Finally! A perfect video. Well laid out to the point. Like other videos I have seen you did not skip over the important parts because you assumed that we knew what we were doing like you did. I personally am sick of watching ads and boring ass intros to then be forced to skip another video in search of something like this. I know you probably won’t appreciate my comment as much as I appreciate you, but really, thank you so much. You connected perfectly.
This was amazing,iv not been on zwift before and thinking of buying a zwift bike but didn't know what you can do on it,this was really informative and it's made my mind up so thanks 😀
Glad you brought up the difference between using a dumb trainer vice a smart trainer. I'm looking at a Wahoo Core with an 11 speed cassette. It's going to be fun.
Great info and timely as I’ve just bought a second hand smart trainer. The only thing I didn’t see was connecting to a TV. I guess I have to use the screen share option on my iPad.
Glad you enjoyed the video! You wont regret the turbo trainer. It takes a little getting used to but once you are up and running, it's a winner. oh, and that FTP test is waiting for you 😁
Great video. Well explained. I use Zwift with the Tax Neo Bike, recently doing mostly workouts. I don’t need the map nor the list of Zwifters on the right of the screen. Is there a way to disable that? Thanks!
Thanks Jourdain, had a little chuckle at FTP test is fun 😂. Hitting some big numbers /HR in your footage 💪💪...... Thought I was quite experienced in Zwift but even I learnt a few things from watching this, especially the functionality of the companion app during a workout. 👌👍
Hey Scott, thanks for the kind words. Good to hear the video was helpful in some way, shape or form. Numbers aren't too bad at the moment. Hopefully after the 12 week plan is complete I'll make some progress. Either way, I'm enjoying the structure.
I have a few questions, how big is the difference between an 800$ and a 3000$ bike in zwift and does it make sense to buy a more expensive bike? And also the difference between a road bike and a gravel bike, how is it all felt in zwift?
For Zwift the bike quality really doesn't matter... the main thing is that it's the right size and fit for you. If I had to start from scratch and build a zwift setup I'd get a second hand bike form ebay and a smart Turbo trainer. 👍🏽 - Again, not too much difference on the grave vs road, but quite a few grave bikes have 1 chainring at the front so a few less gears. This won't matter on Erg mode but it will on sim mode. 👍🏽
I wanted your advice on connecting devices to zwift. I have an Elite Suito T smart trainer (Early Christmas Gift). I also have rally power meter pedals. I know the smart trainer can do power, cadence and it has algorithms for speed. I saw advice online to use the more accurate power option, which will be the pedals instead of the trainer . I tried to connect the pedals and it does connect for cadence and power, while still using the suito as a controllable trainer while in zwift. The challenge that I am having is that the pedals stay connected but stop generating readings after a while. When using the suito for all power and cadence sources I have no issues. I believe the issue is either the low battery on the pedals or the distance from my laptop to the pedals ( a few feet) . I could be also be doing something wrong. I know there is a difference between the power readings from the pedals and the suito. Do you see any huge disadvantage to just using the suito for all readings and not the power pedals. Just looking for your thoughts on this. Thanks
Is there any sound in the Zwift app or is it just video? If there's no sound, does if feel like you're riding in a vaccum? Forgive my ignorance.. I've never tried any of these apps and I'm on the fence trying to sort out getting educated on them. Thanks!
Yea, there is in-game sound. Just noises here and there. It's nothing crazy though, it's not trying to replicate the sound of riding outdoors. I normally have music to be honest 👍🏽
Very good video thanks. Thinking of joining Zwift by getting a hub one, however there is a lot of advice about trainers but so little about monitors. What is the best way to view your workout. Surely laptop is too small, so if I get a monitor I assume can just run through the laptop. Also what stands can you set the monitor up as I don’t have a desk in my garden building?
I used to think about having an elaborate setup but now I simply perch my laptop somewhere and use that. To be honest, after a while having a way to watch a series or YT etc is more important because looking at the virtual world for hours and hours get a little boring
Nice one, enjoyed that. My one query would be heart rate "Which doesn't need explaining". Err, I'm afraid it does for me! How is Zwift detecting my heart rate? Surely I need to buy and strap a monitor on?
Correct, you need to by a HRM (Hear Rate Monitor). Then Zwift can connect to the HRM. There are plenty on the market... from cheap to expensive. On Zwift they normally a battering from sweat so do look at reviews. 👍🏽
@@JourdainColeman Thank you mate! I'm all set up now, although I haven't got the HRM yet. Got the Van Rysell 100 from Decathlon and have completed my first workout 👌
Thank you , really very informative. I just bought a Wahoo kicker. I already have Garmin edge 530. Any use of the bike computer for the indoor run with Zwift or any other riding app ?
Thank your for the in depth video and to the point! What is the cheapest and quality smart trainer that is compatible with Zwift? Wahoo seems quite pricey but definitely a quality.
There's the Tacx Flow and the Sportneer Smart Trainer, which are both about $360. The sportneer has way higher wattage and gradiants, as well as pretty accurate power when NOT in the ERG mode. The tacx is presumably more accurate in ERG mode, as well as presumably more reliable.
Good answer from Justin For the smart trainer I do like the Kickr core. I know it's expensive but having used it for over a year I would highly recommend (coming form someone who is always looking for the best bang for buck). The Sarris H3 is also good as an entry level but I prefer the Kickr Core. My next video coming out is a 1 year review of the kickr so that may help you
Thanks for the video. I have a Mtb hardtail Nukeproof Scout 290. It utilizes a x1 drivetrain on a 32T chainring, will top end/speed gearing be an issue?
That is my question as well. I can't keep up in a group ride or race I am the riding a mountain bike as well. I am thinking that is because of the gearing.
To be honest, I would do one before because the Zwift plans are all based on your FTP. Truth be told, I think the Zwift plans are very difficult and hard to keep up with (mainly because you can't skip days). So don't be scared to put your FTP down a little when doing the plan to make sure that you can 1. keep up with the plan and 2. enjoy the process and not feel knackered everyday. I done the Zwift build me up plan, and while I got super fit in that time frame. By the end of it I was pretty burnt out.

No. this is not true. Zwift scrapped this idéa when they figured out they could sell a proprietary, non configurable dedicated controller for a load of money instead of allowing people to do what they want with the things they allready had.
