I just got this lens for my ZV-E1 and am loving it so far. It's shockingly good esp. considering how old it is, feels just as good/fast as the 55 1.8 Zeiss. This makes the camera so much lighter/smaller and easier to carry around.
Great video. Second comment: I have used the Tamron 35mm, Samyang 35mm (on Sony a7riii), and I still go back to the Zeiss lens. It just has better colors, micro contrast, clarity and fun to use. Nowadays you can get a good quality used one for about $300. So all of a sudden it's very competitive with the Tamron, Samyang and others. I like it about the same as the new Sony 40mm G lens. But now used, the Zeiss is about 1/2 that price.
Great review. After carrying around heavy lenses and equipment for years I'm intrigued by going with such a small light lens. I found one at a good price and I think I'm gonna get it.
Good choice! mine has been with me since the original A7R 5+ years ago, it’s great to have around when you’re tired of heavy stuff. a side piece that’s always there for you 😄
I only have the 35’s you mentioned, I would say wide open, I think the ZA is better, but it doesn’t improve much stopping down, will definitely start comparing 35’s soon, finishing up on 24’s, the sigma f2 comparisons almost done. gotta do 35GM, 1.8’s, sigma 35, etc, along with the tamron 35-150 real soon. I can work on the za35 and Samyang first since I still have it, but I’m about 3 videos behind and trying to catch up.
I've had all three lenses that you're speaking of and went back to the Zeiss 35mm 2.8 sony lens for its micro-contrast and beautiful color rendition. I found the Samyang cheaply made and just not sure how long it would last (plus there are a lot of bad copies out there). The sony 40mm f2.5 was a nice lens, but not for almost 700 with tax. I got my Zeiss used, in mint condition for about 350. They are easy to find for that price. If the 40mm and 35mm Zeiss were the same price, it would honestly be a hard choice, but I would still lean toward the Zeiss, even though I could see someone going the other direction and certainly have good reasons to do so.
@@jeremychee3821 I hear that's a really good lens! I think there are a lot of great choices for the 35mm. I did have the Sony 35mm f1.4 GM lens, but just too expensive when a cheaper lens will serve my uses just fine.
what deals. The 1.8 is a better lens all around, it's up to you if you really want the size. over time, I still have the 2.8 za, it's small, it's simple, and gets the job done (and I have a 1.4 from brand deal). I don't need, even want anymore 35's, but if I could only have one, probably the 1.8. No focus breathing, close focus, those are big points for that lens.
At $200 the Zeiss, 35mm, 2.8, T*, Sonnar seems like good value for the money. Where did you see that deal? Hopefully, you were able to cash in on that opportunity.
@@Cthames123 well i did not go for it eventually. No regrets because i found that 35mm is not the focal length for me, i prefer using my tamron 28-75 g2 and helios 55 in some occasions.
I really care about whether this has that Zeiss color and 3d pop. My batis simply look better than my g masters, don't care about that modern clinical sharpness
from my experience with batis, macro planars, and contax zeiss, I would lean more on the yes side. the color profile seems to be in that direction. I still have an older and magnificent contax zeiss lens, however I dont use it often.

The best description I have ever heard - like the strangers car when my wife parks next to it. Lol. good work
Sony 35 2.8 Zeiss great. The photos are attractive

many LOLs and things learned. great vid ty.
Great lens. I bought it again.
Great to hear! 2.8 is not super sexy but it does work well.
@@CharlieVN I got it in "like new condition," from a camera shop for $350.00
Супер чекаю на такий )
hi, is it focus motor working quietly? on zeiss ?
yes, it's quiet
Hey man, little help please😅 I have a6400 (no ibis) and about to get this lens (no oss). What can I expect from handheld video?
it's going to be shaky, probably better off with something with OSS.
for image quality, would you recommend sony 35mm f2.8 vs sony 40mm f2.5 vs samyang 35mm f1.8? Thanks!!

@@CharlieVN thanks man, looking forward!! have heard good things about the 40mm but no real good reviews yet

You and me both! They closed down for so long, I forget what they taste like, I kid, super spicy all the way
I found one like that used mint for 200$ and one used sony 35 f1.8 for 440$, which one should i get?
