoAnn's site for $3.99 /yd. and ordered 4 yds. thanks just dont have this sort of thing in the UK but i now have all the ingredients to do this myself but was having trouble with the screen keep up the good work.
Thank you for your comparison review it was very helpful. I purchased AtmosFearFX material at first but I have another larger area I want to do and AtmosFear doesn’t offer larger sizes and I don’t want seams so the Chiffon should work perfectly.👍🏻
Thank you!! For taking the time to and money to educate us on this subject! I love AtmosFearfx!,.. Chiffon is the best deal ! Thanks again for your time!

I love this video, it’s such a helpful comparison and really helps demo the things you want in a transparent projection material.
thorough. Appreciate the written breakdown of each fabric+cost. The whole video is really helpful!
6 years later you have helped me figure out how to solve a problem with this video! Thank you!
Thank you for taking the time to test the different fabrics. I'm using an off white chiffon in our kitchen window and it looks fantastic!

Chiffon to me is the best option 😁👍🏻thanks for the video

Thank you in my opinion I like the chiffon the best because its the clearest and brightest. All the other nettings to me was just to dark.
I ordered the sheer curtains from amazon 98” x 110” x 2 giving me enough to cover any 2 doorways and a picture window. And it was under $10.00
let me know how it goes
