- We are at Fatahillah Square to ask random foreign tourists what they really think of Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia. After seeing this episode you get a rough idea of what it is like and if it is worth visiting. I think it is!

Most important thing you need to buy when you arrive in jakarta is emoney card, you can use the card to commute around the city by using MRT metro, LRT train, commuter line train, and also transjakarta bus. Also secondary you need grab or gojek apps to support you to the bus stop or train station with unwalkable distance. But if you stay near station or bus stop you can go anywhere you want as long as inside jakarta city. You can buy emoney card in any drug store or mart such as alfamart or indomaret or family mart or lawson etc
Good advice:) thanks for sharing this 🙏
And also with the gojek and grab apps you guys can order food😁
Additional info i just found that emoney card also available in klook with airport pick up service. And i forgot that you can also use this card to buy something in indomaret or vending machine 😁

@@vanessawilliam9570true, well, indonesia offers different point of view of living, but for living is a big no, unless you somehow do business with 100 million rupiah a month. there are many asian countries better out there
To me, Jakarta is actually in my top 10 favourite cities that I have visited with KL, Bangkok, Singapore, Rome, Istanbul, Barcelona, Dubai, Lisbon and Doha with Tokyo, Athens, Seville and Cairo close by
That’s a nice list you’ve got there :) thanks for sharing your thoughts

In 2013, I spent 6 months in Indonesia, four of which was in Jakarta to attend a local university. Every evening after class, I came home, started packing and telling myself that I would leave the next day. That how much I hated Jakarta. At the end of the 6th month, I did not want to leave…. The main reason was the people. Indonesians are very welcoming and hospitable. The moment they knew I was not a local, they were super nice and extremely supportive. Couldn’t ask for more. I still keep going back to Indonesia, and loving it:)
Thanks for sharing 🥰 I’m happy you didn’t leave and gave it time to let it grow on you 😊😁
I am Indonesian but lived in USA for 10 years or so. The first 2 months I returned to Jakarta, I hated it. Now I find Jakarta quite pleasant, the only exceptions are air pollution, traffic (which I avoided by going out only during non peak hours), and the weather is not friendly for walking and minimal walking infrastructures.
They key word here: you are not local. If you are local, you won't get the same treatment.
In average, Indonesian are not nice people
You can see by the attitude of the minimarket cashier
Or when you bump into them, no sorry will be coming out from their mouth

In reality, Indonesia is a Muslim-majority country, not as scary as western media generally think and report. Indonesia is peaceful, and its people are friendly 😊🙏
Not scary indeed :) We really feel the love in Indonesia 🙏
In fact, you can say Indonesia is more tolerant than Netherlands. Imagine if there's an anti-christian party in Indonesian parliament that advocates christians to get out of Indonesia, we will be branded as a terror state by western media. Sadly, that's what happen in Netherlands, Geert Wilders want muslims to get out of Netherlands.
Really? I think u r a bit subjective..my fren 😅
Shame on Geert Wilders saying all those things 😤 I don’t think people who voted for him know exactly what terrible things he have said in the past 😕
@@Chai_Travelbut i really why people voted him.. I mean, a lot of immigrants are welcome in Europe, and yes not all of them want to appreciate the culture there and many also commit violations and yes of course with "pressure" from.... (you know what I mean 😅) they were given "light" sentences, I can understand why many of Europe voted for right-wing leaders. Please, don't think I'm racist. I try to understand them.
Loved the Pakistani lady. Bubbly, easy going and totally relaxed. Great range of questions and answers in this series of interviews. Pollution and heat the issues if any, but generally the standard in that part of the world especially in the big capital cities and understandable with the large population and therefore huge numbers of car and moreso motorcycles on the road emitting excessive exhaust fumes that would not be particularly healthy for those exposed to it. Great work champ and thanks for a fabulous Indonesian series. Good luck with the ongoing search for the family roots. Cheers champ 🤩

First time visited on my birthday 10months ago, I would say Jakarta still has a lot to improve for solo tourist travelers to easily go around. Met a lot of locals who'd helped me along the way. My fave is Sarinah for traditional Indonesian related what have you's... 😍
Thanks for leaving this message and I definitely understand what you’re saying there mate :) I wonder if the city will the the same in the next 20years as they’re working hard to “move” the capital city. Cheers!
Solo is not as big a city as Jakarta, because Jakarta is currently still the country's capital, while Solo is more of a traditional city which has a small kingdom as a form of cultural empowerment, the name of the kingdom is the Surakarta Hadiningrat Sultanate, which is a fragment of the Islamic Mataram kingdom, part of which is also in Yogyakarta Sultanate Kingdom

I truly enjoy Jakarta and find it easy to relate to them because we virtually speak the same language as Malaysians. I can readily find food that I like. The only drawback is that Jakarta is too large and can be challenging to navigate, particularly around rush hour.
Yes, itu sangat besar, bahasa Indonesia dan bahasa Melayu ada sedikit persamaan, jadi jika orang Indonesia bertemu orang mslasyia, Brunei or Filipina sepertinya tidak sulit dalam berkomunikasi😇

Jakarta means a few things to me. I visited the city few times from 1982 to 1985 when my late dad was a diplomat. My late mom passed away in Jakarta in early 1983 and her body was brought back for her burial in her hometown, Kuantan. About a year after dad, my late dad got married to a local Indonesian lady from Jakarta and she already became a Malaysian since living in KL and PJ for more than 35 years. How do you like Jakarta?

Hi, as a local Indonesian...i have little bit advice, Jakarta it is very pack crowded and always busy, for some people who prefer little bit calm, quite and greenery, you can go to suburb area (can go by car or KRL train). To BSD or Cibubur or if you wanna go by car, you can go by car thru highway (but please notice the traffic before you go or you will get into 'highway parking lot' and you could stuck for hours) going to puncak on working days always better than weekends, happy journey guys :)
Thanks for the tips! That’s very useful information 🤗 have a beautiful day
Hi mate. I like Jakarta. I've been visiting it every year for the past 3 years, even during Corona. I'm coming again this September. It's cheap to live and eat there especially as I now know where to stay, people are friendly and cute with they giggle at themselves cos they don't understand you. But Jakarta for an Asian city is extremely well organised and walkable compared to most of Indonesia! Do recommend, but man traffic is terrible in most of Indonesia like in Thailand, just try to walk/use transport when possible trust me, they are awesome people and very respectful of others so treat them with respect!

Why are people complaining about Indonesians not speaking English well? English is not our language; we have absolutely no obligation to speak it in our own country. THEY should try to learn Indonesian when visiting our country, just as much as we are expected to speak their language when we go to their country.
And one of the tourists complaining about the language is a Frenchman. Really? A Frenchman complaining about Indonesians not speaking English? And when we go to France, the French people will be able to speak English to us? Pfffffttt.
No one is complaining about it :) I hope this video didn’t offend anyone 🙏
😂
Couldn't agree more with you Bro!
💯 agree with your argument, i know English is international language but not everyone speaks English because every nation has it own stance such as like French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Argentinian, Brazilian on average they don't speak English, so people who want to come other nation they must speak the language of that nation at least the basic one.
No one says about obligation for Indonesians to speak English, nor is anyone compelling you to do so. The interview focuses on tourists' perspectives regarding convenience, particularly in communication and language barriers, and how these factors impact their overall experience in the country. Given that English is a globally accepted lingua franca, tourists are unlikely to invest unnecessary time and effort in learning the local language for a short visit. Learning the language may make more sense for an extended stay.
However, comparing Indonesia to countries like France, Japan, or South Korea reveals that these nations are not inherently English-language-friendly destinations. Yet, tourists often find it easier to navigate in these first-world countries, despite not predominantly using English. This ease results from well-developed and English-friendly transportation systems, clear signage, and a structured infrastructure tailored for tourists. Ultimately, it boils down to the tourists' perception of how navigable a country is. While not speaking English isn't a problem, it certainly enhances the experience if you do.

You are crazy if you want to live in Jakarta.
Jakarta is not nice at all. Even I hate living in Jakarta. The people are not nice at all. Most motorists use this big special muffler which they call brong muffler.
This muffler will shoot black smokes to the face of the people who happen to be behind the motor.

I prefer Temanggung more than Jakarta. I will see you again by the end of January 2024 in sha Allah. I love Indonesia
Oh, wow…Temanggung is indeed a beautiful region. Love the archaeological sites there.
@@yukiaditya7352I was in Temanggung for 3 weeks, went to Bali for 3 days then I headed back to Jakarta on 19 February and left the Indonesia on 21 February 2024. I took 23 hours on the bus from Temanggung to Bali, also I took 25 hours from Bali to Jakarta on the bus

As Jakartan. When people talk about pollution in jakarta. i be like what pollution ? I actually cant feel it. Maybe I just numb since I born and gree up here
Haha maybe. The air pollution is pretty bad some days 😅 but still it’s a great city please do be offended by me saying this. I’m more worried about the health hazards for the people who live is this polluted air for a long time 🙏
You are generation end game
Just look at the sky
@fiansonline2498 Mexico City is bad too.
As a Jakartan i can only smile seeing them talk about air pollution in Jakarta
Jakarta bukan kota wisata, hanya untuk ekonomi. Tapi bagian yang lain adalah surga wisata
Hi Chai, I think the subtitle is broken around 06:00 mark. It repeated itself.
Thanks! I’ll have a look at it ASAP 😱 you’re the best for mentioning it 🙏🤗
I’ve just changed it! Thanks again 🏆🙏
As a Jakarta's citizen i want to say="I don't care"😅
Enough to comment 😉
Hi Chai...I am curious if you need a video editor for your channel to improve your edits and post more frequently maybe! I emailed you but you didn't reply. B.T.W. I love your content, hope you GROW much much faster:)

Okey :) Thanks you
3:55 Wow, I really love her. She really knows the real Jakarta with its underground music scene, the drinking culture, etc. She even knows that Indonesia is very different from Malaysia and Singapore, something that many foreigners and even some Indonesians are wrong about.
Dude, no offense but despite having some Indonesian blood in you, you’re still very biased and still have this white westerner tourists’ way of seeing Indonesia. It’s obvious that it’s still pegged in your mind that it is a strictly religious Muslim country and the only places where you can have fun are ones that cater to foreigners. You could learn a thing or two from the lady from Pakistan. 🇮🇩 🍻 🇵🇰
She’s great and No offense taken ;) I’m not the only one who’s learning here and I’m glad to share some of the knowledge I gain with everyone around the world 🙏
@@Chai_Travelglad that you are open to learning new things. Come back often, sit down and drink with regular people. Join harvest festivals, gamble at funerals, sing and dance at weddings. Maybe that women was secular Shia or Pakistani Christie. Nowonder she not the way sunni women wearing in public
@@kilantravels gamble at funeral?? what?
@@hazmanriess8949 thats what i was wondering but in all fairness, most muslims living in restrictive household tend to forget all rules when they step out of their home country. you can even see some middle easten women when they go to countries like this, tend to remove hijab and roam freely.
although indonesia is a muslim majority city, the fact that 80% of its teenagers (college student mostly) drink liquors are something that westerners doesn’t expect 😂

Dah sampai jakarta bro
Ya 🤩
Oh yeah the pollution. Even the Jakarta natives hate the pollution. I am thinking to move from Jakarta because of it.
Tips : If you fell really hot don't wear black, use a little portable fan to cool down, and maybe use umbrella to block the sun
Thanks for the tip 😃
Coba tanya orang yang sudah kerja di jakarta, harusnya dia lebib banyak cerita dan keluh kesah

Dude, Jakarta citizen is always do routine vacation out from jakarta to make them sane.
3:54 i like her, she was so real. And it's true Indonesia is not that strict and scary like people think when they hear Indonesia is the biggest muslim majority country. We do have our drinking culture with that intisari or OT anggur merah( local red wine) although not all people drink but pretty sure those Alcohol drinks was popular. You can be as liberal as you can in Indonesia as long as you also respect the Conservative. But remember don't drink in public !
That's great thanks for your input. Drinking in public is a no go indeed :) Cheers
as an indian who lived in indonesia for 6 years, i can say that you guys are more lenient in drinking culture than india.
Nice ! Not on top of my wishlist ;)
Thanks mate :) no worries! There are so many other places I’m sure you do have on your list ;) at least you’ve seen a bit of it now 😁 have a great weekend 🏆
Like we care... We do not want you so badly to visit Jakarta or Indonesia either... No thanks!
The worst thing about Jakarta is the motobikes on the sidewalks. I hope they regulate motobikes in the future. Sidewalks are for pedestrians!

In your opinion, does Jakarta still deserve to be the capital of Indonesia?
Deserves? Yes, I think even years after Nusantara becomes capital, Jakarta will be the greatest (just my little opinion/guess)
@@Chai_Travel Actually, this is a question for next year's election. There are three presidential candidates, Candidate number one does not support moving the new capital, number two does, number three is silent and does not answer. So I want to get answers from other people, whether Jakarta is still worthy of being the capital of Indonesia. Thank you for your answers
Maybe the move will be a forced one due to Jakarta being a sinking city with it estimated that one-third of the city could be submerged by 2050 @@maksumzaifudin5859
It is not about deserve or not dude, do you know Jakarta is sinking?? And the main reason also the government wants to the world reckon that Indoneia not only Java, but the spread of archipelago from Sabang (Sumatra) to Merauke (Papua). The new capital city is right in the middle of archipelago (Borneo/ Kalimantan), named NUSANTARA, the perfect representation of Indonesia’s various ethnics and its united old kingdoms in the past

i kinda find it funny how the pakstani woman sees women working labour jobs as something great and amazing when those women themselves would have loved if they worked in "posh" jobs or even didn't need to work at all and just be full time moms but unfortunately the economy doesn't allow that for a large percentage of the people.
"ow wow look at these children working in sweetshops rather than going to school, how amazing and freeing" is basically what she was saying.
I think that’s a pretty ugly way to look at something that is meant very beautiful.
@@Chai_Travel it's not ugly, if i wanted it to be ugly i would have said that her intent is malisious which i didn't, her lens of how she might see this as good and beautiful doesn't change the reality of what's going on.
nasically it's a look of privilage and btw pakstani women also work "blue collar" jobs it's jut not in the same ways as in indonesia.
so really she's looking at if from the prespective of someone privileged in the gulf countries i know this because i studied and lived with people like this. clearly i don't think that everybody is like her as i said i am among them but there are some people that want to portray something as good not based on reality but their own agendas.
do you disagree that many of the women working these jobs would have rather worked jobs that were less harder on their bodies?
@@PoeticSonicyou're delusional. She was talking about how independent women are in jakarta and indonesia in general compared to her country Pakistan, instead of child or women labour that you're complaining about. Ridiculous!
@@Irishb0y that was an ad hominem attack becuase you couldn't counter my claims. she did not talk about independace but the type of work the women do in each country in general.
one is blue collar while the other does white collar jobs. the amount of ignorace from privilage is crazy.
doing blue collar jobs isn't the girl boss thing you imagine it to be, a lot of these women are practically forced by the culture there to do these jobs, many of these women are used and abused to provide for their families basically taken as slaved of labour even animals after doing worked people are greatful for the work but the work these women do is never seen as enough and they are put down for not doing even more.
you might say well what are the men doing? exactly as i said it's not the girl boss move you think it is.
as for women in pakistan this women is a gulf brat that can't see infront of their nose, there are similar situations where a lot of women in pakistan have to do physical labor the difference is that it's not steeped into the culture and people are put off by it which means you need to be A LOT more shameless to use and abuse these women or genuinly deperate for work due to a bad situation.
but because of this women are more likely to get blue collar jobs which is easier on their bodies while men do the physical labour. wow what evil sexist pigs they are!
