Everyone i know seems to be excited about Ghouls, Skaven and Cities going into 2024 so it looks like 4th editions leaning to an era of little scrabblers again after the big monster mashes. It would. be nice to see Mawtribes get a few more Gnoblar kits, maybe trappers and a hero to let us run a different list to underguts or gutbusters.

I made the bold choice to blow up my hobby collection at the end of last year and start fresh for 2024. So sold off all the stuff I don't use anymore and nuked the pile of shame away. And I have to be honest it feels great to not have all these piles of stuff overshadowing me anymore. Last year I also did the same, failed my goal to paint up a new army because I spread myself too thin across multiple projects doing bits for each.
One thing I like the most about starting anew is now I can stop joking about buying too much and not finishing it before the next but actually just have 1 kit in the to do pile at a time from now on. I know it's not something that effects everyone but it's personally liberating for myself personally. And I'm excited going into this new year from nothing and taking on a new direction for both collecting and actual army choices. 🙂
Looking forward to seeing your collections come together fellas! 😀

I still maintain that all the AoS channels should pick an AoS model next year and encourage everyone to vote for the same model, see if we can make a dent. :D
I did not vote this year, but I would not have voted for Tywin Lannister flanked by two jawas. Utinni!

This year, my "new army", a.k.a. one of the *many* armies in my backlog that I'm choosing to focus on right now is my Disciples of Tzeentch. It was *going* to be my Lumineth, but painting the details on my first 10 Wardens broke something inside of me. So I decided in order to get away from that detail-intensive army, I'd cleanse myself by changing to a *different* detail-intensive army.

Went all in on FEC for Xmas, got the launch box, one dawnbringer box, one old start collecting and one old generic warcry box to help shore-up the Ghouls to 2 units. Puts me over 2k already. I'll collect the rest of the heroes over the course of the year to fill out. Going heavy on flyers with a paint scheme based on the old Gargoyles cartoon series. I'm excited !

Vince I totally feel you about not feeling like you can take your Skaven army. when I started painting, i painted blood angels. that was only a few years a go, but even now I feel like I can't take most of those models to tournaments because they're SO MUCH UGLIER than anything else, and while I'm proud of the quality I produced at that time, I just don't feel like it represents me. While im not chasing the "best painted" award, I still want my army to represent my best work.

I "cheated" and started with Skaven in late fall. Working on a random ~2400points atm.
My paint scheme is synthwave, the unifying color is purple-ish skin and some teal/turquise somewhere on them and bright green eyes/warpstone glow. Clan Pestilense is bright yellow cloth (AP SP Maize yellow over white) with purple skin. Bases are "astrogratine" painted medium grey, shaded with brown shade, dead grass tufts and green crystals randomly distributed. Metals, wood etc are just "reality".
The goal with the army is to get something that feels like rave-rats in the wastelands high on warpglow.
I bought a pair of the 2022 Verminous host boxes, a vanguard box. Built them and start painting.

My plans this year….expanding on my iron jaws, tinkering with chaos warriors.
And also a lot of non GW stuff but in the fantasy genre like halflings for general fantasy gaming, Conan style fantasy minis and building some dungeon ‘monsters’ for some old school advanced heroquest.
I’ve been out of AoS ‘gaming’ for a while but with a new edition coming I’m going to hold off on starting anything new this year.

Great episode, I'm probably a little different in that I paint for the joy of painting, so often my pick will be down to 1) Do I like the models? 2) Do they allow me to challenge myself in a different way painting wise. Last year I did KO, purely to learn and get to grips with metallic paints, which I typically hate, I repainted my Ogors to try and push my techniques out further and I painted Ironjawz to try and use big broad highlights to really make colours burst, rather than gentle highlights.
Afterwards? I sold two of those armies and kept the Ogors because I love my lardy lads. People often ask why I buy, paint and sell armies and I tell them that the painting is the part I love. If I don't like the playstyle, I'll sell it on (often at a small loss, or close to RRP) so that it can go to a loving home and then think 'right, what's the next project'
I'm painting Cities to challenge myself on some of the most complicated models I've seen and have an entry to both Golden Demon and Armies on Parade? Will I keep them? No clue, I'll get a few games to see if I enjoy the playstyle and if not, then I'll happily sell them and move to the next project.

I have a lot of projects for this year. With the return of the Old World, 2 of them could go either way, AoS or ToW.
-CoS Araby (could double as HE)
-SBGL "Barrow Kings" (VC in, however they don't exist in the ToW timeline yet)
-Slaves to Darkness Eightfold Watcher themed cult.
-Specifically for ToW I would like to do a small focus on The Red Duke, as he is terrorizing around the forests until he takes over Mousillon).
So many projects and conversions I want to do, so little time, help!

Was curious where OBR would end up. I bought 4 FEC starter boxes in 2021 due to liking the lore and multiple recommendations as my first army. Didn't love it. Hell two are still unbuilt. Thought about bailing on the game, then saw the OBR book, liked the models, and gave it a whirl. I heard it was awful for a new player 2.0, but after watching book reviews seemed like a decent choice.
It's pretty easy now. High skill ceiling due to versatility, but somewhat high floor. Basically painted them in the same scheme as my necrons. Fun to play, and carrying a 2000 point army in a shoebox is convenient. My biggest issue was finding sufficient numbers of models, because somehow GW releases new books without ramping up production of kits.

Fortunately my hand has been forced, I've an event in February and I learned yesterday that new FEC (my first army) would not be legal. This year I'm not starting, but attempting to 'finish' some armies I have. For one of them that crocdrake that VInce hates will be a good addition (I love how stupid this mini looks, great VLoZD for my army).
I also might try to branch into Big Waagh from my Ironjawz. Gotta get some wins before BW is nerfed :D but I'll try to do it as cheaply as possible, mostly for tournaments before 4th ed drops.
For 4th ed I'm getting LRL ready! Still looking for an efficient and effective color scheme. Probably I'll spray them silver, do an transparent oil wash (didn't decide on color yet, but I like idea of violet shaded silver) with bright colored robes. I don't like idea of painting all of that trim so that's why I want to do a silver armor.

Going to do 800 pts of rebels for sw legion too.

    Hobby goals for 2022:
    1. Create a coalesced Seraphon army that proves Coalesced CAN win.
    2. Appear as a co-host (or at least a 5-minute guest) on Warhammer Weekly.

Do you think you could elevate your current speed painted armies to competition-level by just adding detail to them?

It would be tough, it's possible, but it would take a lot of work. THe delta is large.

I've spent the last 1-2 years downsizing. Went from 12 AoS armies to 6 and considering another cut. Starting a new army is a fun thing to do but physical space and how often I get to play is a big factor for me. 12 armies meant I went a couple years with some of them never seeing play. :(

I find StD pretty good when I play against them, but then again me and my friend (only really play AoS with him atm) don't use battle tactics or GHB rules, which I assume makes a massive difference to army viability.

Goals this year: build and paint up some Idoneth, OBR, Ironjawz, and StD models. Then, actually play a game, whether on TTS or in person. The last goal is to learn how to base better, using resin for water and posing for the miniatures. Things that would make me drop on a new army or newer models would be: a new Monster for Idoneth Deepkin, a flying model for OBR, a Fyreslayers new Monster or Cavalry, or new Khorne models.

Right now i'm on the no new army side. I know it won't last all year, but right now nothing grabs me. I will be expanding a few ranges thought and i might start a new game with Conquest.
New armies i couldn't say if any of those suggested i would start ( the new dark elves, goblin pirates, dark dwarves or whatever else was mentioned). A lot depends on model look and a possible theme i would want to play. My general rule is to only start new army with an updated book. Best chance to get new models and to see if any old ideas are still feasible. I would consider Hedonites with a new book if they made them less NPE. SBG again with a bit less NPE on summoning and maybe with a new Graveguard and black knight kit. I would consider DOK if we got more snake ladies. I was hoping for a dual kit of a more armored one with shield and scimitar with other option for a dual hand weapon type build. That way you can have snake ladies being anvil, blender, stronger hit/dmg, and ranged. Not sure if that would fit the whole DOK aesthetic, but that is what i want to see.
Playstyle is pretty important. I tried Kharadron and just couldn't get behind the army. If i wanted to just shoot everyone off the table i'd play 40k. However i will say there are times having a change of pace can be very fun. I tend to prefer the more slower forces that can take a hit and keep on going. Mortal Maggotkin with plenty of blightkings is one of my favorite. However i also really enjoy my all squig Gitz. Very fast with moon and can hit decently hard. Can die quickly and morale phase really hurts.
For now i just need to work on existing projects and try to get them done. One issue i'm having is the scheme for my Space marines. Not sure if it was the same with Tom's Khorne, but i'm having issues finding the right color on a 2 color scheme. I'd rather not settle for a mix as i'd rather stick for a out of the pot color. If i give up on this scheme i probably will not put them on the shelf though.

Im incapable of starting an army for any reason besides what models i want to paint. Bc i kniw I'm going to spend more time painting than anything else. And I've been playing WH for years and still have no idea what my preferred playstyle is supposed to be.

They seem to be adopting the same book strategy for TOW that they have for their other two pseudo historical narrative games - HH and Lord of the Rings. Both have the "Good Army Book" and "Evil Army Book" system.

My 2024 goals are to finish my Soulblight army (Nagash will be the last piece), complete my Flesh-Eater army with the newest kits, paint my Beasts of Chaos army (assembled in 2019 and never painted a single model) and start a Tomb Kings army... Looking at it seems much more than is humanly achievable in a single year, but hey, you aim to less, you obtain less...

I’m brand new to Warhammer and AoS. I am a long time D&D player (DM). I just signed up for AoS Stormbringer by Hachette. I get four issues once a month which includes info pages, models, paints etc. I like the Stormcast and the Orruks I have been receiving. I guess I will build these two armies to start with. Any advice?

At this point, since 4.0 comes out soon (this summer), just getting models together and painted is the right idea. Just getting your painting knowledge and practice in is going to be of huge value as you decide what army you ultiamtely want to focus on fully and having some amounts of those two forces painted not only helps you grow as a painter, but also sets you up with a potential army (SCE is never a bad army to have in the pocket).

Vince help. I picked slaneesh as this year's army, I wanna paint them as e-girl cow girl thirst traps (girls dressed as cows not ted lasso type). How hard do you think cow print is to paint for a bad painter? For context I've only painted ogors before this

That's a very specific paint scheme, it's not incredibly impossible, it will be challenging to sell, but it's possible. I have a few videos on animal patterns, so check those out.
