Joe Louis, a name eternally held in the highest regard. Regardless of a person’s age, religion or race, in his time he was beloved by all. The ‘Brown Bomber’ reshaped the world, and his tragic legacy is inscribed in American history.
I love your videos, I first learned who Sonny Liston was through your channel. amazing tributes to exceptional fighters who have been lost in history. Thank you
...
Also, the background music in your videos is very well chosen like in your Joe Frazier and George Foreman videos, Can you link them in the description?
Thare are several things that this documentary didn't mention. No fault to rainy day boxing. His greatness was just to much for any one video.
After boxing, Joe Louis tried to play pro golf but black people weren't allowed so he made some phone calls and changed golf forever. There is no tiger woods with Joe Louis.
During the great depression he gave all of his earnings away. (Likely saved many lives).
Joe Louis helped Jackie Robinson and many others get a better role in the military. Through this, he became friends with Jackie Robinson and inspired/gave him the courage. To become the first black baseball player.
Joe Louis befriended Sonny Liston and tried to help him fix his reputation.
Louis was always nice and respectful to Muhammad Ali despite Ali constantly berating Louis image in public.
Joe Louis lost a great deal of friends and family throughout his life. His dad was put into a mental institution wich Joe himself would be put into in his late life. Joe Louis left his original home/plantation of sorts he left his Friends who were likely killed do to racial tension in that area. And many more.
Joe inspired almost every black sports legend after him.
One thing I did notice about Joe Louis.
Most of the time when he knocked somebody out, they weren't getting up at ten, or twenty, or thirty. Check out the tape of what he did to James Braddock and Max Baer. He hit Max bears brother, buddy bear, so hard that he spun him in a complete circle.
Buddy was 6-6 and 260.
He was beloved by all, except the US government
Name of the song in the beggining of the video?
Joe Louis is the real Captain America.
Amen 🙏
Captain America is based on this great man rip joe louis
Exactly
I agree
You have to be a modern day Buddha to give yourself to a country that doesn't treat you equally. I wouldn't do it
Absolutely disgusting how the US government treated Joe! What a fighter, what a man. RIP champ. The Brown bomber will live on forever!
the way he was "treated" was that he was required to pay taxes like everyone else, including people who actually went and fought in Europe and Asia instead of doing goodwill tours. He wasn't victimized by the government, he was victimized by his accountants.
@@johnjamele hats off to you for sticking up for the US government John
@@johnjamelebootlicker
@@johnjamele - You cant be more wrong, soldiers who went to war took the money and paid the taxes, Joe Louis was charged taxes on the money he donated.
@@johnjamele Morale is as effective a combat multiplier as anything those 'goodwill tours' served a vital purpose.
“I can show you how to box. I can teach you every technique and trick I know, but I can never make you a fighter. That comes from inside, and it's something no one else can ever give
you”. - Joe Louis
What a good man and fighter! Unbelievable the way he was treated by the US Government. He served his country honorably and donated money to the troops only to get the shaft. RIP Mr. Joe Louis Barrow.
It's not unbelievable that's Amerikkka
@@PaulieWalnuts_lost_shoe damn Fam
@@lamonthunt8711Don't let the crookedness of the government reflect the people, asshoIe. The country isn't just the government. Besides it was mainly the IRS.
The closest thing to perfection the heavyweight division has ever produced.
He did everything for America but America did nothing for him.
The American dream
That's why I've always understood why Ali didn't go to war. After seeing what patriotism got Joe I don't blame him
Joe Louis wouldn't agree with that statement, as per his own words. The government (mainly the IRS) gave him the shaft and that was horrible of them, as Joe Louis was an incredibly generous man who served his country and did everything he could for the people, but ffs don't lump the 180,000,000 people of that time in the same category as the IRS, or the whole government for that matter.
Sure it did. It broke him. No good deed goes unpunished... I wonder if Jimmy Braddock got his 10% on those fights? Smdh...
Nothing? They destroyed his life ffs
One of the greatest punchers of all time. Speed, Power, Accuracy & Technique. In a league with very few.
You could argue he’s the greatest puncher of all time.
@@H.K.5 Absolutely. I do think there were a few so great, they belong in a category together.
@@H.K.5 He is the International Boxing Organization determined it by scientific studies and research and you can look it up and see what they said.
Best technical boxer in history.
his, hopkins and holyfield's are definitely the few boxers who has the most worth it basic-revolved style to learn.
Joe Louis. The boxing hero the world did not deserve. RIP Champ
What a POWERFUL documentary! That's about all I can muster up the strength to say at the moment after such an inspiring and tragic story. I love that you don't leave the tragedies out the world needs to know. This should be certified gold.
My dad was a young white man (from the deep south) during Louis's Heyday. He always spoke of Louis beating Max Schmeling and him serving his country. Joe Louis was his favorite fighter. He and I always spoke of the outcome if he and Mike Tyson fought!
What do you and your dad think about the outcome? I give it to Joe.
Louis is the most accurate puncher I’ve ever seen, he would land entire combinations to the tip of his opponent’s chin. He was an incredible fighter that deserves to be just as well known as Ali and Tyson. Amazing video, as always.
So much faster than his victims, err contemporaries.
And his cross also evaporates your chin, with his uncanny precision, power, timing soeed and others, it's like someone maxed out their stars in the game but they never wore any items or accessories, just the stats.
Back stabbed by a nation whom owed him a great deal. A man who forewent and donated an immense amount of money for his country only for that country to constrain him for the rest of his life
Not the country, the government.
That is true and those donations should have been used on his Taxes too, when you fill out those papers it ask for that, unless they wanted proof and he didn't have any, sad when a person have know knowledge of that, it seems like those groups like the NAACP would have set up something and as for black American to send one dollar to help pay for this man back Taxes it would have been more than a million dollars because it was more than that many black Americans in the country, they did nothing, he was on his own for that or maybe they did I don't really know.
I have been reading so much about Joe Louis. It angers me about how he was treated. He was a good man who should have gotten a better ending. Regardless, he did not give up and helped many people. He was the closest person to a real life superhero. RIP, Brown Bomber, a tragic hero.
Great fighter, great champion, but an even greater human being 👊🏻
Absolutely 💯
Joe Louis is a true American icon. He was the best boxer of his era and what the American government did to him after his donation towards the war effort was a disgrace. I especially liked his friendship with Max Schmeling, a guy who considered Joe as a brother, despite hitler trying to come between them. God bless you Joe Louis.
Never ever put your country first before you. Always put yourself first.
great grandpa got the chance to see him box when Louis was in the army. Said he was the fastest and greatest boxer he had ever seen.
Truly the greatest of all time ❤️
Thank you Joe Louis
I’ve visited his grave at Arlington. A very deserved resting place.
Phenomenal documentary as always! As a side note, Joe Louis had the most picture perfect old school cross in history. You want to learn how to throw the right hand? Watch Louis
That's who I studied when I boxed amateur,Joe Louis. Larry Holmes and Julian Jackson.
Joe Louis donated his ENTIRE purse from two fights for the war efforts, plus he enlisted in the Military during the World War. In thanks, the Government hounded him until his dying days.
I have even that much MORE RESPECT for Muhammad Ali after seeing this!
Greatest Heavyweight of all time.
Top 2 definitely.
@@MaccaveliPLNaw he’s number one, and i dare anybody to use that “who he fought” argument ima shatter that 💩 into Reese pieces.
@@bossplayermfs5972 I got him behind Ali, but I'm not mad at putting him at 1.
@@MaccaveliPL Louis was better than Ali in my opinion but I think calling him a Top 2 Heavyweight is fair. I’d place Sam Langford above Louis tbh.
The most modest also
My daddy till his dying day said joe louis was the greatest fighter ever
The Brown Bomber is my most favorite boxer in History.
Fantastic video and understandable that everything isn't included here regarding the great man but you really did a good job here, as it touches our hearts, Rainy Day Boxing.
:)
Arguably the greatest in History, Joe Louis does go down as an American Hero who was also one heck of a good man.
Spread his story far and wide.
HOO-YAH & God Bless his Soul and Memory.
_"Seeing Joe work at a casino. It's like seeing the President washing dishes."_ -Frank Sinatra.
_"I didn't beat Joe Louis! I beat his shadow."_ -Rocky Marciano.
_"I used to carry his kitbag, just so I could be near him."_ -Sugar Ray Robinson.
_"When Joe hits you.. it's like a bomb going off. Inside your head!"_ -Max Baer.
Best heavyweight ever.
Another phenomenal video and great tribute. I appreciate all of your videos, thank you very much!, we are all happy to watch your videos keep it up!.
Thank you for the kind words, I really appreciate them! I'm glad you're enjoying them and I hope to keep them coming!
@@RainyDayBoxing you should do a video about John l gardener a now forgotten British boxer who was A very good boxer
Greatest Boxer of all time
He’s certainly up there, not #1 tho.
agreed@@ST4YDOWN
@@ST4YDOWN he did the most out of any boxer not the most skilled but top 1 in a impact on america
I was waiting patiently for you to do a Joe Louis video as he is my favorite fighter ever and I just knew you would do him justice. Great Video as always Rainey Day.
The great boxing historian Bert sugar , who saw most of the good boxing champions from the 50s through the 2000s... He put Joe Louis #1 and Ali #2.
I will use the number of title defenses and the number of victories over good opponents to his advantage.
To even get his title shot, he had to go through a number of ex-champions.
Joe Walcott was an amazing fighter. Walcott at 40 plus years old, nearly knocked out Rocky Marciano.
Joe Lewis never lost to someone twice. His adjustments were insane.
RDB, what a powerful and heartbreaking piece. Your writing has brought me to tears yet again. I love, love, love your work.
Brown Bomber - simply the best!! ✌👊
Wow. This is fantastic. I had no idea he was treated so horribly. I would love an even more in depth look!
The Brown Bomber, Nice one Rainy Day Boxing
Joe Louise was honorable to a fault. It should also be nothed that the IRS had financially tortured Joe so much that Max Schmelling paid for Joe's funeral.
Not only Max Schmeling but Frank Sinatra and a few others as well.
Easily the best boxing channel on RUclips.
You're too kind, I appreciate the support!
It's horrible how the IRS even went after his kids' trust fund. It should have criminal for them to do that to him, especially since the money was donated to the war effort.
R.I.P Joe Louis,,, I stay about 15 minutes from the little town he was born in,, in Alabama he had a Statue there!!
Now man come on! Another banger and an instant classic! Keep it up!
Definitely more to come! 🥊
thank you so much for these beautiful inspiring documentaries. its like watching an amzing movie EVERYTIME
WWWWHHHHOOOOOOO WE'VE BEEN BLESSED WITH ANOTHER BIO FOILKS
Unbelievable video 🔥. What a great tribute to Joe 👍🏻
Joe Louis is the Real Black 🐈⬛🖤 Panther. Chicago Illinois loves this content 😎👍🏾
I think we can all picture that old clip of Homer Simpson Booing the IRS... :( Also, shame on multiple presidents and representatives, who had the chance to pardon this hero!
Your videos are pure poetry. Great work.

TRUE LEGEND PERIOD
Joe Louis lived a life of service, but those he served bit him for it. It honestly pisses me off. He was your hero’s hero, he inspired a domino of greats, and yet the world conspired against him. What a damn shame
Great Documentary I love this channel 👏🏾
Please do Floyd Patterson next i feel like besides his losses to Liston he’s not really appreciated or talked about I’d love a documentary on one of Cus’s original students and a great boxer.
Floyd Patterson is next up for the longer length documentaries!
Cleveland Williams next!
The first to regain the heavyweight title,1952 Olympic gold medal at middleweight. His birthday was January 4th. Floyd Patterson is so underrated. Record: 55-8 40 KO.
Infuriates me how our nation did him so dirty.
I love these videos man keep them coming ❤

It's not fair what happened to Joe
RIP joe louis
Joe Louis is a National Treasure, that is why he and his lovely wife are at Arlington. An Eternal Hero.
i recently found out im very distantly related to joe louis as hes my cousins god father. As a boxer, I think of that as a great honor.
Even after all the incredible selfless acts he did of course the irs still comes after him smh
I've said it before, but it must be said again, never has there been a GREATER WARRIOR or FINER HUMAN BEING than the GREAT JOE LOUIS, & modern day people would do well to take a page out of his book & look to Joe as an example of what it means to be a GREAT HUMAN BEING.👍👍👍
Wow what a great fighter I always heard of him but finally got to see such Cool videos of him , he was Accurate Puncher 👌👏👏👏👏💯 thanks for Sharing ✊️💯 LL
The greatest heavyweight champion
The greatest Heavyweight and champion of all time
No he wasn't.
pretty sure thats not and why would that help me sleep stop using silly quotes
The dudes he fought were trash compared to 70s-90s which means no he wasnt the best or close to it
Amazing
Excellent video I run a Joe Louis fan page and this is one of the best videos I've seen on him. Would you mind if I used some of your found phootage thanka
Talk about a real black eye for this nation. I’m disgusted(sadly not surprised) that my country would pull that kind of shit on anyone, much less one who had contributed and devoted so much to it. Sadly, very par for the course though for our country to use up and spit out those who no longer serve its purposes.
Thank you Rainy Day Boxing for the brilliantly made history lesson.
Rainy Day Boxing Is Feeding Us Good. Keep Cooking Sensei🍝🥗🍜
A true champion and hero. Rip Joe Louis ✝️
The greatest champion of any sport
Max Schmeling was NOT the first European heavyweight world champion as claimed at 5:10
That honor goes to Bob Fitzsimmons, world champ from March 17, 1897 to June 9, 1899.
This documentary is another gem by rainy day. Hope we get another soon. A suggestion is maybe Roberto Duran
What happened to Joe Louis is the main reason why I always root for Floyd Mayweather Jr. Money is right. Go get your dough! And I am glad Money Mayweather got his. Wonderful example. And keep in mind, if the government and the corporate overlord masters didn't care about Joe Louis, then they definitely don't care about me and most of us. We must have that Money Mayweather mentality because we all got to go get ours since you can easily end up like Joe Louis. I rather end up like Floyd Mayweather Jr. I don't want to be called hero or Captain America. I must be called rich, or well off, or wealthy, or millionaire, or financially successful!!!
My grandfather’s hero a man that he served with in WW2 and meant so much to millions of BP in the “Great Depression” era and to me by far the greatest heavyweight boxer of all times. Rest in power to the only and Joseph Louis Barrow 🐐 #BrownBomber #KOKing #Goat 🙏🏽👑💪🏽💪🏽✊🏽.
Thank you for making this video. My grandpa loved him and I loved Joe Louis. I wish he didn’t get hosed by the government like he did. It hurts. Always will.
My favourite fighter, nobody can replicate him
Joe Louis,he threw the most precise punches ever. The footage doesn't do him justice, light years ahead of 95 percent of his opponents. He could be a dominant champion today,no cruiserweight could beat him. He would be a heavyweight champion today. Usyk isn't too much bigger than Louis.
Doggone shame that Joe Louis and Max Schmelling had more respect for each other than their countries gave them.
It was his government, the people respected him.
THE GOAT OF BOXING TO ME!
Joe Louis was the greatest fighter p4p that ever lived.
No
Hope you make a doc on sugar ray next good video keep going bro
Detroit Bad Boy
Great video bro, keep them up🙌🏼.Can we please get something similar about Marvin Hagler?
ONE OF THE GREATEST REST IN PEACE CHAMP. PEOPLE LOVED HIM.
Prime vs Prime...no fix in lol. Louis beats Ali 😉
💯
A hero an American
Joe Louis > Muhammad Ali
Thank you sir 🤜🇺🇦🤛
Put Joe's face on Mount Rushmore!
When you hear talk of the Brewster Old Timers they are talking about Joe Louis. The old timers all hung out in the Brewster Projects. So did Diana Ross. And there were always kids coming in to chat with the old timers. Old Timers like Joe and al blue lewis would whisper in your teen ear stuff like : now kid you take a short hop in and move the guy elbow and bury your head in his chest. Then listen to him breathing. How he breathing will tell you all you need to know. And then the old timer walks away. And you stand there thinking you just heard the voice of God. And all the old timers did was play checkers and drink and eat and talk boxing. I miss Joe and all the old timers who embodied greatness.
When it comes to greats Sam Langford is top of the list. Heavyweights duck him so much Sam was named begger Sam. What did Jack dempsey among others say about Sam.
When Joe fought Rocky he was 37 but back then because not knowing about weight training diet he was more like 45 also because the fights were more brutal
For donating his two checks for the war effort as a token of thanks he gets the IRS taking his money till the day he died. One of the most disgusting acts of injustice in the public’s eye that I’ve ever seen. It kinda makes you not want to do any favors for anyone. But the fact is that’s the IRS and not the people of the world who do have a heart and common sense of justice no matter what the freakin Medea says.
Thank you for being thoughtful enough to separate the IRS from the rest of society. It's a shame what happened to Joe Louis.
