How Strong Are Faction Leaders in Classic WoW? (Alliance Edition)

- Hey guys, and welcome to the second and final part of the video series where we look at how strong faction leaders are in Classic World of Warcraft. In the first part we went over the Horde leaders, so today it is the Alliance’s turn. Rexxar will also get a short mention in the end since I forgot about him last time, and he does fit my own criteria I set of what I consider a faction boss to be.
Including Rexxar, 8 leaders will be covered in total in today’s video which is why it is a lot longer than the previous. Fortunately, that also means we get the chance to look at a lot of different and interesting boss abilities and mechanics.
Before doing this video series, I had very little knowledge of the faction leaders and I didn’t realize that Blizzard had actually spent what my inexperienced eyes see as a good amount of effort designing them. My hope with the series is to put each of the faction leaders in the limelight they deserve and to share their interesting design and some of the cool abilities they make use of, so you can hopefully appreciate them like I do and experience for yourself that there are still more things we can learn about the original World of Warcraft even 15 years after it was first released.

I wish there were more world pvp, especially city-raids. The faction leaders should have better loot, or special loot that ppl actually would want to aquire. That would make the citys more interesting with more pvp and alot more content that ppl could enyoy. Then it isnt the same day after day in end game when u are not raiding or playing bg's.
If the faction leaders would drop lets say turn in items that you can trade for pvp-items after a while it would make it worth your while
It would be very cool if there was a greater incentive to kill faction leaders. Imagine if they dropped some of the gear they were wearing - like Cairne's totem weapon or Magni's hammers or something like that. The "item turn-in" idea for PvP rewards that you mention would be another way to encourage city raids - there are multiple options!

Yo that's our guild Filthy Casuals over on Kromcrush, we did this for fun before pvp came out, our server stomped stormwind badly after ally failed to breach Orgrimmar's gates. Goldshire was completely covered by like 200 horde, every single npc dead, it was glorious. FOR THE HORDE!
That's awesome! Must have been great fun, I'm sure - I haven't had the pleasure of being a part of a city raid in Classic. Unfortunately, I don't think they happen as much now because of the fear of getting dishonorable kills :(

Since NPCs like Shandris Feathermoon & Saurfang aren’t considered bosses. Would you consider extending this series to include notable bosses with some dangerous abilities. (That are friendly to only one faction)
A lot of people seem interested in NPCs like those, so I definitely plan on doing some research on them. I think it could make for a good video if I can get enough information :)

Jaina was farmed for the gold she dropped by a guild and they got banned for it and blizzard added the teleport spell to her rotation.

I was just a little to young to play the original classic world of Warcraft. But my parents did and they killed the alliance leaders lol. Started playing in the burning crusade i think lol

Funfact, on top of magni being the toughest city boss, ironforge guards provide a problem to melee, they have an aoe thunderclap ability that slows down movement speed and attack speed. They rarely use it unless they stick around for a bit. They also have sunder armor, which when mass used on a tank makes him easier for magni to burn down. I believe they slow attack speed by 50% for roughly 6 seconss
Yeah, first I thought it was Magni who used the Thunderclap ability, but then I realised it was the guards. I didn't know they used Sunder Armor as well, so that's interesting. Some of the other city guards use some abilities as well according to Wowhead, but it isn't really something I've ever thought of.
Moegdal's WoW Videos yes i can tell you actually. Orc guards: enrage (at 10% hp increae damage and attack speed by 50%) cleave: deal 110% weapon damage to target and 2 nearby targets. Thunderbluff watcher: heroic strike deal 110% weapon damage to one target, backhand (removed in later patches) stun target for 2 seconds, uneffected by DR. Ironforge guards: thunderclap, slow movement speed and attack speed by 50% 6 seconds. Sunder armor. Theramore guards: shield block, reduce melee damage by 75% for 4 seconds, kick, interupt spell casting. Undercity guardians: hook chain, works like death pull from DKs, rarely used. And a cone damage ability rather weak. The rest have no special abilities. The most annoying being theramore guards who consistently interupt spell casting one at a time. The thunderbluff guards even when they had a stun used it all at the same time often making it negligible
@@silasgs9257 Wow, that was really comprehensive! Interesting stuff - I like that Blizzard took their time to give some of the city guards abilities. My favourite would be the hook from the Undercity Guardians that I had no idea they used.
Moegdal's WoW Videos yes i loved that aswell world pvp was my hobby for a few years. Unfortunately they didnt give all the races a few abilities to their guards. It adds flavor to the whole concept. I would really like to see all the city guards have their own abilities but it probably wont happen. As it stands all the horde ones have abilities, minus the deathguard elite. And only ironforge has abilities ally side, not counting theramore. And if you wanna see the hook chain ability first hand, bind a guardian and run away from it, it may strigger the response to use it. However im not sure if this was added only for the wotlk patch (alot of undead npcs recieved revamps) but pretty sure its always been around
@@silasgs9257 Yeah, it would be cool if all guards had special abilities. I don't know how it is in retail at the moment, and if they have changed things there. I'll definitely have to test out the hook ability sometime!
Do you think you could make a video about Druid gear?
I'm probably not the right person for that since I don't have much experience with the class. That being said, I am actually leveling a druid at the moment, so if I get more experience I might make some kind of druid video in the future.
What do you use for the recreations? And how did you find their abilities/damage of abilities

From other people I've heard that it was a private server thing and that he doesn't use it in Classic. Would be very cool if he did, however!

Watching this after getting For The Alliance! on Skyfury fresh WoTLK Pre-Patch server. (the bosses are scaled to Wotlk level. So 85+) and man is it buggy. They all just reset constantly unless absolutely everyone is standing in the right spots. If people start to spread out too much, or god forbid they step onto a small ledge, the bosses just reset and will sometimes DESPAWN ALL TOGETHER! Made what should have been an awesome gameplay experience into a massive frustrating chore. Constantly having to exit the cities and change multiple 40 man groups over to layers where the boss hasn't glitched out just for it to happen all over again.
We got it in the end but I wouldn't describe a single ONE of these faction leader battles as any thing even close to a raid boss. The only mechanics you have to worry about are the ones that potentially break the game... Really disappointing from a gameplay perspective. The mount is nice but was more interested in the epic battles.
How much honour do they give/ do they drop loot?
I believe the leaders Magni, Fandral and Bolvar (racial leaders) give 15,000 honor points which is then split over the raid that kills them. I think most of the faction leaders drop between 50g and 100g

didn't rexar enrage when you kill misha? could be the mendella effect taking me here, but i swear i thought it was something like that..
He enrages - shortly I believe - when Misha dies, and then he has an enrage timer as well (at least he did back in Vanilla at some point). I mention it all in the video :)

She's "only" level 62 I believe. I might make future video about NPCs like her if I can get enough information.

Oh yeah, I didn't even think of that ability. I guess it is similar to Starfall, but I've actually never seen it in action or at least I've never noticed if it was being used. However, it is single target, right?

Forgive me for being a classic noob, but why is it that in the first footage you showed of the Jaina fight, it is from the POV of what appears to be a human on the horde side?
There's a consumable called deviate delight that changes your appearance to a human. There are other consumables and items that do this for both factions.

She is not technically a "raid boss" or in the same category as raid bosses (she's only level 62), but from what I've gathered she is about as strong as one. I might make a future video about NPCs like her and Saurfang in Orgrimmar.

After watching these videos my question why people say theirs not enough stuff to do in classic at max level and mc and bwl is too easy but i rarely ever see the horde on my server try to kill a faction leader.
Yeah, I think only a small minority of players in Classic have actually killed any of the opposing faction's leaders. I guess the incentive isn't there for most people, and it can be hard to put together a raid as a result. Since the implementation of the honor system there's also the concern of getting dishonorable kills which probably discourages some players as well. Taking down a faction leader can be a great challenge and great fun, so it's a shame.

I'm not sure about his role in Classic WoW. Isn't he neutral to both the Horde and Alliance, and is he even present in the game currently? If he used some cool abilities I would love to look into him.
Malfurion was only added in to World of Warcraft properly in Cataclysm, before that he was only in Warcraft 3.

The Alliance Onyxia quest, right? According to another person commenting on my Horde video, you will be able to attack Lady Onyxia and she will attack back, but she won't use any abilities. I haven't tried it myself though.

@@outlawzqc I think she will just go down without much of a fight - I'm almost certain she doesn't transform. For some reason I had the idea you couldn't attack her as a Horde player, and there's actually an old comment on Wowhead that says you can't. According to Classic Wowhead, however, she is hostile to Horde players. Maybe she was changed at some point in Vanilla.
