Don’t worry, us artists from overseas can probably find the same or similar as well. I’m watching this as an inspiration. My first ceramic dish I got is a snack plate, it was an awesome find at a thrift store.
Those ceramic plates with many dividers can also be found in housewares in some mass retail stores - often called fondue or raclette plates. You can also use plain ceramic plates for a larger mixing area.
Watching with my eight year old. About halfway through she exclaimed "he made me want to draw!" and grabbed paper and colored pencils. Love this channel so much, and love how inspiring you are (to my daughter and I both!).
Ang M. Watching with my 9yo (birthday just last week) and she was the same! Love that our families are sharing Steve’s inspiration! Bet he gets a kick out of it too!
@@Roslyngal agreed! And most art channels are family friendly, but I feel like this one is particularly wholesome. And Steve's language is neither patronizing nor complicated; it's easy to understand, easy to follow along, and educational. I am so glad that he shares his gift with us!
*Tracy Born Again Farm Girl Why not? I always collect some gifts for myself and ask my husband to wrap them for me. I pick up second hand art supplies when I can and just hand them over to him. By the time Christmas comes I’ve forgotten and I get a surprise!
I suggest albrecht durer watercolor pencil sets, Agallo handmade watercolors. Etsy stoneworks mill watercolors, Etchr sketchbooks.. a NEWWAVE U.GO pochade box and tripod. A projector with twistable tripod. They may even want to make their own watercolors so you could get them pigments from kremlin, a glass muller, a glass slab, palette knife set, gum Arabic, vegetable glycerin, clove oil, empty half pans from amazon. Pendragon shoes on Etsy makes a Leaf Art Utensil roll in summer leaf colors and autumn with elvish script.
If they can’t afford paints get different dot cards like Daniel smith, m gram and some Etsy suppliers offer as well then they can select their colors and save.
A value grey scale finder, a lap desk for couch lazy painting, Etchr mirror, pebeo blue liquid frisked and a pen and ink quill set to lay down the frisket, whiskey painters travel palette with water container,
4:08 - I have that flower palette, I use it for inks, it’s great 🙂. I also have the Paul Rubens block, the paper in it is awesome, it’s fast becoming my favourite hot pressed. Watercolour dries velvety, hard to explain.
This is a nice list. The RendR sketchbook works well with markers, and according to someone who knows the person who developed it, the purpose was to use this paper with marker. I have tried it with watercolor and watercolor pencils and I didn't really like it. When I bought the Rubens paints, a brush and the pink covered block and they added a really neat tool to separate the paper from the block - this would make a great present! Travel brushes are also great presents.
I have a small similar version of the Paul Rubens block and I love it as my sketchbook! The paper is so nice and smooth and doesnˋt buckle at all. Thank you for the selection of ideas!
Hey Steve, I have to fangirl for a quick minute about Claudia Nice. Her name is pronounced like “Rice”, and very nice she is indeed. I had the pleasure of attending a weekend workshop hosted by Claudia and her husband at her Brightwood Studio in countryside at the base of Mt. Hood in Oregon. Claudia was the traveling, teaching and consulting artist in residence for many years for Koh-I-Nor/Rapidograph and Grumbacher, hence her amazing pen & ink with watercolor artistry and skill. She is such a cool person, If you know her you are lucky. If you don’t know her, you should reach out. Like you, Claudia is a fan of M.Graham watercolor and we used it in the workshop. website is www.brightwoodstudio.com. I love your product reviews and hope Santa is generous to us all this year. Cheers!
I love the ceramic palettes and bought the small square one after seeing you use it. Now I am a ceramic palette snob (you got me started!) but they are so sturdy and easy to clean when changing colors. Cheap Joes has terrific American Journey porcelain studio size palettes in 2 sizes starting at $19.99. I bought the one that has paint wells along 3 sides with mixing areas in the middle and includes a cover and they also carry one that has wells along all 4 sides. Obviously this is not a travel palette but it holds decent amounts of paint, cleans up easily and thoroughly, and being heavy with a cover means it is fairly cat proof (I place a weight on the cover!). This was my gift to self last year.
Loving that vertical brush holder. I have one of the ones with the spring holds the brushes, and every so often it ejects my brushes while they’re drying. I’ll have to look for this one.
So many great ideas! Last year, I bought one of the ceramic palettes. This year I thought more on technique books. And some nice brushes. Oh, my, I need to be shopping soon. Thanks for all the great ideas.
I got many gift cards for Christmas to spend on art-related things, so I've been checking "gift guide" videos to help myself decide on the best way to spend them. I honestly hadn't thought of books! The ones you suggested I was unfamiliar with, and they are such great suggestions, thank you.
I'm commenting before the video is over because I'm so happy you demo'd the no bleed through on the sketchbook! I've been looking for one just like that! Thanks Steve :)
Really appreciated the different and thoughtful gifts for artists, especially the watercolour supplies. Buying them for myself this year, the art for joy journal and the sta-new looks like good purchases that’ll suit me!
What a great choice of gift ideas. I love the Paul Rubens block, it looks really pretty. I also liked the cube shaped pencil case and the nifty clipboard sketch case and the sketchbook - it's not so easy to find a sketchbook that's bleed proof so that's definitely a great one to give or buy for oneself :) I will definitely check out those books - such lovely work. I am sure I can find these in the UK too. Thanks for sharing.
My son always gives me an Amazon gift card every year and I get a chance to splurge on items I wouldn't normally buy. I return the favor by giving him paintings. It's a win, win! Love the Ruebens block! I might go for that with my gift card this year!
I just got that first dish you pulled out a few weeks ago to mix watercolors in because it keeps my mixes separate and always stays white, unlike a plastic mixing tray. I really like it! Thanks for all these new gift ideas & Happy Holidays 2U!
Great video Steve, I love seeing new ideas for gift giving. I've already secured my husband's gift to me - if you don't sort it out yourself you won't get what you want, ha ha. Splash 20 is heading my way very soon. Cheers.
Thank you so much for your time and help, Steve. Really great gift ideas for the artist friends.....do so love the FC Pitt set and the art bin board. I already have a FC Pitt set similar to that one and makes me want to draw something just thinking about it....love your channel and I watch every thing you post. Thank you 🖌️🎨😎
Wow just saw this and I know I’m late but Christmas is coming up again, loads of great ideas, put down the pen, ink watercolour books on my wish list for this year, the travel brush would be great for my daughter and I think the case would also come in handy. Such a cool watch, thanks for the great gift ideas.
Thanks for the reminder about buying past issues on Ebay. I just ordered 1-5! I guess it's an early Christmas gift for myself. I'm planning to take at look at the Rubens watercolor block, and send a link to this to the spousal unit for ideas.
FaLaLa! I love to have my shopping done early as well! I just ordered some watercolor gifts for my granddaughter( and myself from Hubbie). Paints, paper, brushes, Splash and ceramic palletes made my list! Along with a hundred other watercolor items. Thank you for other great ideas! Whenever my family members asked what I would like for Christmas I rarely had an immediate answer. Since starting watercoloring less than a year ago, I’m pretty sure I will always have suggestions for them now!
Thanks for another wonderful video on gift ideas. I want to try the Paul Rubens watercolor blocks. I have the flower palette. The only thing I don't like is you don't have a lot of room for mixing, thinning out of colors. Cute though.
I love the hat and the light up necklace. 😊 I gather you have ALDI in America now. Their tuppaware boxes are ideal for storing pencils and tube paints and are very affordable as they usually come in packs of two or more. I have the type with the clip-lock lid and they're great. 😊 I haven't tried hot pressed paper yet, so I think I may have to put that on my wishlist. 😊 I won a £10 Amazon voucher recently and I used it on a set of Polychromos pencils and oh my goodness, I'm absolutely smitten - I'm never going back to cheaper pencils! 😁
Once again you have some great ideas. I would love any thing from this list, but my husband and I do not give gifts to one another anymore. I do have a small amount of art supplies, but in this day and age we have to keep an eye on what we spend. Oh well thank you for letting me dream for a moment. And thank you for your channel it makes me happy to see your outstanding work.
Great selection you have gathered here, Steve! Thank you. If sharing this video with my hubby doesnt work, I think I have to do some shopping myself after the holidays. (Honey, if youre reading this, its the books I want, any of them.)
Thank you for taking the time to do this gift video. Always inspiring. I love Claudia Nice. Her books got me to try so many textures I wouldn't have thought of. And I love the Kristy Rice books. Fun and playful and sometimes I just need that. Happy holidays to you and your family and thanks for the inspiration all year long.
I have looked at the second palette, more for fun, but at the same time when you are painting cards it would be good to have a variety of colors and rewet them as needed. I know Etchr has the small palette but to me its just too small. Thank you for including the travel watercolor brushes, a couple of these would be nice. ( once again, I need to send Santa a copy of this), my husband loves the hints. Happy Holidays to you and to your family. Many thanks for another year of ideas and skill building videos.
I clicked on the link for one of these items on Amazon. Under the section called "Customers who viewed this item also viewed" were the rest of the list. Looks like your list will be quite helpful!
I really like the Paul Ruebens watercolor blocks. The presentation really is very nice and I'm looking forward to seeing what people might do with the hard cover after the papers are done. It's a nice feeling hardcover. SPLASH19 features 'Autumn Light' on the back cover, by David R. Smith, who is one of my favorite watercolor artist and teacher. He's having his first online 3day workshop as a live stream in December, which I'd highly recommend attending. He's just a lot of fun.
I love your channel. I just picked up that travel watercolor kit that you referenced from Cheap Joe’s in your travel palette video. I think that’d be a fabulous gift! Happy Holidays 😁
Oeh artbin should do a flipout stand on the back as well to make it a portable table easle case. Would so buy that if that was on the market lol. The Laws guide to Nature is a really awesome book wich is I highly recommend for beginner artists. An intermediate probably knows most of it but i learned tons of new stuff from that book. Won't break the bank either.
As a tooootally new watercolorist (okay, okay, new with paper mediums in general, I'm a photographer 😅) I bought myself nothing but plastic palettes at the beginning and drove myself nuts. I even spent money on some really good portable plastic palettes (Portable Painter being one, which is amazing) and yet I had no idea they needed to be hit with an abrasive in order to prevent beading! Well... I stopped at about half a dozen different plastic palettes, because on your recommendation (yeah, Reese, I'm looking at you!) I bought myself two porcelain ones off Amazon, one of which being that little flower thing in the video. Haven't yet figured out how to use it to its optimal, beautiful purpose, but the lack of beading alone has me very smitten with it. (Plus I'm a 29 year old non-programmer/engineer/valued-employee-for-anyone living in Seattle, so buying once is probably more appropriate for my budget... 😝)
I bought that mixing tray from amazon. If you have small details that don’t need much coverage the rose palette is ok. I would probably dedicate it to one painting. But if you go with Steve’s method of painting where you let colors on your palette bleed and mix together to keep colors interesting this palette will not work. I’ve had this for over a year and haven’t touched it again.
I've looked some of these products over before and bought a couple, like that rose ceramic palette, but when it came to the travel brushes the ones I fell for were these www.amazon.com/Escoda-Reserva-Watercolor-Kolinsky-Tajmyr-2-82Mmx16mm/dp/B005SBGFSC but not an entire set with the leather case I'd never use. I got 4 individual brushes in the sizes I most use. I've eyed one of those books too and am tempted to get it. These are all great ideas Steve, thanks for sharing them and I hope Santa stuffs your stocking full of the goodies you want. Blessings to you and your lovely family.
Ain’t gonna lie- watching this to buy stuff for myself
Don’t worry, us artists from overseas can probably find the same or similar as well. I’m watching this as an inspiration.

Ang M. , I’m 70, I feel the same!
Nice ideas Steve! It's always fun trying to come up with unique gift ideas each year, and you found some neat ones!
Hey thanks Denise! Glad you stopped by to take a look.
The Pitt graphite set looks awesome
Excellent list , I’m thinking of sending myself some Christmas 🎄 gifts this year .

A desktop only easel from micheals with a drawer., Trekell protege brushes any size are super sharp pointed and affordable.
I would be delighted with any of these also! I love ALL your suggestions this year! Thanks! I love the ears you are wearing also! Hysterical, is it!
So glad to know I’m not the only pencil case nut out there lol

I'm getting myself the Home Cube case for Christmas.
Make sure you wrap it up beautifully and put it under your tree, or whatever decorations you have.
Thanks for this video! I'm glad you are early. My family lives on the other side of the nation. Giving ideas early helps them a lot.
Thanks for this- and your other videos. But especially for the glimpse of the watercolor annual- shows a side of the medium seldom seen on YT
Awesome suggestions! I really like thectendr paper now but hated it at first so if anyone gets it just stick with it and layer. Its great!
Aah, good, thanks for that input Lindsay! I can't wait to do some work in it.

I love all of Claudia Nice' books. She really inspires me.
That's great to hear. Think I have had the 'Pen & Ink and Watercolor' in my wishlist cause the cover looks familiar.

Me watching gift idea video for artists at 3am just to buy things for myself 🤭
Thank you for considering many price points and the links to the products. These are great ideas!
me, too, donna. aren’t the new products lovely
A lovely set of suggestions!!! I love them all. Thank you.
Thanks Steve for the great ideas. Some really neat stuff for sure. I added a few to my husband's shopping list. (For me). Lol.
I'm hoping you do another gift suggestion list for this year! Anything new and fun on the market? Thanks, Steve.
Actually yes, coming up this week as a matter of fact.
I've noticed that some "Splash" yearbooks actually increase in value. I wish I could have all of them.
thank you, Steve, for the lovely suggestions. Merry Christmas!
I'm commenting before the video is over because I'm so happy you demo'd the no bleed through on the sketchbook! I've been looking for one just like that! Thanks Steve :)

3 art supplies I've been delighted with: Metropolitan fountain pen ($13), Handbook sketchbook ($10), pentel waterbrush set ($8).
These are great picks, Steve! I had not seen some of the book, especially the last two, Splash 20 and Strokes of Genius. So, thank you!
I have a couple of Claudia Nice books and they are very good! Loaded with info!
That robot shirt is awesome!!!!!!

Really loved your gift ideas. 7:34 is so nice. This should improve brush life a lot. 21:58 brushes are excellent. Thank you.
Excellent suggestions this year and many very affordable. Thanks.
This is a wonderful painting! I'm looking forward to Christmas 🎄🎅

I have to get my hands on that Sta-New brush drier - great idea!
I like your product videos 'cause you just tell your true opinion & demonstrate, never selling.

Thanks for the reminder about buying past issues on Ebay. I just ordered 1-5! I guess it's an early Christmas gift for myself. I'm planning to take at look at the Rubens watercolor block, and send a link to this to the spousal unit for ideas.
I just discovered your channel and I learned so much already! Thank you so much for your videos!! ❤️ Happy holidays!
Wonderful video!! Please don’t wait until next Christmas to do another informative fun video like this!! Loved it!

I haven't tried hot pressed paper yet, so I think I may have to put that on my wishlist. 😊
I won a £10 Amazon voucher recently and I used it on a set of Polychromos pencils and oh my goodness, I'm absolutely smitten - I'm never going back to cheaper pencils! 😁

I don't dare to watch this - I fear this will give me great ideas and my purse will scream empty lol! Thank you:):)
Thank you very much for sharing the ideas. Nice books. 😎FL
Thank you for taking the time to do this gift video. Always inspiring. I love Claudia Nice. Her books got me to try so many textures I wouldn't have thought of. And I love the Kristy Rice books. Oh cool, thanks for the heads up on Smith!
Great! Thank you Steve!
I love your channel. I just picked up that travel watercolor kit that you referenced from Cheap Joe’s in your travel palette video. I think that’d be a fabulous gift!
Happy Holidays 😁
Great video Steve !! Thank you so much.
Hey Steve, how about some ideas for Hannukah cards?!
Love the shirt
Some great ideas thanks Steve
Oeh artbin should do a flipout stand on the back as well to make it a portable table easle case. Would so buy that if that was on the market lol. The Laws guide to Nature is a really awesome book wich is I highly recommend for beginner artists. An intermediate probably knows most of it but i learned tons of new stuff from that book. Won't break the bank either.
So many good ideas! Thanks for sharing the links too! I hope they are affiliate links so you can get something back too! Nice job, Now keep painting!
