Seth then: Meeting of the Five is the worst mythic in the set. Seth now: Maybe Meeting of the Five is actually good. Seth in a few months: Why Meeting of the Five needs to be banned.
I’ve been brewing this deck for Pioneer after picking up a copy of Meeting of the Five in draft. The best part was what I got to name the deck, appropriately named “this deck could have been in an email”.
Your lines throughout this video were very solid, which I'm sure contributed to the success of the deck. I think the real takeaway is that widespread thievery is a pretty decent card.
I feel like they were actually trying to play around removal, because Seth couldn't kill both halls with ward if he had removal in hand, but didn't realize how copying cards works. Still a major punt, but if you look at it in the way the opponent THOUGHT it works, it makes sense to do.
I feel like this was less of a demonstration that Meeting of the Five is sneakily good, and more of a demonstration that Widespread Thieving is a potential sleeper. EDIT: No, seriously, Meeting of the Five only really did impressive things when you had a Widespread Thieving out. Meeting of the Five definitely feels like the weaker partner here.
@@LadyMapi So, the answer is nothing then. That's the funny part about strategies. If a single card is too powerful, it's not a fun game. But when you support your main card, it does cool stuff. Widespread Thieving is clearly needed for the deck, but that's good. It means Meeting of the Five is a fair card.
Seth your energy is 10/10 and your T-shirt game is 11/10. I always tune in to see 1. What crazy new deck you're playing and 2. What awesome shirt you're wearing. Cheers!
I made up a decklist called Five Color Tri Color, all about using as many 3 cost tricolor cards with widespread thieving, the capenna traffic light, and 2 enchantments, swarm intellegence and cloven casting, along with primal amulet to cast as many tricolors as possible and having the Fist of Suns Commander for it.
Couldn’t you also play Rocco to tutor out any 7 mana or less creature by paying the 10? Like getting the big ones Meeting didn’t pick (Ziatora, Xander, etc)
That first game is the core of my ideology: never leave lethal on board. If you die on the backswing because they have the play then so be it but if you have lethal on board and you don't force them to at least find the line you're probably gonna get punished for your hubris.
This reminds me of the episode where you played sultai ultimatum in against the odds and then it became a meta deck. Maybe meeting of the five is actually a sleeper and is actually broken.
I'm really curious about how you'd build a Pioneer Meeting deck, since you'd have access to a bunch more tri-color cards with Tarkir, Ikoria, and some of the Core Sets
Widespread thievery is the star of this deck. Ironically I think Pioneer gives you the tools to actually cut Meeting of the Five from the deck altogether.
@@alwaysplaythegame hate it when I'm trying to build a deck around a card, and the deck just ends up better without the card that card in it- Sometimes find myself playing 61 cards for 1 copy of said card
Honestly I was concerned when I saw widespread thieving spoiled. It's ability to refund one mana on anything multicolored or provide ramp for the next turn seemed primed for abuse. Thank you for confirming that I wasn not paranoid Seth, I was right, lol.
I'd legit love to see him pull off the Spy Kit combo in Legacy. ... For anyone who isn't familiar: Spy Kit is a weird equipment from one of the Conspiracy sets that gives the equipped creature the names of EVERY non-legendary creature in Magic. As a result, you can target a token with a Spy Kit on it with a March for X=1 and tutor out ANY non-legendary creature in your deck.
This card is so bad. It’s like Seth is jumping on a grenade and playing this card so we all don’t have to. Thank you for your service, Saffron Olive. :)
It’s kinda funny comparing meeting of the 5 to 7-8 drops of last year’s standard like Ugin and the Ultimatums. Just goes to show how much better (imo) this standard is
I'd like to see widespread theivery in a Niv-Mizzex reborn deck. It is a shame that it doesn't work with bring to light though since paying WUBRG isn't a replacement mana cost.
Nimble larcenist feels like a better choice for this deck than interceptor; just more proactive in a deck that's based around a card that plays at sorcery speed
that was a dope first game lol. sideboard doesn't really look ideal since it makes your main plan so much worse. even though they're less efficient, I think it would be better to play more 3-color cards in the sideboard instead of 1-color spells like negate, so you can swap out something like riveteers charm for more endless detours and obscura charms and interceptors, which won't ruin your deck. even nimble larcenist would be a decent sideboard card honestly, not least because it can't be negated.
I've been playing with the idea of Meeting of the Five deck in Modern. Basically, I somehow cheat the cost to cast a Meeting of the Five, double the mana with a Doubling Cube, and then the only 3-color spell I can think of to dump all that mana into is Villainous Wealth. Then, I guess I would just hope that casting the top 20 cards of the opponent's library wins.
Honestly, after seeing this, I'm going to build a meeting of the five commander deck. Just debating about whether Ravos or Jodah would be more appropriate (they're both going in regardless, it's a matter of having a castable commander off of meeting of the five mana)
Jodah seems like the pick. Meeting of the Five for five mana is damn solid, then you'd be guaranteed to cast at least two spells off the Meeting. Which doesn't sound great, sure... unless those two spells are two Ultimatums. Ramos would let you storm off, quote unquote, a bit more reliably, and a colourless commander in a five colour deck is always a good idea, but if you can make a reliable enough mana base I think Jodah is just slightly more powerful. The one problem, of course, is that it's hard to make an actual Meeting of the Five commander deck, as you can only include one copy in the 99. Still, you can make 5 colour 3-colour goodstuff (if that makes sense) and just have Meeting of the 5 as an end game bomb. I think Jodah would be the best commander for that deck, as well - casting Ultimatums or family leaders for 5 mana is just good Magic.
Your video covered your treasures, which made it hard to follow your lines, but otherwise cool deck. Maybe with video editing, you can put the treasure count up on the side of the screen or something.
mulligans to 5 is NOT Richard Garfield's fault. The Paris Mulligan and it's variants aren't part of the original game rules. Richard would have had you keep the 1-lander! :P
It struck me as odd that Meeting of the Five had such specific requirements, but after seeing this, maybe R&D had a good reason. Imagine if it just said multicolored instead of 3 color spells...
Magic Arena lets your card BACKS be the art of existing magic cards?! That is an absurd design overlook; match 2's opponent was topdecking a revealed Damnation for the entire match!
You're an awesome deckbuilder for making this nonsense work. Your cards per family are 6 5 5 3 3, with the lower two being bant and naya. those colors also seem to have the weakest links in the deck, possibly excepting endless detour. I wonder if you couldnt focus primarily on esper and jund since they only overlap in black mana, adding more copies of your *good* cards like raffine/void rend/unleash. Then just fill in with the best cards from the nonblack shards to alleviate your mana overlap. obviously tweak mana-base to suit.
35:22 Why don't you chump with the 1/1? Would have gained you 3 life and You acknowledge only wrath could save you so no point leaving it. Fun video though :)
60 card deck with only 3 of them being 4x. Truly getting back to classic Against the Odds gameplay.
I read the title as “morbin up” I think I’m going insane
Same.
You are not alone
It’s morbin time!
I read it as moblin up and was like "I've been playing too much botw, again"
This deck will win a morbillion times

Perfect

This is the most deck ever, it has cards and it was played. This is definitely the most deck of the format
god you're so right
I liked the part where he played lands and spells. Such a deck thing to do
This is certainly one of the decks of all time
Definitely one of the decks that’s ever been played.
I hate this copypasta
I love how the opponent goes for the cocky rub ins, and then punts.
I feel like they were actually trying to play around removal, because Seth couldn't kill both halls with ward if he had removal in hand, but didn't realize how copying cards works. Still a major punt, but if you look at it in the way the opponent THOUGHT it works, it makes sense to do.
If I have learnt anything, widespread thieving can be super good. Meeting of the Five was there I guess 😂
What are you talking about it was literally the only reason Seth won 2 games at all
When I first saw this card spoiled, I could just hear "Aaagainst the Odds time" in my head and here we are.
What card would you use instead as the other half of that combo? In place of Meeting of the Five, I mean.
@@malcomchase9777 In Standard not sure, but in Pioneer and other formats the answer is clear: Niv-Mizzet, Reborn
I agree, although meeting might be good enough to throw into a widespread deck.

Meeting of the five was the first rare slot of pack 1 when I drafted new capenna. It made it all the way around the table and back to me 😂
I love these types of against the odds, where it's just not some crazy combo to assemble. They get kind of samey

First against the odds where I saw the build around card and just thought, "I'm sorry."
Lore accurate that Xander goes down first
OMG!! GAME ONE THO!! You do not see that everyday! That was awesome!!
This reminds me of the episode where you played sultai ultimatum in against the odds and then it became a meta deck. Maybe meeting of the five is actually a sleeper and is actually broken.
Put those hands together. What this deck needs is some singleton ultimatums
He also played hammer time before it became meta.
I think it was "meme or dream" and he actually went undefeated with it. I miss that series.
The greatest deck building jank challenege from New Capenna!!!

the punt of the first opponent was so awesome, ty opponent so seth can cast meeting of the five
Good god they had to have been salty after that match... That punt actually cost them everything
Random thought a friend of mine had, can Dice Twin work in pioneer or is it too slow?

Sarulf, Realm Eater seems good in the Standard Treasure Meta.

is it me, or this video was just amazing? I mean, Seth so involved on winning, and happy and wow! Seth I love you mate
That match one game two was so brutally lucky for your opponent, from deluge to 3 top end finishers in a row...
Worst card in the set, huh? Now do March of Burgeoning Life!
Do it seth! No ballllls!

MATCH 1 IT POPS OFF!?
Not sure if this has sold me on Meeting of the Five, but I do have a new appreciation for Widespread Thieving.
Bear, the Cord Chewer strikes again!
This probably should be more spell slingery with the magecraft treasure guy.
Idk would that guy make it better?
Goldspan would make the deck better but I think xorn would make more sense, but then you kind of have too many pieces
I'm so happy this one came out on top on the poll
Really neat video. My only complaint is the video of Seth makes it so I can’t see how many treasures he has so I can’t fully follow the match

What is the new worst mythic of New Capenna? All-Seeing Arbiter?
One of the best targets in my invoke justice deck.
Arbiter is a pretty messed up Kikki target, your creatures will never have power ever again
