I did everything in the video getting every bit of carbon off the intake as well as cleaning the MAF and my Tahoe's performance went from stalling with chugging power to a steady idle and the power I remembered when I bought it new. Thanks! Made the job super easy to follow along and get done.
Great video thanks. About 10 years ago after changing my battery, for some reason my computer went back to factory default and the truck started going into reduced engine power mode and stalling. After watching a RUclips video about this someone that had the same problem he recommended to clean the Throttle Body and had a video on it. I cleaned it and ran like a new truck again. I recently had a mechanic replace my ac tension pulley and while there he ran a diagnostic on my truck because of a check engine light. He couldnt find any code for the light so he reset my Computer to see if the light would go away and now I have reduced engine power light coming on and stalling again. I watched your video for a refresher course and it was very helpful for my oldtimers memory. Thank You!
I found your video today through a web search. My 2003 Silverado was stumbling and sometimes dying while at stop. Classic idle problem and uneven idle. A couple of years ago I thought that throttle body cleaner cleaning the throttle plate was enough. Your video shoed me that removing the TB definitely is the way to go. I followed step by step and got it removed an very clean. I was somewhat surprised how sooty the other side of the throttle plate was. The clips holding the coolant hoses were actually the worst part of the process. I also cleaned the MAF sensor, My truck at idle stays steady at 700 RPM (it was fluttering and flounder to barely 500 RPM with intermittent death. NOTE: Buy the correct products to do this maintenance Throttle Body Cleaner and MAF sensor cleaner. Thanks Ecanix Garage
I've been looking up some videos for a while and a lot of them say don't touch the butterfly because it can mess with the idle in the computer, but obviously you didn't have any issues! I've got a 2000 6.0 thanks for the video I subscribed!
Whitney Allison yes you can get a high idle and check engine light..p0507 you’ll get..the engine will run very loud and hot..the idle will be very high then you’ll wish you had a scan tool that can perform a idle learn reset
Great video, I used chem tool b12 to clean it. They truck ran I little rough at first, let it run for 5 min and now it runs great. Saved me from having to buy a new throttle body. Thanks
There's also a throddle body position sensor wire connector , that's connects also to to the alternator you must unplug first. he didn't mention that his is off already , I know that bc I replaced my cracked throddle sensor all by myself yesterday he needs to make a video of it as well it's a job I tell u. This is like my 100,000 mile clean, if never done before. 😆 The 30,000 mile cleans just get sprayed while under the hood and cleaned with a wrag. About half a can of cleaner is used, and I'm certain about 1/2 of that goes thru the system and cleans some places i can't reach.
I've met this guy in person, he helped me diagnose my 03 Dakota took time and didn't charge for it, helping people most feel more rewarding to this guy, tks
This is a great video, however...you do not have to remove the TB. Its a fly by wire system. Turn the key to the on position, put something on the pedal and the butterfly will stay open. You can then clean it all you want.
Thanks for the video. However, I don't understand why this would make such a big increase in performance, unless i suppose the MAF sensor was really reading incorrectly. Can you explain what the problem was, and what the change is that results in a big increase in acceleration? It didn't look like anything was really all that dirty.
Thank you so much , I thought i was losing my head cause other Tahoe’s have a small throttle senor that only has two screws but mind is exactly like yours all one piece and I couldn’t figure out how to take the hole thing off cause that holes was attach to it and i took out the other end towards the alternator side and it started to leak antifreeze , but anyway thanks for this video 👍🏼
gOoGlEiZeR I've been seeing the same thing and it's frustrating. I need to replace the TPS but can't find a video showing how to change out this style...
Very informative vid brotha. I cleaned my throttle body on my 4.8 as is but I'll take it off and actually get deeper into the manifold next time and honestly didn't see results with cleaning my MAF. Are u considering on purchasing an intake system or a performance drop-in filter?
Also is that only if the electrical connection is hooked up to the throttle body? Do you think that's what they meant by don't touch the butterfly only if it's connected? it obviously seemed all right because you open the butterfly which we have to do to clean it thoroughly, but you didn't have any idle issues or anything right?
Whitney Allison no issues, that was my personal truck and I’m still driving it today with the same throttle body that’s in this video. Drives great. That particular throttle body does a relearn on its own when you disconnect the battery. I just kept the electrical facing upwards while cleaning to avoid any cleaner seeping into the electrical area via the butterfly shaft.
Nice video, Q. how do you change your Throttle pressure sensor the one on the left side with a wire connection. What type fasteners are those? Mine is exactly like your 2004 5.3 Aval.
Did you have any problem with low idle and if so did this help I had a dead battery when I put in the new battery I've been having issues with low idle and sometimes the truck will just die. Only dies and has low idle when I pull up to a red light or when I'm sitting parked in gear
@@duanesharpjr9512 I have the same issue, volts drops and it dies, alot. I have a new alternator and battery, still does it. Idk what it is, faulty regulator in new alternator.??.. Idk?
thanks for the informative how-to on cleaning the throttle body. did you have to do an idle re-learn? what's the procedure on this particular GM vehicle? i'd hate to clean the tb and then realize the engine's rpm is idling high.
You can move the butterfly.. it will relearn on it own.. if you have any issues after reinstalling just disconnect your battery for a few minutes and it will relearn on its own
Can other Silverado/Tahoe owners chime in here : if you unplug your MAF sensor harness, does your truck keep running? I'm trying to troubleshoot the MAF unit but don't have a scanner tool to read live data of it.
@@ecanixgarage1106 thank you very much for your reply. Seems another uploader posted a video claiming a sure fire way to diagnose a bad MAF is unplugging it. If it stays running, it's bad (was his claim). After more researching, I found this not to be the case. You further confirmed it for me
It seems like this would be a good time to remove and clean the Idle Air Control Valve. In my case the idle is rough until the engine warms up. What are your thoughts on this?
My engine is a 5.3 L Chevy. The IAC (Idle Air Control) is the modern version of a choke. It moves a valve at the end of a rod, mechanically in response to sensors working through a range of full closed (rich mixture) to full open (no choke). It may be goober inn the mechanical slide, a malfunctioning step motor moving the rod or bad sensors. Spray cleaner and a Q tip may be the cheap and simple answer.

how do you stop radiator fluid from spuying out? from the hoses? Thank you in advance
Victor Ayala drain radiator before you start but it’s not really worth it, you don’t lose much fluid
You can pinch the line off with a small pair of vice grips once you disconnect it if you are that concerned.
Keep one finger in the hose at all times
Just kidding

Always take pics while taking things apart as you go through steps so you can refer back to them
