You are right, No dog NEEDS an e collar. The exact same fact is that nobody needs a smart phone with wireless communication either. You can hand write letters and go to the post office and mail the letters and get your communication across or make a call with a dial up phone plugged in to the wall if you want to. I think using technology helps make communication better but thats ok if you do not. The fact of the matter is Its choice. A persons choice of how effective and fast and reliable they want the training to be . We are just here to educate and promote good training for those who choose to use technology instead of manual only or limited methods thats all. Common sense right? Sadly Common sense is not common practice.
I tell my clients that they COULD teach their kid to play basketball while wearing snow boots, but why would you? Everyone who has a problem with the e-collar has either never used one, or did it wrong. If you associate the e-collar with pain or fear, that comes from lack of use or poor usage.
