Jakarta, Indonesia - In today's video we are going to visit a very modern and rich area in Jakarta. It's called SCBD, which stands for Sudirman Central Business District. High skyscrapers, modern and huge malls, hardly any street food stalls or street vendors - certainly a very big contrast to the areas of Jakarta, we have seen in my previous videos. I’m glad you actually mentioned how other content creators almost always have (____) surprised me or can’t believe this is (____) with their thumbnails with shocked faces or open mouths. I mean, were they expecting rice paddies all over the biggest cities in Southeast Asia? Don’t get me wrong, that’s their choice to go in that direction content wise but it gets tired when seemingly they all follow a template. That’s why I like Ken because he really gets to a know a city by going to super local places. It’s refreshing.

Explore another area: Mega Kuningan, EPICENTRUM Rasuna Said, Kemang (expatriat area), Blok.M (take MRT to Lebak Bulus and get off at ASEAN CSW station), Central Park @Podomoro City, GBK + Pelataran Urban Park (just opposite to SCBD), Pondok Indah, Ancol (pronounce: Aan Chowl), Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (take LRT from Dukuh Atas station to Harjamukti CIBUBUR, get off at Tamini Station where you can get on free bus to Taman Mini)...

My brother wife is Germany, and she love JCO donuts, everytimes they coming here to Indonesia they always take Jco donuts souvenir for her parents.
Jakarta is not only about the skyscrapers, slums area, traffic jam, etc, but there are also exotic islands at the north side called kepulauan seribu (thousand islands), this place is underrated and less foreigners btw. You can go there by speedboat from Kaliadem port or Marina Ancol

The hot tropical weather that make asean country always has a lot big malls. People can strolling around for shopping, playing in amusement park, eating, hang out, go to cinema etc cos of the AC weather.
ken , you must go to Pik 2 pancoran china town in north jakarta, go in the evening because more comfortable and nice in the evening, this area is big, so can go to area batavia pik n aloha pik. Jakarta is diverse so here you can see another vibes . maybe you can come to central park mall in the evening thats nice mall too.
I have visited Jakarta 3 times now with the recent visit a few months ago - great city, dynamic and manic traffic
Loved to see this part of Jakarta thru' your eyes, Ken. Yeah, it looks similar to BGC of The Philippines ...very modern, clean and well maintained. Yummy JCO donuts and beef soup at a very clean street food stall. Great that you are using lots of this Grab motorbike taxi as your transportation there...fast and convenient. Jco also has affiliated breadshop called Mako (used to be called breadtalk, same boss), mako bread also very tasty. Can find mako breads in many shopping malls.
you should go to southern part of Jakarta, like Blok M area, theres a hangout place called Mbloc, it's good to see where local youth hangout

From Padang West Sumatera, there is famous Nasi Padang with its must try icon : Beef Rendang ❤️
The 1st biggest Mall in Jakarta is Summarecon Mall Kelapa Gading, 150.000 m2, and the 2nd biggest is Grand Indonesia Mall, 140.000 m2 and the 3rd biggest is Mall Taman Anggrek 130.000 m2.
Nice video Ken. I really enjoyed your video. If you still in Jakarta, you can visit a culinary event called Festival Jajanan Bango. Its an annual event where you can find so many traditional foods from all over Indonesia. in Istora Senayan. Near the MRT station
I suggest you going to the colonial side of Jakarta in the North. There are Dutch styled buildings in a small town called Kota Tua and there’s a museum near this place called Taman Fatahillah

You can find the original authentic of empal gentong in Cirebon city, west Java.
You can visit there also to know about what there's in because it is the historic City that recommended you have to go

I agree with your comment about the 'modernization' of areas in Jakarta---and other cities. When you build new high rises, etc, you loose the flavor of the old city. That has happened in Bali and many other similar places which I believe is a great loss!! Great vid!

Try to visit to Mall Kelapa Gading, its much larger than Pacific Place Mall. Or Maybe visit Pondok Indah Mall or Grand Indonesia Mall, its also much larger than Pacific Place Mall.
Come to Melbourne and check out the “vintage” heritage train station as comparison Ken….

Ken. You were wrong when exit from the right. It's must be from the left and you directly come to SCBD and there is also escalator if you asked you can get the escalator.
U actually can get out of mrt fr the side of scbd, so u don' hv to walk far to find a bridge
the card can use in MRT, LRT, Transjakarta. you can top up deposit in the card.
Primary modes of transport in Jakarta are KRL and Transjakarta BRT....MRT and LRT are only for supporting roles
in this area.. you can find many foreign embassies, International financial offices, Indonesian stock exchange, six stars Hotel and Apartments. that's why you are not allowed to turn on the camera :-) but you can still face on camera toward your body...
7:47 There are a lot of expat workers from Indonesia in Saudi Arabia and also lots of Indonesian muslims going there for pilgrimage (Umrah or Hajj). That might explain why they're opening their shops there.

Maybe it can be said that JCO donuts are the best and most delicious donuts in Southeast Asia. I hope this donut can be found in Thailand, Vietnam and outside Southeast Asia. Both the texture and taste are very delicious and are famous in several flavors and very many variants. This is not a promotion but my personal experience in Southeast Asia.
We Thais are not donut fans. Only Dunkin Donuts is enough.

They actually do not allow people to take pictures around pacific place and JW marriott area because there was a suicide bombing incident by a terrorist group in that area. They way they planned the bombing was by taking pictures and videos around that area, that is why cameras are prohibited and the security is very tight

There's lift exist actually.
most of us are lazy to move, we call it "mager", so no escalator means additional workout. 😂😂😂
was a 'walking tourist' like ken too...only after 2/3 days of exploring their mrt/metro stations i found that these stations are vast & they have like multiple entry/exit ways.some exits/entries are equipped with downward/upward escalators only...so one has got to be familiar with each station if one is not good with stairways.

11:36 actually under the law streets vendor on side walk are ilegal in many city in Indonesia, the difference here is in SCBD they really apply the regulations with some exception, while in other district nobody care unless there's are SATPOL PP ( police ) raided those Streets vendor and usually after get raided the police take the cart and everything but then give it again to the vendors and then a day later the vendors came back again😂. Not to mention that most illegal vendors are paid money to allowed to selling, they paid money to gank in that area or ...you know.. to the people who raid them😂
In Thailand too but with beggars. It is illegal and most of them are not Thais. They are the illegal immigrants from our neighbors. Headache indeed.
