Your video worked, at the second try.... First a controller update had to run. Else, no camera click point in the DJI screen. Then the map of this place showed up!
Finding and beeping the drone standing next to the controller... It worked! Thanks a lot!

I did no use maps a lot, when I lost my mini2 in the woods I knew exactly where it was even heard it but could not locate it due to the vegetation, looks like my maps worked, my eyes did not ... she is still there!

Great video. I don't use the RC Controller, but the RC N1, with a dedicated phone. I noticed that I don't have the maps, unless I pre load them, as you're explaining. I'm also finding that the maps disappear after a while. I've never connected to my cellular data (hotspot) on my phone, but will try to do this now as the maps really help me a great deal when navigating around the area.

Definitely important to remember. Often a quick flight we think, I'm not goingbto set the hotspot up right now. If something goes badly, the maps are a lifesaver. Question. I know Find My Drone puts a dot on a blank screen, because I've seen it. Couldn't you just grab WiFi THEN, and fill in the map? Curious now. May have some testing to do! 🤔

Since it's so essential you would think DJI would give us a more deliberate way of doing this. it should work like caching offline maps in google where you can select and download the area needed.
Yes indeed. I do believe there maybe a dongle to use in the future but these methods do work at the moment 👍

start...
That’s strange. However it has happened to me before. Go into the compass calibration and hit calibrate. That should fix it.
@@nobby-green I know, but in order to calibrate the RC compass I have to fuck up the magnetic field with neodymium magnets, otherwise it won't let me calibrate. And doing that every time is a pain. Hoping for a firmware update when this will be fixed.. Thanks for good videos, I'll keep on following. Best regards/Johan.
@@TrueFisp112 you don’t need to do that. Even tho it says calibration normal it seems to work. Must be a bug and yes new firmware hopefully will sort it 👍

Hi Refie. You can still download the maps as in the later video offline maps. but it will only download a small portion. Check it out if you haven’t seen it. 👍 thanks 🙏

Great video, One question, how many maps will the controller hold? Why not cache the entire British Isles?
You would have quite a few maps. I suppose it’s possible but you probably wouldn’t use them all 👍 thanks 🙏

Thanks a lot! But caching upfront means that you should not turn off the controller? Otherwise all maps are lost? Or are the maps cached inside the controller even when you turn the controller off?
No. It worked fine for me. Also every time I revisit a place they show up. Remember the rc does not automatically connect to Wi-Fi when starting up and disconnects when you take off if you are connected to your hotspot 👍
The map is saved in the SD card on the RC

1. What map does DJI use, isit google or something else.
2 i assumewhen youaew out that you hotspot the rc toyour phone.
Hi Steven it’s not Google maps. Yes hotspot when on location then the full map will be shown. 👍

i am not sure how you cache the terrain maps on the controller. i am using my iphone as a hot spot. thank you
You don’t need to cache them if you are using your phone as a hotspot. You can pre load them before hand 👍
I have a few questions and since you know about the RC hopefully you can help. I have the Mini 3 Pro and RC. I’ve had it for a week. When you take off does the RC announce “The Home Point has been updated”? Also, when you take a photo do you hear the shutter sound? And when you start to record a video and stop do you hear an audible sound from the RC? I’ve turned my volume up and down and have no sounds at all.
Hi Nate In answer to all you’re questions yes you should hear sounds for all of those unless you are recording audio via the usb host. Sounds like you could have a faulty RC. I would contact DJI 👍

Say I wont have WiFi where im going so I do the steps you described while Im at home with WiFi. Do I need to have the controller turned on the entire time while I am transporting it to where I will fly or does the map stay in the cache even when I turn it off?
If it stays in the cache, how many days does it stay there?

@@Falconurbex you need to zoom in on the map. Eventually you will get a box that will show what your map will download
Was out in a remote area and didn't cache maps for the area (did on my MP3... forgot to since getting the MP4) and on way back it ran down to 15% and then forced a landing??? Thought I had till like 5 or 10%? When I went to `find my drone' it had nothing... blank map. Not even basic map... nothing. No cell tower signal either - so couldn't turn cell phone into a hotspot. Just nothing but a white screen. All it would do is blink lights and start beeping... so had to rely on my memory as to approx where it went down...1.5 km away. Took abit but found it.... have now cached maps for the area... Can one adjust the %age before it auto-lands?
This is why it’s important to make sure that the home point is recorded and you check the map. It’s the first thing I check when taking off. Unfortunately you can’t adjust any percentages for forced landings. And at 1.5km out it could have been struggling with wind on the return. I wouldn’t fly that far out without checking battery levels. 👍
@@nobby-green I have watched other users who went into forced auto-land and it didn't do it until below 10%. Unsure why mine went into that at 15%?? And I think I didn't make it back cause I came back in Sport mode.... cause the wind didn't change all that much. Guess it eats alot more power than N or C.
@@rangerrick8220 yep. There’s your answer. Sports mode will eat your battery especially if it’s low. At least you managed to find it 👍
Mine shows world map but not the uk so how do i get it to show uk map its all foreign countries and no england map

Maps are very outdated. In my area at least 6 yrs old. Chatted with DJI but nothing advised as to how often they are updated nor when the next is scheduled.

Nobody really knows how offline maps work. Even DJI customer support can't give clear answers. Do this do that and that's it, Really great explanation, yeah right.
Haha. Offline maps are different. They only allow you to zoom in to a very small area. Best off to tether your phone to the controller. 👍
how can you use your phone as a hotspot when dji wifi is turned off automatically when you start flying?
You hotspot to the phone before taking off. Once the map loads it’s cached 👍 or you can reconnect to Wi-Fi after taking off but you won’t need to. Hope that helps 😊
So If im going In a Carrabein Island where there's no wifi , I can fly my drone?
You would have to check with the authorities over there 👍

I’ve not actually timed it but whenever I revisit a site they are there. Hope that helps? 👍
hi i got the mini 3 pro today and even if i connected to my home's wifi, the RC still shows no GPS... is it because i live in downtown Toronto and the GPS signal has been blocked for drone?.... thanks!
i wouldnt of thought the GPS would be blocked? did you have the drone on too?
@@nobby-green yes i did and the screen just shows no GPS (zero signal...) perhaps i should bring it to a park to test... i just got the drone at noon today and watching all kinds youtube video to learn how to use it~ haha

Yes you do. This video is around 9 months old before offline maps was introduced and there is a later version on the channel 👍 thanks 🙏

Why don't you show users how terrible the RC Satellite maps are by zooming in some. At 6:19 you call them terrain maps & show them zoomed out. But zoom in and see how rubbish they are. Big fail on DJIs part by changing the Sat map provider for the RC from google to maptiler.
