I honestly really enjoyed your reaction to this movie, and by the way, sorry if what I say bothers you, but I think you're the most beautiful man with the sexiest look I've ever seen. I send you a big hug from Buenos Aires - Argentina.
I wasn't expecting much with this (been burned way too many times with book adaptations) but was ready to bawl my eyes out when they started dancing (kept it together, though). The sex scene was done really well, wasn't exploitive or fetishized. Instead was intimate, romantic and sweet. Btw, the King is played by Stephen Fry, a gay icon irl.
Babes I think they most likely won’t but if you’re like what happens next?!?! The collectors edition included and epilogue of sorts five years into the future. Our boys dreams come true for real for real.
Oscar Wilde in 1895 was imprisoned for two years hard labor for simply being gay. (Or really, in being public enough about it.) To put this perspective, less than 100 years ago (1936 to be precise), King Edward VIII was forced by the conventions of the time to give up his throne in order to marry a divorced American women. Alan Turing, the English mathematician who was able to devise a computing machine which cracked the Nazi German code during WWII and by some accounts, was a major reason England and the Allies won WWII. However, when his homosexuality became widely known, he was chemically castrated because at the time, being gay in England was illegal. He committed suicide a few years later. When I was growing up in the 1950's, there were NO openly gay men with whom I would want to fall in love with. I would hear about such-n-such actor who was gossiped about "knowing Dorothy" (as we used to say), then I would find out they were married - I never suspected all the sham marriages in Hollywood. In the 1960's, I came across a newspaper clipping about a gay serial killer (not John Wayne Gacy), and the article had a postage-sized picture of this guy. Despite the horrible crimes he committed, he was the first guy I knew was gay and looked "normal." I carried that clipping around in my wallet for several years - he was my role model, despite how sick that was. The 1970 movie, the Boys in the Band, scandalized the world by portraying a bunch of gay guys interacting. It was dreadful because for a long time even after that, any type of LGBT relationship was saved for the villains, or led to suicide. (Yes, there were many other significant steps along the way - I'm just trying to give an overall picture of how far we've come. I am glad I'm still alive to see a movie like Red, White & Royal Blue with beautiful normal-acting guys that the audience can be rooting for, and to end happy. Thank you for your review.
I knew a lot of what you bring up in your comment, but it's still horrible to read. I am a lot younger than you, but I hope my children will live in a world that's even better than the one I grew up in. I wish you the best! And thank you for sharing.
I get that. And as a Black person, we also have a horrific history. Less than 100 years ago it was illegal for interracial marriage. I don't understand letting the fear of the pass prevent one from making a choice about their future. I feel like Henry had choices and he acted like options didn't exist. Or he doesn't even look to see what those choices could be.
“These two are so cute, what the hell!” I must have said that 800 times throughout this movie 🤣 And you’re right, I cannot imagine being a president! I’m an elected official in a town of 2500 people and that’s enough pressure 😂😂😂

I felt the chemistry was good since the beginning but it did feel rushed. However the director said they had to cut out over an hour of content and they were told they only wanted to focus on them 2 and not the other characters. Thats what affected the pace, because so much of the story is about their surroundings and their family being their main obstacle, and they took away most of the context about their surroundings and family :/
@@valentinafangirling What affected the pace was the book is 400+ pages. The movie is 2 hours long. It is physically impossible to film every page of a 400 page book and the result be a 2 hour movie...... There is a difference between wanting a longer version and expecting the impossible. The movie was great as it was.
@@donny1960 i’m not denying it. Like you, I, too, am a slow reader. And despite being halfway through the book, I didn’t finish it on time for the movie’s premiere. But I really enjoyed the movie, especially gawking at hunky handsome Taylor Zakhar Perez who plays Alex. Both leads are terrific in their respective roles. I am looking forward to watching the film again, but only until I finish the book this time. LOL. But it is interesting the see the differences and similarities between the book and movie, like Alex’s parents are divorced in the book, ‘Mom President’ has a new beaux named Leon living with her at the White House, despite being on good terms with her ex-hubby Oscar. I would’ve liked to have seen a bit more of funny Nora, but I can’t really complain about this movie. It is cute, beautifully shot, Alex and Henry’s chemistry is great, and the characters are fun to root for, even if Zahra is a stickler for her job. Yes, finish the book! The movie made some massive changes that made the ending predictable; the book is not nearly as obvious. To me, the movie’s changes took all the grit and realism out of the story. Charming and fun to watch, absolutely. But the audiobook will be on constant rotation for me more than the film will.
I did enjoy the film. My only critisism is that sometimes pacing felt off and the special effects were bad. The greenscreen when theyre ar the whitehouse, or when Alex is on stage at the conference, was sooooo bad
this movie was good but the book is unfortunately a hundred times better. just because they had to cut out quite a bit to fit it into a movie time frame and the relationship felt rushed. i wish this was made into a tv series. i think it would have been almost or just as good as the book if they did that cuz the actors did a really good job portraying the characters... such a missed opportunity! :(
I think some of the changes they made are kind of... disgusting? Like changing the antagonist from a Republican politician who sexually abused underage boys to a queer, Latino journalist who was just jealous of Henry... what the hell was that?
Great reaction. But I still get confused when the readers of the book are surprised when the pacing of a 2 hour movie is faster than a 400+ page book. If the pacing was the same from Book to Screen. It would have to be a 10 hour movie, or a miniseries...... It was not either of those. So of course the pacing had to fit the slotted time. The movie was still great.
Wouldn't a better reason to report on the topic for Miguel's article be like a misuse of government funds to fund a international romance? Isn't that the reason in the book? IDK I read it like last year but misuse of government fund would have been a way better excuse plot wise. All I'm saying.
Now I'll have to read the book! I remember the book coming out, but I heard rumblings that it was just another white cis gay romance, so I wasn't sure if I wanted to read it. Are there any non-white characters in the book? Or did the movie add non-white actors to make up for the book's lack of diversity?
wow so far two people have hated Noras hair and Percys hair in these reactions and the people who were complaining were both poc...like why so critical geez!! Be nicer. On the other hand, I loved both their hair styles.
If the POC are complaining then maybe the theme here is our people have spent enough time being broadcasted in unflattering wigs, and more care should be put towards our hair given it’s history of being neglected within the realm of media. But it doesn’t have to be that deep. The wig was just bad. It’s funny. And it’s the stylists’ fault. Let’s not do too much, friend 🙃
Your observation that Henry was in the wrong for not communicating with Alex is such a moot point that I don't even know why you made it . Henry intentionally cut off communication and purposely ghosted Alex because Henry's biggest fear is being exposed and bringing scandal to the palace He has spent his whole life acting dutifully as a royal and never intended to be in a relationship, so he has always felt isolated and alone. Alex changed his life but Henry knew they had no future because of his obligation to the throne and so he ran scared. But luckily Alex's love gave Henry the strength to stand up for himself.
None of this changes the fact that he could’ve and SHOULD’VE communicated that as soon as he started feeling that way instead of having Alex catch a flight to plead his case. We all understand he was scared. That doesn’t absolve him of the responsibility to communicate, especially when it’s regarding the person he’s in love with. So what do you mean? There’s nothing moot about what I said. I’d actually argue what you’re saying is moot. Him being scared is not a justification to ghost his man, even though we have understanding as to why he did. And that’s that on that. Stay blessed and thanks for watching ❤️

It would have to be a 10 hour movie, or a miniseries...... It was not either of those. So of course the pacing had to fit the slotted time. The movie was still great.
LETS GOOO so excited for this reaction!!!
I absolutely LOVE you! You're fucking hilarious
You’re too kind 🥹

Happy to hear! Thanks for watching 🫶🏾
This movie was so schmaltzy and cringey. I love it. And your commentary was boss. Today was a good day ...
Haha a very good day 😁👍🏾
Listen to the audio book!
Wouldn't a better reason to report on the topic for Miguel's article be like a misuse of government funds to fund a international romance? Isn't that the reason in the book? IDK I read it like last year but misuse of government fund would have been a way better excuse plot wise. All I'm saying.
this is awesome, you do you happy man!
when Alex said: Baby ;-(
Great reaction! Loved the movie!
Now I'll have to read the book! I remember the book coming out, but I heard rumblings that it was just another white cis gay romance, so I wasn't sure if I wanted to read it. Are there any non-white characters in the book? Or did the movie add non-white actors to make up for the book's lack of diversity?
There are non-white characters, yes! Shaan, Percy, Zahra, Nora (I think), and Amy (female secret service member) are all POC in the book.
@@SaidByTy That's good to hear! I'm tired of all-whyte content. Diversity in life is everything! :)
It's all about Percy
luvd the scene of redroom when the security lady walks into the redroom and their recation... wat say u
UT got her accent from ET planet
I'm trying my hardest to hate you, but you're too funny 😂😂😂
I ain’t never had a hater/fan this is crazy to me 😂😂😂
@@SaidByTy just let it happen 🤣
wow so far two people have hated Noras hair and Percys hair in these reactions and the people who were complaining were both poc...like why so critical geez!!
I loved your reaction to movie :) You are doing a great job.
