Philo is so smooth.. when throwing disc or talking about the ones he throws. Well spoken guy and a great ambassador for disc golf.
I agree, so many of the In the bags are either bad sound from mic or a bad speaker.

They did do the shots in action but the pictures of the discs they did not. I feel that the In the bags seem to be very similar for 2017. They do have at the end every disc they throw and the plastic types like before but they start with putters for the most part and go shortest to longest exception is one person she goes putters then into fairway drivers then to distance drivers and then midrange. ?

I'm late here, but I'm starting to realize that only having to throw 4-5 speeds is way easier than trying to find 10 on a really mixed-up bag.

Happy to say I was one of the lucky few who were able to get a new commemorative Philo albatross destroyers from the innova shop. Feels good to help support this guy, he's the epitome of a class act disc golfer in my opinion. Thank you for this video, compliments the albatross video I've watched 30 times already.

I love, love, love the simplicity. Comes to show you that the player matters more than the disc and that being super familiar with your bag is key. As a newbie who was addicted to buying up all sorts of discs I can admire this guys approach. This is the way to go, at least once you have an idea as to what type of discs suit you. Very nice!
Good point about having only 5 molds in varying stages of stability. I find I play better if I get to really know my discs, instead of getting a new disc every month thinking it will somehow change my game. Well done, sir!

good video, I do agree that making your bag more simple is a good idea. I carry to many discs and have tried to clean it up. I have 8 different types I believe.

i have that exact same blue with red stamp destroyer in 166 and its the most over stable one out of the 6 i carry so i guess it was just that batch for some reason.
I would agree, I prefer the Destroyer in Champion plastic, lasts longer and with a dome to it oe is a 167 gram and the other is a tie dye like one in 170 gram Heavier one is for windy days or for when I am really trying to hook shot the disc.
Wow. Nearly identical bags he and I. Only difference is I prefer KC plastic in my Rocs and KC aviars. I tend to favor star plastic in my firebirds too. I've been throwing the DD trespass in place of my destroyers lately. Very happy with the consistency of the tresspass. Seems to fly like a destroyer should right out of the box without having to beat it up. I do have a meaty destroyer on hand for wind though...;-)
For full confidence shots, what do you do for traction control? I want to start playing, looking for some free swag disks. Anyone wanna help?

Pretty much the perfect bag. No need for 10 different molds.
I agree I have 8 molds with 2 specialty discs one a Dragon for water shots. Not a big bag but I have 15 discs in a larger mid sized strap bag that I put some clip on backpack straps to make it a true Backpack bag for use getting to some holes on the 2 local courses that are further away.
Such a nice and simple bag. Complete opposite to mine with 20 discs and 18 molds!!!
Whatever works, I do consider the different types of a disc like the Onteiro ROC to be a different disc then the standard ROC and the like.
My bag is nearly the same way, maybe one mold a DX Stingray could take out as a non tailwind takes the disc no matter the wind speed . I have a bit more in disc molds but then the one is a left only disc and a water disc and a uphill, downhill putter for bigger and steeper hills as my newer putters in a softer plastic but not floppy like the one uphill and downhill putter he has now. The others have a second disc to them often a bad weather version in Star or another brands Star like plastic to complement the Hard Champion or Champion like plastic. exception is my main mold putter have 3 in a soft but not floppy plastic, a soft R-Pro like plastic then an old hard and stiff one in the baseline plastic. I think I have just 10 molds but could make that down to 9 now getting rid of the DX Stingrays as non tailwind ruins the flight path for the discs.
Have 10 molds in bag still, if you count the Champion Shark 3 176 grams both being a different mold from the Star and old Pro plastic Shark both 174 grams. I do as the Champion Shark 3 has such a different rim then the Shark.

Jake Rice How so? The same mold is more consistent. Rather than having to throw three different molds for either the same shot, or slight variations of the same shot.

I'd like to ask the pros what they use for short shots that are a near 90 degree turn left with a low ceiling. I've noticed a lot of pros don't have a truly Overstable mid or putter (justice, drone, Buzzz os, pig, harp, etc.) Anyone know?
if it's that sharp you can just use a firebird
+Michael Thielen What it's short? I feel like the fb would skip too much. But then again none of the holes these guys play are going to be shorter than 200 ft.
if it's really really short you can just forehand roller a putter. If it's a 90 degree bend with a long fairway afterwards I would just firebird cause a stable mid or putter would not skip or fade strong enough. A 3 would be good enough on a hole like that though, unless there is some alternate route.

Nice to see somebody that does not use the Grip bag. Lots of pros from brands that do not make a backpack bag use a grip bag if they do not use the older hanging backpack bags that often the company makes.

I like that Philo uses a putter that is easy to find, so many pros use the KC Aviars or the Mc Beth Aviars that are just a tiny bit harder to find or they use the rare big bead Aviars.
Casey smith how are KC aviars hard to find? My disc shop I go to always has them. And as for the mcpro aviars innova still has some in stock on their website and they've been there for awhile lol
I putt with KC Pro Whales... But I can't get em anymore.. may just switch to DX whale.. but the whales I have are a long way from needing replaced..

what makes discs from the same mold fly differently?
As slightly different blends of slightly different plastics with slightly different additives/colors cool under slightly different conditions... the final shape is a slightly different. Especially with high-speed drivers very subtle changes in domeyness and "parting line height" (approx. the height of the edge of the disc when lying flat) can cause noticeable differences in the flight characteristics.
In Philo's case, the discs fly differently because of the amount of wear. Typically discs become more understable the more they're beat in.
The SpinTV Also true. I guess I was responding to Philo explicitly talking about how this particular run of light Destroyers was overstable for some reason. Destroyers are all over the place even discounting wear.
+FizzyP I agree. Innova is KNOWN for inconsistencies in their molds. Doesn't discourage me from throwing primarily Innova. Destroyers and Wraiths are the most erratic IME. With the latter being the most. Just makes it a little rougher at first deciding which spot in your destroyer lineup that new one is going to fill. Firebirds though I will say are incredibly consistent. Champ, star, take your pick.
The wider the rim and the more popular it is, the more inconsistencies can occur. That's pretty much true for any disc manufacturer, but Destroyers are probably one of the most popular driver molds today.
Where can I get those marbled Dx Roc's?
What Philo has is just a product of random chance, compared to swirly star discs which are intentional. It happens when they change colors of plastic during a run. They're not sold separately by Innova to my knowledge.
Sometimes sellers online do though, and label them as "transitional" - so try searching that term.

I dont agree with mold minimalisation but Philo sure has mastered it ^^ Interesting ITB.
It's a great idea for beginners and intermediate players IMO.
I think it's a good idea once you know what molds work best for you. It doesn't have to be as small as 5 molds, but 6-8 is reasonable. Minimizing molds makes the discs feel more consistent in your hand.
What's wrong with mold minimalism? A lot of people actually do not know how to throw a variety of different shots. They try to compensate by throwing a bunch of discs but it doesn't work out very well. You cannot hit every line by picking a different disc and throwing it on the same 10 deg of hyzer. If you're Feldberg I'm sure you can get away with throwing a slightly different disc for every shot. But for 99.9% of the DG population I'm they'd probably be better off throwing fewer discs on more lines. My consistency is improved by throwing a few drivers 9 times each in a round than 18 different discs one time each. If I was a touring pro who did nothing but practice that might be different. But, many touring pros still shoot for fewer molds. I'm curious what your reasoning is.
+FizzyP I agree with you. Last night at league, I had 16 drives off the tee out of 18 that were Destroyers. 13 of those 16 belonged to 2 particular Destroyers in my bag. Minimize discs means it's easier to make decisions.
It also minimites your options.

Not many, you are most likely to see more swedish/Norwegian Disc golfers then Black.

3x Pro Orc (I'm not a huge arm, these work better for me than destroyers)
On occasion I may add a Firebird / Thunderbird, or Sidewinder / Roadrunner if windy, or I need rollers. And two very light (floaters) blizzard Destroyers for long shots over water.

tjo Off axis torque. It's when the disc doesn't come out of your hands cleanly and flutters, which causes the disc to become less stable and turn more than intended. It also creates more drag, decreasing overall distance. If you're flipping destroyers too easily that might be what's going on.

Does the amount of spin on the disc have a lot to do with the stability too?
He thought you were saying (assuming you throw RHBH) that they go right which is turn. If it's diving left then that that's fade. Oh the confusion :)

I don't like discs that can fly differently with a few tree hits, the more consistent the better.
I love the DX Roc but I can't understand how he plays them in the woods. I've hit a tree and had a completely different disc afterward more than a few times. With his power I'm sure it's even worse. I guess he has enough Rocs that if one takes a wicked hit he can just use others for the rest of the round?
I assume there's something about the DX Roc that works best for him.
Your theory is that he throws discs that work for him? By golly I think you're onto something there. You've found the secret and cracked this disc golf thing wide open!
