In this video, I sight in the CVA Scout 350 Legend using Winchester Soft Point 180 grain bullets. It was a great day to get out in the wild outdoors.

You get on paper at 25 and sight in at 100 yards. 1”-1 1/2” low at 25 will put you close to dead on @100. Try taking your hand off the barrel when shooting, you might not notice it but your pulling the barrel into the forearm and it’s making the rifle inconsistent. I have 3 scouts, 2 rifles and a pistol they all shoot 1” or less at 100 yards with Winchester 180 power points
Get your hand off the barrel, and forget the ballistic charts

Yes sir, thanks for watching! The video doesn't show everything. I learned that the correct zero at 25 yards is 3/4" low. That puts it at 1.5" high at 100 yards. But hey, that is why you shoot to learn exactly what the gun will and won't do.

... typical MOD (Minute Of Deer) rifle ... like my dad used to say "if you can hit an aluminum pie plate at 50 yds 2 out of 3 shots you're good to go for deer hunting"

I have that same rifle. Shot a few deer with it last year using the same Winchester ammo. It performed well on the deer. I could keep a 1.5-2 inch groups at 100. I hope to try a few different loads for it this season.
I'm going to shoot some 140 grains out of my mine real soon!
My CVA Scout in 6.5 averages .7-1” groups at 100 yards with 5 shots. 3 shot groups were .4-.6” at 100. Get your hand off the barrel when you shoot.
in illinois myself and recently traded for a new cva scout 350 to deerhunt with handloads. finding scope mount/rings to fit my short arms/eye relief has been a pain. why they couldn't put a regular picatinny rail on there, i don't know! handloads showing some progress so far with 9mm pisto; bullets, but have only shot a few out of it so far to experiment at 50 and 25. not going to get too serious until scope mounting/eye distance gets rectified for hunting purposes. hate to put additional money into it for a few days deerhunting, but considering aftermarket rail....not many choices and all relatively expensive for my taste. anyway, thanks for the video! your not the only one laying down the 12 gauge slug boomers for this fall!
Yes sir it can be a pain with mounting the scope. I'm trying a new ammunition soon. Hopefully I have better results. To be honest, I'm not happy the way the Winchester ammo performed. Thanks for watching!
Spend the $60-70 to get a Picatinny rail from Talley. The real problem is today's scopes are made with shorter tubes, which just about requires a rail on ANY gun. I have used both digital night vision and thermal on my Scout, as well as a prism scope. It gets the job done.
For deer hunting I don't see any issues with your ammo, rifle or shooting. Sometimes we get really overly striving for perfection due to the hundreds of videos we watch on RUclips and other places.
If i can keep my rounds in a paper plate at 100 yards , I'm ready to gunt Bambi lol.

My Scout V2 in 45-70 will stack the Hornady 325gr lever evolutions into an inch at 100yds consistently. It doesn't seem to like 405gr cast. I keep it sighted in 1" high at 100. It hits an inch or so low at 50. I have an old Weaver K1.5 mounted very low and it's been great so far, which is probably less that 4 boxes of ammo to date.

FYI winchester has a new copper round that has a transparent red polymer tip its ok but don’t get your hopes up too high it worked ok in my gun but you gotta try to get the lighter grns if you want to see good results and yes fed non typ whtl rounds are very good in the field
I have recently purchased some 160 grain all copper bullets from Bear Creek Ballistics. I'm excited to see how they perform. I will be making a video on that hopefully in the next couple of weeks Lord willing. Thanks for watching!

“What ballistics say” doesn’t matter. It’s a computer and it’s never going to be exact. It’s close, but never exact. You also said to not sight your gun in at 100 yards. Well, however far off you are at 25, you’ll be off by 4x that at 100. The gun and ammo you’re shooting is holding 1MOA groups, there’s nothing to be upset about here.

Scope above the bore distance matters.

It can be wherever it is most comfortable for you. The distance above the bore needs to be put into the balistic calculator to get good results. @@000martin2
Every rifle preforms different with each bullet. Gotta find one it likes is all.

Nice rifle attached to that big scope. Did you let the barrel cool off between shot strings? A hot barrel throws shots all over the place, regardless of the cartridge. Also, some rifles prefer certain brands of ammo and bullet weights over others. You just have to find out which ones your rifle is the most accurate with. Good luck !

It does really good with bear creek ballistics 140 grain.
My CVA scout I have 2 both drive tacks you got to find the bullet it likes best my shoots the Hornady Ftx 3/4 groups

Try the wichester 150 gr xp with the lead core or the winchester 160 gr power max bonded hollowpoint .

Keep your fingers off the barrel. You are interfering with the harmonics of the barrel. The barrel must settle on its own. Bad habit. I have three of these guns and they are extremely accurate.
...why would I wear my barrels out trying to shave a 1/4 MOA off my groups with a gun/ammo combo that shoots 2 MOA or less when the gun is being used to hunt animals with profiles as big as a highway billboard (bear, deer, moose, elk, sheep)?

Well it was a free floating barrel.
With 180 gr winchester super X, at 100 I'm dead on and 200 I'm 2 inches low.. that's shooting at a quarter size target. I have the same gun, my savage shoots exactly the same

Your gun only drops 2” at 200?
Yes...., but with the 140 grain bullets I now shoot, it drops -12" @ 275 yards.@@000martin2

Well... that factory ammo is doing about what you'd expect. Junk. It's designed for Kids at 50 yards or less. Fact.
