So cool you got in Kent's house I think out of ten plus years I've been watching RUclips videos these is the 2 and or 3 rd video I've seen of him and he keeps very rare fish that maybe he is the only person keeping them in the states. Thanks for sharing 💗👍✌️💯
I really enjoyed this tour. I love seeing what other people keep and these were so unique . What a nice person too ! I also really appreciate his natural tank style , not bothered about some bba ( I actually really like the look ). Those mormyridae are really amazing , I’d watch those all day. Can’t wait for part 2!
Oh my gosh the first tank shown has one of my (I know I'm an oddball) favorite fish! I set up a 40 g for my 12 buffei "debauwi" catfish and will eventually be moving them to my 75. So uncommon these days - nice to see them in his display tank. Wow the Procatopus shown are beautiful. Looking forward to part 2.
Oooh, this video is SO GOOD. I LOVE seeing these fish, even though - and partly because- I will never be able to get my hands on most of them. Absolutely fascinating collection - thank you so, so much for letting us have a look, and thank you for the great commentary too.
You are very welcome. Theres a whole part 2 of native USA fish also, but im gonna wait a little just due to how slow youtube has been this month. Thanks for coming by and tuning in!
It's like seeing the crown jewels, jaw dropping! Alex, you know so many experts in this hobby who need to write a book to preserve their knowledge and specialization. Please put pretty fish pictures, lol!
He should write a book for sure! I want to get him to talk more on my channel...but luckily i jot notes after we hangout if theres a story i want to ask about later for a book haha
He has written a lot of articles in the last 20 years for sure...but passed on so much more in his in-person talks. Im so lucky to live near him and call him a friend.
That long thin mormyrid is so cool! I'm pretty envious you got to visit Lawrence's fish room. It's something I've wanted to see myself after hearing him speak in the club and seeing his Home Show presentation. His approach to the hobby with finding and collecting so many species virtually no one else keeps is inspiring.
Also regarding the Hyphessobrycon genera coming out, the channel Below Water has a number of videos covering some of the species coming out of the Orinoco Region that are worth checking out.
I couldnt agree more. He is a wealth of info. Hes so humble about it, but i wanna brag about his fish for him lol 😆 they're so fascinating, that he mostly keeps stuff he has actually seen in the wild...or collected. Even if it's years later...he will track down obscure nigerian barbs and tetras ...which i respect a ton
Cool video. I like the synodonis cat fish. We have a couple feather fins and just got a third from Craigslist the other day. I always enjoy your travels.
Man, how lucky are you to see all. I appreciate you and LRB bringing another approach to fish keeping. Well, it’s not another approach, it’s the approach, based on science. Good job brother, keep it up. Great video. Just my opinion, do these half the time(fishroom tours), but believe it or not there’s a lot of us that like your wired science videos
One thing - Altolamprologus compressiceps is from Lake Tanganyika. Lawrence knows this.I grow another morph. Tylochhromis also. Have several species but S. lucipinnis is my favourite.
I think he just mispoke then. When i looked up the spelling i noticed this also... but with Lawrence...he's brought me fish from lakes near victoria that are unknown but supposedly haplochromis, or with Buffalo heads hes brought them from places they arent listed as coming from ( green lip, blue lip, and narrow varieties ). So i just listened to his narration, since i dont know the difference lol. Thanks for the correction though! I also listed the wrong buffalo head in one case also...opps
Oops sorry I misspoke. Tylochromis lateralis is from Congo Another species is native to Lake Tanganyika. If Lawrence wants another pike livebearer male, Nationwide Aquatics in Chicagoland had mature ones as of May. I am in awe of Lawrence, for his avocation and vocation.
Lawrence Kent the Fish Whisper. Tanks of Maniac fish acting like puppies. Did you ask him if he was dosing Prozac? 🤔 Beautiful tanks! ❤ Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing this. Amazing collection of mormyrids. Now I see what all the fuss is about Ivanacara.Love that he keeps his geriatric and imperfect fish. Your video skills have improved markedly,Alex!
Such a cool fish room. What size tanks were the mormyrids in? I want to try that fish one more time. His are obviously thriving. It looks like he only has one in a tank.
Indeed it is! Very simple actually. Theres lots of hours being records on a project called fishsounds.org that wants to use AI to decode possible linguistic features of fish
hey Alex, I've been in the countryside for a month now and I've collected some wood which I plan to use for aquascaping, I found soke beautiful branched tulasi wood, I was wondering if it's safe for my tank , I have neos and bladder snails of course, I will disinfect the wood by boiling it but the wood does have a scent and it's leaves (tulsi leaves) are a very common Indian herb that's used for medication so I was wondering if that herbal property of tulasi could cause harm or stress to my tank inhabitants thank you ❤
My fish and shrimp keep dying and I can’t seem to figure out why. I witnessed one die today and it seems like he went out with swim bladder issue, and he kept trying to come to the top to blow a bubble. He then just kind of drowned and struggled to swim and just died on the spot.
Hmmm thats odd. He may have gill issues in his abdomen, they dont breath through their mouth, but they can get "flukes" or bacteria on them that can suffocate them. Look into doing a quick salt dip online theres instructions
@@Fishtory went to the store. Apparently even the store workers and other customers have similar problems after buying new fish like I did. I think the problem is that I didn’t quarantine this time. The fish ended up getting some sort of bacteria infection or disease so I treated it. Thanks for the help though!
So most of these fish are only available through collecting but for the avg person with financial limitations is there any good places ro buy fish from that deal in wild caught fish over seas and some fo this rare stuff I'd love to try and get something not in the hobby yet and try breeding it for the hobby
Dans fish (code: alex)... aquaticarts.com (discount code: fishtory15)... redfishbluefish.shop and the wet spot tropical fish. Those are the places i shop and also where i know the owners whom import or exoort rare and interesting species in an ethical way
Could you double-check the species name on that epiplatys? I can't find that species name and the photo you used for that looks like an epiplatys dageti Monroviae. And I could be way off and it's just a species that I'm not familiar with.
You are correct. The Epiplatys that I got in Benin are both bifasciatus and dageti. Couldn't see dageti in video but Alex inserted a dageti stock photo.
Yeah i took a guess it was one of them from a photo of a Benin Epiplatys dageti someone else collected... i know there are several chin colors and so forth, but didnt know which to show so people could see the closest thing besides the actual colored down female fish in the tank
@@Fishtory i enjoy watching your videos learning alot from u but i think every time i do a water change i am deleting all the auwfuchs that are in the water whats the best thing i should do to let my micro organism in the aqurium generate the populatiin thrive .. i see u dont like to do watrr change but i am always mind blowing about water change myself
Jelly of all those African fish. Would be a dream to be able to collect there
Fish room tours never fail to bring delight.
Love to hear it! Thanks... youtube hasnt been alerting most my subs so im happy some of you guys saw it! Thanks for stopping by. Cheers
My 8 year old and I are in love with the long “oxymoron” fish (my Latin is subpar). He thinks “It looks like a seahorse!” What an awesome fish room.
Its crazy how many fish that I've never seen on youtube in one video. Love the video Alex, keep up with the banger content
He definitely has an excellent fishroom thanks for sharing Alex! Looking forward to part 2 😁😊

Truely blew my mind, each tank full of amazing fish, with each tank outdoing the last

Yeah he is one of the many people i consider a mentor and reference for any info i need on african or north american fish for sure!
I just watched this video. Alex did a very good job editing and narration. Thanks for visiting!

Yes! So cool. These were a close look a like actually. But they're super similar and school just as well. One of the best schooling fish ive seen

Glad you enjoyed it
Imagine being a fish, and you get named after a dude who got his family name from catching fish. I would feel personally attacked for sure.
Beautiful tanks. Surprised was not subscribed to you channel , always watch. I am subscribed now! Always great content👍
Thanks for the sub! Welcome to the community! Have a great week!

Amazing tanks!!
This is what dreams are made of right here. 🤤 🙌🙌🙌
Right?
Nice video as always! I have a question i would like to ask you. Why does the lack of CO2 triggers algae in our aquariums?
Keep up the cool videos!
Co2 helps plants eat the nutrients that algae will bloom with...so co2 speeds the cleaning of your water column...starving the algae :)
Such a cool fish room. What size tanks were the mormyrids in? I want to try that fish one more time. His are obviously thriving. It looks like he only has one in a tank.
Oh wow ❤ ❤ speechless
Wait so mormyrids communicate with electrical signals, speakers turn electrical signals into sound. Would it be possible to mic them up?
*Mic up the mormyrids that is.

We do. My phone got stollen with the original part 2 on it

Do you see all the babies in the first tank? He sounds like Greg Sage.
I'd definitely put both of them on the same level of skill and experience, for sure!

How do i get my deep subtrated and cycled aquarium to have so much auwfuchs thriving in the water colum like ken does?
Time and lots of diversity... plants, hardscape and fish from other mature or wild tanks

Soooooo was there never a part 2????

Im surprised he doesn’t have any leaves to feed them like you encourage people to do?
These scientific names of species is to much for my brain cell
