I love how it was a legitimate consideration for Seth whether to win the game or to continue destroying Tron lands. Never change that, Seth, never change that.
I've pondered on multiple occasions how Tron has avoided a banning over the years because I've never heard of anyone enjoying that it exists. It may not be the best deck simply because sometimes you just don't get your Tron lands and lose, but if Eggs had to go for being a nuisance (despite being a very fringe deck) then I'm not sure how the deck everyone seems to hate survives.
Pretty sure you could have won at 8:15 : -tap birds -sac them -play specialist, reanimate birds which untaps them -cord for blood artist Not that winning matters when you can blow up tron lands instead
I just hear "decksparado" parody of desperado by MTG Remy whenever I see a 4 piece combo. Luckily this one actually came together. Probably because it plays mostly good magic cards that feul a combo that has tutors and other ways to dig for.
a friend of mine made a modern Saffi deck a LONG time ago using crypt champion, and this reminds me of it a bit. looping Saffi and another creature for value is pretty sweet.
@@LuizOMenudo That is correct, it was one of the first decks I ever built. It was awesome! It made me very fond of abzan and the deck later morphed into a devoted druid combo list.
The original saffi combo deck, "project x" from ravnica/time spiral standard is my favorite deck ever :D It didn't have a real soon condition in the combo (only infinite life with essence warden) but that was fine, since the deck was less focused on the combo and had a very strong midrange breakdown plan on top of it. Can't really ignore a bunch of lockdown hierarchs.
Opponent decks seem a touch off this video : P Love me some Saffi, thought the same thing when I opened extraction specialist. Tempted to put the package in a commander deck, but don't quite have the fit for it
Didnt watch the video yet but man... how i miss modern. And abzan sacrifices decks are my favorites of all times. Thanks Seth Probably Better Known As Saffron Olive.
At 24:20 I'm pretty sure you could've Chorded for Viscera Seer during your upkeep and then do the combo to scry infinitely until you hit a Blood Artist and then just draw it for turn.
46:56 "Against the control deck, against the infinte counterspells, against the topdecks, against the mana screw..." You had to finish with "...AGAINST THE OOOOOODDS!!!"
Difficult. Even being one piece less, I think not having a reliable way to find the altar makes it less consistent than the 4 pieces being all creatures. Great input though!
This is basically just Yawgmoth combo, no? Many piece combo, tutors, sacrifice, and once the opponent knows what you're up to you win with Janky creature beats while they hold up removal in case you can combo.
Yes, but I think there’s an argument that the white splash offers different interaction/sideboard options like Skyclave. I’m also no expert on Yawgmoth matchups hit this version also has decent life gain through artist/celebrant which seems better vs aggro. But also yawgmoth is probably just better, generally.
It's similar for sure, since both are sacrificed based combo decks, although outside of Blood Artist and mana dorks I'm not sure the decks actually share many cards.
@@MTGGoldfish There is Yawgmoth, Grist, and Chord of calling, but yeah, I get your point. The Yawgmoth deck plays Eldritch Evolution. I wonder if that is better than Coco here, or no, because you need so many combo pieces?
You mentioned at the beginning of the video that it would be difficult to do a 4 card combo. Golgari Yawgmoth is currently a 3-4 card combo too. (Depends on your choice) Yawgmoth decks utilize Wall of Roots for 2 green with Chord.
Sort of. They are doing and all access thing on Magic Online right now where you pay $25 and you get all the cards. I've never seen anyone play old border Ragavan outside of all access events though, so I'm not sure you can get them naturally at this point.
I have had pretty good luck with MTGO chat as well. I play a bunch of commander and people are generally pretty cool. Sometimes you meet the other kind of person but I am too busy enjoying the game and laughing to really care about them.
Yeah, I think that's an interesting possibility, although the downside is that our deck is really good at finding creatures (with CoCo and Chord of Calling) but not good at all at finding artifacts. Still could be worth playing a few of them though, it is nice that you can combo with less pieces.
Yeah, the upside is that it takes less pieces to combo, but the downside is that our deck is really good at finding creatures, but not especially good at finding artifacts, so it sort of evens out in the end I think, although I could see running a copy or two of Blasting Station if we can make it fit without cutting too many creatures and weakening CoCo/Chord of Calling.
If they make a Yu-gi-oh styled Magic: The Gathering anime. This has got to be the deck that the main character plays. Talk about clutching victory out of the jaws of defeat. All. The. Time.

I'd imagine that Murktide is a tough matchup, but I haven't played it yet.

Janky 4 card combo. Death triggers. Abzan colors. You have my attention.
