- The Burning Crusade is almost upon us! But that also means that World Buffs, both a blessing and a curse, and certainly a much discussed subject, are disappearing as well!
With TBC coming out so soon I had to try to get videos done that only pertain to the Vanilla-Classic era, of which World Buffs are certainly one! I had hoped to make more videos (and in particular, make some about TBC!) but this one proved quite difficult to plan, and videos with several characters always take a lot longer.

you should visit eorzea. we have gnomes but cute instead of ugly. we call them lalafells. It is customary to pat those you find cute on the head.
@@kaporalhart I visited there (specifically Gridania) they were lovely and had cute little cheers but the one with the giant sword and the dark aura reeking of the edge staring at me from the corner of the room have me concerned for my life.

And the reason I quit. :( I miss og wow, when things were just fun, this time around, classic was way to micro managed by even the simple guilds.

Vanilla and classic were also mechanically two different games. Classic is more like a emulator of vanilla, not even the LUA API is the same.

It reminds me when I (randomplayer) simply asked if there was a lore guild (not rp) and they all laughed at me, and made some jokes because in french lore and gold are almost the same : do you buy something with lore, etc. (sorry for my bad english)
It's so weird to me, and this happens both in classic and retail and a huge portion of why I don't play anymore.
This is how the game evolved or devolved more like. People farm the same shit over and over again so they want it to be as efficient and quick as possible which will in turn make them murder every last ounce of fun in it. But the truth is that people spend the same amount of time playing, so the overall rewards like look or whatelse is kinda the same, so the accomplishment of a single action becomes less and less.
It's kinda like if your drug dealer started mixing flour into your kokain and instead of capping the bastard you just start snoring more and more of it, but by now it isn't doing anything to you. So you either stop or you reduce it to a sort of chore you have to do.
Being cussed out for delivering a quest was truly a highlight of the Classic experience.

This reminds me at the start of the game, when a random guild refused to follow the schedule of the Ony head, because it didn't fit their raid times. The entire server split their Ony raids in as many groups as they could and had 24/7 head up in Stormwind, just so that 1 guild couldn't fuck up the buff schedule. It was glurious and hilarious at the same time.
Dude it was insane how organised the buff organisation was in the top guilds. Just no chill at all.
then you had servers like mine where there were cross faction guilds that lived at raid entrances, filled with priests, specifically to eradicate any world buff on both sides... the salt filled a ocean but it was glorious.

Its best to find guilds that are not aiming for the meta but rather "what should we do now" kinda of attitude, i love when a guild mate says "can anyone help me at Jinta alor?" and ill probably join even though im 60 and farming some herbs at the moment, i reliesh in the idea of just hanging out and helping someone whos leveling in what i knew were quite an annoying place for meny. But as long as i can chitchat with said person i feel like its worth its waight in gold.

Even tho i had a nice guild, the community outside the guild still sucks. Full of elitists wannabe, couldnt help it but to quit the game. Everyone boosting,bots everywhere, like what has wow become, really sad.
Yeah, its why I left my guild and kinda stoped playing wow.. was looking foward to raids as it was pretty much all I had left to do aside from mythics with randoms (which gets samey after a while despite modifiers), only for the guild leader to basically decide my blood DK would never be a part of raids because he played one already and didn't want 2 of the same class as tanks... or hell, leaving his spot from time to time for others to have fun. This kind of people forgot its a game and about being fun, not a darn job you could lose if you don't perform.
And its not like I did bad overall when I knew what I had to do.
Couldnt agree more, i was always down to help ppl wit whatever they needed. That was the game for me. Also I remember what it was like to grind and find. There were a lot of new players to wow so helping them brought me joy.
@@thorveim1174 so true. I was in a guild that was excellent, unfortuantely to get there they were obsessed with parse and record raid times, who was the first to down so-n-so and being "prepared" for the new content. quit

Honestly over the course of all the classic guides and now this, these videos have become so much more expressive despite there being no vocal support, it's insane. It's like a wordless version of some of the best Captain Grimm videos, and I dig it a lot.

And that's why I didn't bother to level past 40 in classic. Everyone is obsessed with micromanaging and being efficient. I just wanted to enjoy the game, but it's difficult when everyone around is just trying to get to the end, no exploring, not anything else but racing.
It is an min-max spreadsheet "game". But that does go for any mmo. At least of what i observed.

And goes doubly true the older a game becomes. In a new game no one knows what to do yet, and people experiment and iterate on the ideas of others to try and improve. It's kind of how i play games myself: looking up builds, picking one that seems cool, and then making changes so it works for me. (be it only because there is some utilities or QoL that arent part of the build and feel too good for me to take out, or because I have to make do with inferior gear) Serves me well in Path of Exile for exemple, when taking the rough idea of a character build that is outdated by several years give me a character that I really enjoy to this day, and still works even as I keep fiddling with it, only using the internet to know what good things can exist and what I should look out for.
In older games, it becomes all about copying the one fully tested meta, else you are considered "trash". Experimenting is then seen as a waste of time, as that would be deviating from the meta.
Play on a rp server. It's way better

A meta that killed Classic WoW for many.
Yup. Leveled a character to 60 and shortly uninstalled the game, lmao. World buffs are not the only issue though. As soon as the phrase "meme specs" became widespread, I started to get a bad feeling.

@@crepooscul I played Druid in classic and I mean Boomkin was basically non-functional, it really did actually nothing in a raid. Ret was terrible but our guild had our one signature Ret paladin because he was the chillest guy and basically our guild's mascot, as well as a Shadow Priest and an Arms Warrior despite them being off-meta.
It's not a toxic meta, it's just people know what does not work. some specs in Vanilla are not remotely balanced to function in raids and despite that there were plenty of guilds happy to have their one token Boomkin, Ret, etc because when you have 40 raid slots it doesn't matter much if 1-3 of them are doing 1/4 of the DPS of everyone else.
There were no world buff guilds, there was even a guild of all dwarves.
There's a reason they're called meme specs, it's because there are just a few specs in Classic that simply do not function properly in a raid environment, Boomkins run out of mana before killing the boss unless other druids are feeding them extra innervates, only for them to still be at the bottom of the DPS meters.
Some specs in Vanilla pay the "hybrid tax" (Prot Pala not having a taunt, Ret Pala being terrible DPS in raids, Boomkin going oom in raids extremely quickly, Elemental going oom in raids, Feral DPS being a lower damage rogue, etc) for being hybrid classes, with usually only their healing spec being viable (and Feral tank for Druids, Feral DPS in some raids).
Additionally, many of these specs were designed and balanced around PvP, something that still continues even on Retail to a certain extent. Shadow Priest shreds in PvP but runs out of mana too fast in raids, same for Elemental. Enhancement is a PvP monster but bad in raids as is Ret, Boomkin is good in PvP and Feral is especially good. Druids are the uncontested gods of flag carrying in WSG despite being the weakest class overall in top end raiding.
Meanwhile Fury Warriors are the crème de la crème of DPS in Classic WoW, yet absolutely horrible in PvP.
Night Elf leader is always the highlight of the video.

This video sums it up perfectly. I wanted to raid classic but the consume farming/world buff stacking nonsense just to enter really fucked me off. "We need 26 max buffed furys to kill the boss" No, you're impatient and want the boss dead in 30 seconds and won't deal with anything less than a speed run to whine in SW
Just spend a few hours to gather world buffs and don't play on your character for a while, so you spend 15 minutes less on this raid. Makes sense doesn't it?

the most ironic part was how everyone was so pissed they lost their wbs, even in my guild, which was semi hc and i ddint care for buffs and ppl didnt care that i didnt have them, when those ppl lost their buffs, there were mad af (random death, over agro etc) so most of them hated getting buffs and then they were fking mad they would lose them early, pure cancer gameplay
Yeah, sadly because I gave up I missed the chance to raid because of it. Did a ZG run just before next came out and WB were still required.
It was especially funny when they'd either wipe or get dispelled on the way in.
Then choose to blame something *other* than investing so much time into wbuffs for their anger.

And yet this is exactly why it's unplayable right now (especially thanks to min-maxers)
Honestly, still better than retail where people getting their thing and then vanishing is 99% of the game.
The "meta" people in classic are a blemish, but it's not the entire experience, and honestly that's not a fault of the content but a fault of the internet ecosystem right now.
I still made some fun memories in classic, while the only thing I remember from Shadowlands is being frustrated at pugs being consistently unable to do the DDR mechanic that was made for toddlers.
Classic is so much worse than retail (better sayed the Community) it made me real sad :/

The effect of rose-colored goggles. The "community" of vanilla was a product of its time. The community we have now is a product of its time. If Shadowlands was 2004, it would have had the vanilla community. If vanilla came out in 2021, it would still have the community of current classic. People blame the game, but it's all player-created issues. World buffs existed in vanilla - but it's the community of players today that made the classic world buff meta - it's not the fault of the game. See: "the lfg tool ruined grouping!" Naw man, player attitudes changed grouping. Instead of the dungeon finder, we now have mage boosting. Is it better? No. You can never go home again. I'm looking forward to the dungeon finder in Wrath classic, because I want to be able to do at-level dungeons again without waiting for an hour only to have the group fall apart and take a boost. There was a reason for the changes made to the game over the years.

I've been playing classic entirely in bgs and questing, I made the mistake of running into a group who were killing the Onyxia turn-in guy to reset it. I had no idea what they were doing and asked but they basically made that hissing noise like in the video at me, lol. So just went back to questing and bg-ing 'cuz 'fuck 'em, that's why.
