Thanks so much for this video! I had a surprise visitor of a maple seedling in one of my garden pots and decided I'd try my hand at bonsai. I know it's still got a couple years of developing to do before I can shape it, but it's nice to get a knowledge base while I wait!
Fantastic video thank you. Can you tell me which month you pruned this one back? I'm also wondering if you bought the original tree or grew it yourself? I ask because I have quite a mature acer in my garden that I don't really like as it's not been pruned and is overgrown. I'd happily have the space back if it's possible to dig out and develop it into a bonsai. Thank you again. Moray (Bedfordshire, England)
Se puede realizar este tipo de trabajo sobre un olivo? Muchísimas Gracias por Su respuesta a futuro. Saludos cordiales desde Buenos Aires, Argentina, Mária.
I have a similar cultivar as you worked on. My question is in Spring can I take scion cuttings from this cultivar and graft them on a sugar maple which has huge leaves but a great Shohin size nabari? Great demo thanks
Björn mentioned if you prune a deciduous during fall, it can activate the dormant buds. Do you have a different experience with maples? *I love the website, amazing work.

Is there already an update of this video ? I admire all the bonsai videos and infos .TFS and happy gardening 🍃
We will publish the big (5 year) update today! So stay tuned: ruclips.net/video/SH9SIeJ8eiA/видео.html
This maple bonsai look great and healthy. At Indonesia still expensive . The seller still import it, and thier cultivation from seeds still limited .
Yes agree...the top stem, the result from cutting need that process ... for the next look more natural.
Agree again 45 degres for wiring
Yipee.....Sometimes I wish we can fast forward 5-10 years. I'm sure this will be a nice little tree in a few years.
I hope so too! Should come along nicely in 2 more years already!
Dont you spoil dormant buds pulling with your hands?? I prefer scissors, slower but safer..... Thanks for sharing, a great development. Cheers!!!
It's better to cut precision,be careful, patient,,don't need to want to be fast, sort 1 by 1 ,reduce risk🤔
You are right, doing leaf by leaf with scissors is better - but in this case it didnt matter much as we were pruning and wiring the tree anyway.
looking forward to next update on this tree
Will keep you posted Tim! Next video in about a year from now!
Very nice bonsai
Very nice maple
Excellent training video!
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for the update. Is there a part 3 coming soon?
Yes, soon!
I was hoping you would show how you got the main cutting.
Thanks for sharing

The plant you see was purchased right before the video was made and we filmed last fall.
bonsai yang keren.
Gracias por compartir.
Amazing bonsai
Great video and nice tree.
But you didn’t carry it over the bridge at the beginning 😂
I did! Just not on video ;-) Haha!
@@bonsaiempire lol. Keep up the great work 🙏
And the same would apply for red maple, regardless of difference in variety?
What are you referring to exactly? The combination of all techniques applied? Mostly, yes.
nice bonsai my friend 👍👍
Thanks for visiting
Good proces...step by step.... 10:22
Did you dig up the trunk? Or cut it down? Or grow it?
We bought the tree - but it was container grown to a large plant to speed up the growth

I’ve heard for maples aluminum wire is recommended instead of copper. Is that just an aesthetic choice?
Are there any concerns with copper?
Aluminum is a little softer, which helps on the fragile branches and bark of the maple. And its easier to apply :)
Half of my bonsai Japanese Mable tree looks dead. I pruned and other half doing well. How I can bring it back to life ? It’s in my lawn

Em rất thích dòng cây này ở Việt Nam em không có
Lets the roots penetrate the wild ground, maybe the size of branches will balances faster.
why are you not using syngenta?
Mantap👍
Maple is my favourite,, but it cant adapted in Indonesia,,
Do you need to water on winter?
Yes, the maple, in dormancy, still needs some water.
Good
You must see bonsai Indonesia processing
How many days we keep the wiring in the tree sir
check every day. Maples grow quick
@@jordanellis5793 very true the do! I wired a couple branches on my maple recently but coiled so barely touching and it still got tasty scaring 😆
It depends on how fast it grows - in this case I removed the wire about 2 months into the growing season.
@@bonsaiempire thanks for reply me sir
Nicebonsai

*I love the website, amazing work.
That is exactly what happens - the buds will start to grow in early spring!
👍👍👍
in Indonesia the price is very expensive
👍❤️❤️
You talked all about the tree but thought you would start with the roots and the container and soil.
👍👌🙂
Thanks Bruce!

"wire should be 1/3 to 1/2 thickness of rhw branch you're wiring." - continues to wire with wire that is the same thickness as the branch.....
Cheating right off the bat. A real bonsai must never be planted in the ground to grow it bigger fast.
Care to explain your point?
