I love how it’s such a feel good movie for the queer community. It doesn’t have to be all tragedy all the time. We deserve our love stories who end up happy too!!!

right? the book got criticism that it's not realistic... but can't we just for once have something where the ideal world exists? do we always have to be reminded how shitty it really is?
In terms of British royalty, the title goes to the first born son. In olden days, it was vital to have an understood succession of power so the kingdom was happy as soon as a new king produced one son and at least a second one, in case the first one died (child mortality was so high). So there became the saying "an heir and a spare."

Except in this book (and film) the "heir" is Henry's mother.... Of course with the replacement of the Queen (in the book) with a King in the movie, perhaps this version only men can inherit, even if their right to inherit can come through their mother.... ????

The heir just refers to the person next in line directly for the thrown. So there can be more than one but it traditionally refers to the person directly next in line. IRL, Charles was the heir while Queen Elizabeth was still alive. He was HER heir. But William was also the heir because he was directly in line behind Charles making him HIS heir.
So in relation to the movie, Henry's mother is the heir to her father while Henry's brother is the heir to the mother.
Taylor Zakhar Perez (aka Alex's actor) is of Middle Eastern, Mediterranean and Mexican descent. And Alex in the book is also of Mexican descent, from his father.

I love this movie!!! I have watched it 4 times in 1 day and I cannot stop. The book and the movie are great. The chemistry between Nick and Taylor is off the charts!!! I laughed, I cried. Everytime I watch it I see more details and nuances that I missed. The love making scene was perfection!!! Never seen anything like that before. ❤️

I feel like reading the book after seeing the movie is usually a good idea, and it seems to be true in this case. I’ve got it, and I’m looking forward to it, since most of the people I have heard from liked the book even better than the movie.

Yes! Because that’s how I was with Twilight. I watch them all and then read them and it’s like a treat because you get so much more! So I’m excited to read it lol
Agree, I finished reading the book after the movie and it made me appreciate the movie even more, as even after making some changes it ended up being a well made adaptation. The book is, indeed, great, and I loved both.

7:13 Actually in the book there is a line there where it was said that Henry need to produce heirs and Alex said "We could still do that" and in a QnA the author of the book stated that they planned to have a child in their 30s!

reading the book after watchign the movie is SO GOOD. I did it and it was like watching "extra scenes" or "deleted footage" and i couldnt be happier heheheh. I gotta admit tho, the first 50 pages were a bit tough for me like... mmm i didnt connect a LOT but then i got it, so amazing
I think this is a great adaptation, but of course the book is so so much better in my eyes. It's my comfort book. It also gives so much more depth on Alex' character and his ambitions which were like left out of the movie due to time

What you said at the end of this video really moved me, and I'm nearing 40. I'm glad you're giving the book another shot because it's amazing. It's better than the film.
I recommend you to read the book. For me personally it was better. The little moments they shared and character building was better. Also Alex in a book has a sister which I loooove and Henry's sister Bea has very interesting backstory. There are many more little things they missed but overall I think they did a pretty good job (honestly, I wasn't expecting a lot...)

that role was so unrealistic age wise. Taylor is 31 and played a high school student in kissing booth ;D

I absolutely love this book and I think they did a fantastic job making just a simple adaptation of it.❤ They put most of the major details but they also did leave out major storylines. But I felt like the story was just supposed to be fun.😊

The Paris scene is SO sensuous!! Henry's hand pushes down on Alex's back, urging him in. Then, when he's fully in, Henry exhales and raises his eyebrows and nods his head, all good! After they finish the camera pans back and shows TWO condom wrappers to the left of the bed and lube on the right nightstand- 16:50!

great reaction! the book is really good. in it, alex has a sister named june and she's amazing! her, nora, and percy have much bigger parts. wish they were in the movie more. i was really nervous about the film but i ended up liking it well enough.

tbh it's understandable since it's hard to give all ckts screen time in a 2 hours movie, so I am happy they focused on Alex and Henry more, it's their story after all, wouldn't be good if we couldn't connect to them. Also they kinda merged June and Nora's ckt into one but it also works.

I highly encourage you to read the book. I read it 3 years ago and realized when the movie came out that I didn’t remember anything about it. Going back for a re read after seeing the movie was soosooo good.

The film has a neat easter egg for us anglophiles & history geeks: The book's reigning monarch Queen Mary Mountchristen-Windsor is changed to the film's King *James* Hanover-*Stuart*. England's first king named *James* (born 1599, died 1625) was also a *Stuart*...and he did love the men! Many of them. Our boy Nicholas Galitzine plays one of his lovers, George Villiers, in the Sky series "Mary & George", in fact! This and the fact that he is played by Stephen Fry, the Elder Statesman of British Gays, as well as the film's king being much less homophobic & cold and more concerned with Henry's well-being than the book's queen leads me to believe that the creators are hinting that the king is himself gay (or bi) and closeted. Witness that shot of the king turning away from Henry, Alex & Co, leaning over his desk...that is a man in grief over his own lifelong self-denial, and in anguish over inflicting a pain he himself knows all too well on his beloved grandson.

I read the book after I watched the movie and, it might sound cliche, but the book is so much better. And I mean SOOOOOO much better. Or maybe, not better, because the movie is great, but it has so much more depth, and so many more layers. I cried at several places, :S. Loved your reaction too

I love this movie a lot and I've been binging all kinds of reactions just to share enjoying this movie with others. I'm glad I came across your reaction. You are lovely & thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie again with you. I'm the typical middle aged, divorced, white woman that spends probably more than I should on romance books of all kinds. I can't know what young gay people must go through to have to come out or be judged purely on the color of my skin. When I see you & others like you, I want to stand up & say "well done" because it gives me hope that the world is changing for the better. I also know that there are teens out there that desperately need to see you and see that its ok to be who they are. I wish I had been more self aware when I was your age. Maybe if I had, I wouldn't have been looking at the person that was supposed to love me unconditionally but instead was demanding that I be someone I wasn't. But if I had, then I would have missed out on raising two very amazing kids who are kind, tolerant, and are putting out a lot of good out in the world. If you want a gay love story about a couple with a kid I think you will like the Japanese movie “His”. I don’t really see people talk about it much but I think it is very underrated. It really makes you feel for all of the characters. Even if you don’t make a reaction to it you should definitely watch it. 7:15

You should definitely read the book, if you liked the movie reading the book will feel like your getting a ton of bonus scenes and context. They had to cut like 1/2 of the events that take place and multiple characters in order to fit the time constraint of a 2 hour movie. There is SO MUCH more detail and events in the book. It’s also written in a way that’s very easy to digest and extremely witty and humorous. It’s a pretty fast read because it jumps from place to place and and there isn’t much “filler”. I think you would really enjoy it. There is also an audio book if you prefer those. And a bonus chapter from Henry’s POV.
Also “the new normal” is a tv show about a gay couple who are going through the surrogacy process and you might like that since you mentioned wanting to see something similar. Andrew Rannell’s in it and he is a fantastic Broadway/screen actor.
I’m sold! Let me go start reading tonight lol
