Rocksteady did such a GREAT job with the horror elements in these games. Scarecrow's nightmares, the Killer Croc chase, the Solomon Grundy easter egg, the Man-Bat jumpscare etc. But what always got me and still does whenever I replay Arkham Asylum, is those damn lunatics who jump at you lol. They're like Outlast inmates.
@@graveyardsprincess i just finished my replay of asylum and i was so traumatized from the lunatics i genuinely played 90% of the game in detective mode
I KNOW! I am currently playing this game and I haven’t turned off detective mode for one mfing second! Bonus Tip- if you punch them right away you can one hit them with a ground takedown
Yeah both were scary as hell when I was a kid, but the Killer Croc part was the only one I actually dreaded to go through each time I played the game. I basically had to physically force myself to do it. Arkham Asylum was also the first realistic looking game I played lmao, and to have Arkham Asylum as the first realistic looking game to play when you’re a kid was on the verge of abuse lmao. And because of that, still to this day, I’m a little creeped out by doing this mission. I definitely wouldn’t find it as scary if I had played the game for the first time today and done subsequent playthroughs of the game. However I’m so glad I did play it back then because it’s high up on my all time favorite games list!
Literally every scene with Killer Croc is ripped straight out of a horror movie. “I’ve got your scent Batman! I will hunt you down.” “A toy collar won’t keep me from killing you. I’ll rip you apart. Eat your bones.”
FYI Batmans mouth doesn't move when he is talking to himself because it's meant to be more of a mental monologue, aka the player is heading Batmans thought process in real time. : )
The graphics, the soundtrack, the silent hill inspired inmates appearences, the terryfying hilusinations, the jumpscares, trapped inside a mental asylum full of these inmates Yep I'd say this is a horror game where you can acually fight back
Lol I remember a long time ago, we went to his kid's house, his sister was playing this part sweating bullets because of Croc's voice and she was pale as a ghost. When she got the game over she got traumatized and covered her hair on her face and stared crying saying I could never be Batman. Meanwhile, her dad is such a troll and was laughing at his daughter's reaction but his wife scolded him lol. To this day she remembers that even as an adult, she's like 28 now. Her dad purposely set her up because he didn't like his kids using his xbox when he got them a Nintendo Wii lol 😂 🤷🏾♂️.
4:38 As someone who's played this game as a 10 year old kid, hell yeah this game is a good intro as a whole to horror games AND the game does a great job at keeping it subtle by not just throwing you horror encounters in the face all the time yet the game's atmosphere keeps you feeling tense all the same. The thing that scared me the most in this game as a kid, even downright stopped me from progressing ahead in the game wasn't Scarecrow's nightmares or Killer croc's boss fight; it was the Lunatics. Their reveal in itself is quite dramatic, the game has been progressing at a steady pace so far, you've only met the twisted but somewhat sane inmates. However, you wouldn't think that the asylum also harboured truly deranged lunatics as well. The cutscene where they're released was pretty anxiety inducing, kudos to that great atmosphere again. The sheer unpredictability of the Lunatics to not be able to be detected by detective mode in addition to their jumpscares (sound included) terrified the living daylights out of me, paused me from playing any further and it wasn't until I was older that I went back to replay this masterpiece.
I got this game from my cousin for Christmas when I was like 11 or 12 and the back cover art alone made me too scared to play the game for like 2 years. I’m glad I finally did because it was instantly one of my favourite games of all time.
Can’t believe dude hasn’t got wayyyy more subs and I mean no disrespect, deserves to be in the millions. Started watching when Jedi Survivor came out and I’ve binged loads of his content since. Elite.
I hope you finish this game as well as the others, some of the best superhero gaming content you will experience, especially City. I’m glad I stumbled upon this channel
Bro, I remember playing the scarecrow levels, and they actually gave me the weirdest nightmares. For example, I was actually playing The Game in my nightmares. But the dialogue was different. Characters went off script, and Scarecrow would always say the weirdest things. Sometimes, the level design would be different, and blah blah blah, you get what I'm saying. Those were some good time, lol
I wish they did more of this with some superhero games. Spiderman gone to the raft. Everythings gone out of control. Spiderman doesn't want to alert the Military because of his no killing rule to. So he tries to put them back in order himself. Sandman can be like Clayface, Mysterio can be like Scarecrow, Green Goblin is obviously the Joker, Lizard being Killer Croc and Rhino being Bane.
Spiderman was toi busy collecting backpacks and forcing us to ride bikes for 30 minutes while forcing to use Mary Jane which no one asked for. Aroham series will always be superior.
I remember being so scared during the killer croc fight that I couldn’t even finish it. Wasn’t until a few years later that I actually conquered it and beat the game.
This game it was around 2009 i was 9 yrs old and i got scared when the scarecrow face gets out of that thing that used to be scarry for me and the crockboy
I love this game like it’s my own child. I’ve already played it so many times, and it’s a game I’m gonna be revisiting even 20 years from now. Absolute masterpiece👌🏻👏🏻
2:08 100% The Evil Within 1 vibes right there. I think its fascinating how this game resembles EW1 to me for some reasons, graphics, many scenarios are exactly the same, mental hospital and crazy dudes all around the place. I wouldnt say i got scared in this game like many people say, but thats probably because i played already as adult and played Evil Within 1 and 2 before, but i can totally understand the dark feeling the game has and its really amazing for a super hero game. The morgue scene instantly made me remember EW2 as well.
When I was 10 years old the Scarecrow part traumatized me every time I played it and I couldn’t finish it I stopped on his boss part because I was scared 😂
Yeah I just got done replaying it after like a decade and when I was younger I don't remember the game being as disturbing as it really is, the lunatics running around jumpscaring you, ominous killer croc noises, the wheelchairs flipped on their side with a spinning wheel and blood coming from them hinting to jason todd being tortured seconds before you entered the room, the arkham speaker tune occasionally getting more and more distorted and jokers subtitles like covering half of your screen. This game was obviously designed to be a sort of horror game, they had to tone it down with arkham city.
During the nightmare hallucination with kid Bruce, notice how the final confrontation with Scarecrow happened right after he remembered Gordon’s words and kindness to him all those years ago. Like Gordon gave him the strength to resist and fight back. 🥲
Michael: WHY ARE TELL ME TO GO BACK DOWN TOWN IF I JUST LEFT DOWNTOWN?! 🙄😡 Bridgette: It was funny! 😅 AGP: Have a nice trip! 😂 Michael: It's gonna rain downtown, It looks like shit down there. 😡

playing it at 6 years old haunts me even now especially the croc fight

18:36 well, his mouth wasn’t moving because we hear what he is thinking, every game/show/game should do the same
Yes
Here’s what scared me most to least
1.killer croc
2.warden sharps shiny head
3.maniacs
4.scarecrow
5.bane running at you

I replay this every October. I think City and Knight are better games but Asylum has a creepy atmosphere that newer games cant match

I'm going out as this version of Scarecrow for Halloween. The very character that gave me nightmares when I was younger.
It hasn't even begun to be a horror game yet
Hehehehehehe. Dont forget the middle stick
that screen glitch part? When my friend tried asylum for the first time he thought the game crashed his pc and he deleted the game. 😂
The best way to play this game is to play it at 3:00 Am with the lights out and with headphones.Really enhances the horror atmosphere

100% disagree. His attempts at "comedy" take away from the drama of the games he plays and just come across as obnoxious.
imagine having no sense of humor 💀@@TheWolfman112
Its terrifying especially if you dont have detective mode on and lunatics jumpscare you
Scarecrow is a 10/10 in this game

batman telling bane "this time, i break you!" is still my favorite comic reference

Croc used to have me stuck on his sewer fight because i was to scared and didnt know he was gonna jump out of the water
Iirc you can prevent him from jumping out of the water by zip lining the whole mission.
Bane could tear the Batmobile apart, he knew he wouldn’t die
I revisit this game once every couple of years and it’s still a banger
lol just wait til he gets to crocs part
I thought so too, until i had that last part in Knight. Then i realized that i as Batman was the real horror.
Batman Arkham VR is the greatest first person horror game I've seen.
This playthrough is getting crazy
Yeah, I was terrified of this game when I was little!
I remember playing this as a 12 yearsold or something and every time the scsrecrow appears I was like "holy shit, that's enough for today" xd
I just take a 1-2 hour break once the looneys are on the island
