New Zwift Ramp Test - Will I already manage my 5.0 W/KG FTP Goal

  • After spending 10 days cycling in the south of France around Nice, riding over 1100km with over 16.000m of elevation mostly in endurance or tempo pace I was curious to see the effect of such high volume on my FTP in the ramp test. I hardly did any short hard efforts or VO2 max intervals during the trip. Mostly rode with mates, steady efforts and long rides - averaging around 4h riding every day.
    I do like the Zwift ramp test as it is not so stressfull on the body and you can repeat it regularly without needing a longer recovery or a day off afterwards.
    My dream FTP goal is to hit 5W/Kg, my last test result before the vacation was an FTP of 337 which equates to 4.5 W/Kg so still a way to go. I usually do a lot of indoor riding and racing in Winter which should help me getting it up more. Let's see what is the status as of today, this test was definitely hard but i think i wasn't fully fresh so think there is more in the tank.

    Wow it is incredible how your legs are turning fast... Nearly 100 rpm at 460 Watts !

      Trying to survive, I usually race at around 92-95 cadence in triathlon

    Did you use smart watch to track HR in Zwift?
    I used a chest strap and feel uncomfortable and decide to switch to a smart watch or armband but don't know it is good enough

      In general it’s good enough, less accurate in short sprints but in normal longer efforts it works fine

    Ramp test is ok but in my experience it reflects better 5min power than 1h. Actually I am more impressed with your 3h@280w 😅

      Yes, the 5min max in the ramp test is pretty accurate to your actual 5min max but the calculated FTP from the final minute (75% of it) is a pretty good estimate of the FTP (at least works for me)

      Not yet, maybe end of the winter after my Zwift racing season
