Lyrics:
Oh I wish I was in the land of cotton
Old times there are not forgotten
Look away, look away, look away Dixieland
Oh I wish I was in Dixie, away, away
In Dixieland I take my stand to live and die in Dixie
Because Dixieland, that's where I was born
Early Lord one frosty morning
Look away, look away, look away Dixieland

When this was played in the opening of the film, tears ran down my face. The power and tragedy behind that voice. Elvis is a hell of a film
Oh my god i had chills it made the opening scene stand out so much like thats exactly how elvis fame was.
it was pretty powerful
It wasn’t on the opening it was on half movie
@@licaelia11 no it was in the opening, rewatch the movie if you don’t believe me.
With that powerful opening, I already knew the movie was going to be amazing! It gave me goosebumps
Sounds like a national anthem on its own.
It was
@@theylivewesleep4570 part of it
It really does! I don't care what age you are how can you not like Elvis. I'm 40 and love him..such a talent! My dad who's 79 grew up in the 1950's in Jackson, Tennessee not far from Memphis where Elvis made his start. His next door neighbor was Wink Martindale who was the first to person to interview Elvis on his radio show. Wink and Elvis became lifelong friends. Many of you probably know that Wink became a legendary game show host and he's actually in the Guiness Book for most different game shows hosted. Needless to say my dad loves Elvis too! He remembers local preachers talking about the evils of rock and roll. Preachers all across the country were saying the same thing. Wow how far we've come from that time!
I totally agree 🦋
@@jordanvantreese4005 I’m 27 and love him!
The US has had 46 presidents and 1 king, that one king is Elvis Presley
Stolen comment
Wait I’ve seen this before
Sim!!
Two kings, in order to not star a second civil war and this us a very original abswer
44 presidents.
"Before Elvis, there was nothing." - John Lennon
Correct !
Frank:
Si. Por ejemplo Sister Rosetta ó Frank Sinatra. Pero es verdad que no lo llevaron al nivel que lo llevó él.
Whatever.
The greatest entertainer this world has ever known !
This is so beautiful, it gives me the chills and I’m not even American.
Elvis is the best and always will be!
That's for sure Elvis this song is so emotionally it is a lovely song long live the Elvis songs forever always
Always ❤️
Jesus is the best
@Sam facts of course he he's, he's always the best human to ever live
@@Tennessee17yes he’s one of the best and important prophets (God’s messenger)
Gives me the chills. Elvis is called The King for a reason. There will never be another like him. Rest in peace Elvis. Thank you. You live on.
I will sing this song on my birthday next week. Love you Elvis Presley. The Lords truth is definitely marching ooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnn!!!!
AMEN! To that!
@2:40 "But all my trials Lord,.....soon be over" You can tell it's really sung from his heart.
He knew he was dying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@sherylllynn2710 si, lo sabia y como todo hombre mortal en la tierra sin miedo acepto su destino...
The one thing I love about Elvis is when he was called by our country, he served. He was at the top of his game. He didn't dodge out of anything. I think most people forget he was a veteran.
Why i picked the army over any branch
He is really a man with integrity and honor
They were going to put him in jail for lewd conduct , this was the choice he was given ..
Service or Jail..
Elvis did NOT chose the military. It was jail or the US Army!!
@@joinjen3854 I mean he did take the army route nonetheless
Such a beautiful song. No more words can be said..
No one on earth will ever replace Elvis no matter if the world existed for 1 million years ! ONE OF A KIND for eternity 💚
Agreed
None but compliments brother
@Kevin J he has a brother ?
I agree. Honestly I had never heard this song from elvis until the other day it was in a elvis documentary I was watching and instantly fell in love with it
I was fortunate enough to see him twice live in Las Vegas at the Hilton. Walked out with tears in my eyes, he was great, one hell of an entertainer. Our girls loved him too. Just enjoy what we still have of him and knock of the negativity!!
you are so locky
I grew up in Vegas but was a few years too young to see his Vegas shows. The first time I saw him was the Hawaii special... me and 1 billion people worldwide. I think that was 1 out of 4 people who were alive then watched him. I didn't know before that special what it was about Elvis that was so compelling. I sure found out when I watched. He was positively charismatic.
I'm forever an Elvis fan. Thanks to the Elvis biopic I'm loving his music for Elvis Presley didn't die but went home.
Must have been amazing xx
Oh I wish I was in the land of cotton
Old times there are not forgotten
Look away, look away, look away Dixieland
For in Dixieland, I was born
Early Lord one frosty morning
Look away, look away, look away Dixieland
Glory, glory hallelujah
Glory, glory hallelujah
Glory, glory hallelujah
His truth is marching on
So hush little baby
Don't you cry
You know your daddy's bound to die
But all my trials Lord, will soon be over
Glory, glory, hallelujah
His truth is marching on
His truth is marching on
What does the song mean ?
@@CP-vi2rm its about the US Civil War
@@CP-vi2rm How I understood it, and what I’ve read elsewhere is that it begins with Dixie, of course the song of the Deep South. Then Battle Hymn of the Republic comes in which was the anthem of the Northern soldiers and then finally the resolution of the Civil War- people have died to resolve the conflict but “Glory, Glory Hallelujah, His Truth is marching on” reflecting that the truth of freedom and man’s dignity won out. It took me a long, long time to step back and take a closer look at the lyrics and fully appreciate how profound this song actually is. Regrettably I think that many understand it as some racist anthem when it was so much more, the opportunity for healing after a bitter conflict. IMHO. Sadly in 2022 our societal conflicts are on the news and in the streets nightly.
They should rerelease this song coupled with “If I Can Dream” which Presley recorded in honor of Martin Luther King Jr after his assassination.
Elvis has NOT left the building, and he never will!
Elvis didn't die, he just went home.
@The Britt Sisterz he went home
He never will 👏👏👏
Correct
he was in all other building allright back in his day
I can not get over his voice. If you know anything about singing, his range, the notes he hits AND holds! 🤯 ❤
Actually his range is not big deal, but his other qualities are unbelievable
@@PicadorCriminal I disagree.
@@LISH632 Not for being disagree is not true
@@PicadorCriminalyou’re insane his vocal range is ridiculous. Listen to this and then blue moon sounds like 2 different singers
@@philly4life It's just unmatched
Could listen to this on repeat and it would never get old...

Yeah - beautiful hymn
When Elvis sings this song it lifts me up to another place!

Yeah!!!
Epic song. Such a powerful beautiful voice. Get chills every time I listen to it. Simply amazing.
Makes me sad to know how he was treated by those that should have taken care of him. He was a cashcow for so many people.
I’m usually very skeptical about biopics, but the opening of Elvis filled me with so much excitement and instantly reconnected me with my love and adoration for elvis
This is the national anthem of usa
Of its own
Please stand for the anthem
Right❤
For the confederates yes
@@kgbcommitteeforstatesecuri3315 wtf respect the man and the south that was bout 150 yrs ago
Elvis is the best voice I’ve ever heard, God given talent
There Is No Denying If America Has A King He Is America's True King.
Long Live Ze 👑
It's hard to imagine another male singer singing the soft parts so purely and so tenderly, then hitting that final note with such power.
Elvis truly had a voice that God gifted him. The range and pathos of his voice is not natural.
This definitely kicks ass! Get it?
Oh now I get it
I am surprised at the negativity. This is a fantastic combination, the orchestra has huge presence and clarity. A beautiful and powerful combination.
Glory glory Elvis!
It is so great--it makes me want to cry
Where is the.negativity ?
@@shyba2011 The negativity is this in short, a lot of people today (mostly in the USA) take offence to the Civil War era of our history saying it is mostly racist, they only teach 4 things of the Civil War era in schools here today, 1. Lincoln freeing the slaves 2. The Gettysburg Address 3. Lincoln's Assassination and 4. President Ulysses S. Grant being the 7th out of 12 presidents so far to have the rank of General and also become president of America, the Democratic party in US is ashamed and is blaming the "not wanting to free the slaves" thing on the republicans *_WHEN THAT IS A LOAD OF BULLSHIT AND THEN SOME!!!!!!_* The party that Abraham Lincoln was a part of *_IS THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!!!!!!!!!_* The democratic party says that it was *_THEM_* that freed the slaves which is false in actuality it's the other way around the democracy majority of the Confederacy was the *_DEMOCRATS!!!!!!_* The democrats wanted to keep slavery, the republicans wanted to *_FREE_* them and now the jackasses wanna blame it on Ole Dixie saying that flag is racist, when it's not.
you know music, i agree. most people are slow and it's up to people such as you to help every last one of them.
Samuel Mauldin you are correct, sir. The south was paying 75% of the nations freight it was about states rights in the beginning. And slavery was part of that.
Imagine if he sung the national anthem at a superbowl or any sporting event in general
Best song Elvis had done. Hands down. No question about it.
For me it's If I Can Dream.
Agreed.
I admit I’m a sucker for Jailhouse Rock
I love this song, but The Wonder of You has always been a stand out one for me. Right up there with Can't Help Falling in Love
If I can dream
Whoever did orchestra arrangement is a pure genius.. It's so good! Elvis made the whole thing great of course.
This man , although we have hundreds of
singers that I admire and love to listen to, Elvis is in a league of his own, his
voice is my favorite.
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Who praises this king in 2021?

If there is anyone that hasn't seen this song paired with Stone Mountain Laser show, wow, find it on here and please enjoy!!!
I heard it for the first time over adult nude interperative dance, with a man born without arms
I think I would have liked to have learned this song from a laser show instead.
I have, because that’s my hometown and it is an indelible memory of my childhood growing up, with Elvis singing the trilogy
As a veteran this takes me back to my partner s funeral when he was being laid to rest
I am so,so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine the pain you're going through. May he rest in everlasting peace, and may your heartache be quelled. Thank you so much for your service!

A misspelling is nice.
Elis Presly? Who that?
It's crazy how this piece can make feel anyone nostalgic of America... Even non Americans 😂
The best song.Very touching.I love you Elvis....FOREVER
Of ALL the songs this man did, this one is THE BEST, HANDS DOWN!!!!!
“An American Trilogy” (1972) was recorded live from an Elvis Presley concert. A medley uniting three traditional folk songs, “Dixie,” “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “All My Trials,” in a symbolic effort to bring America together.
The recording was taken from the evening show by the superstar on June 10, 1972 at the Madison Square Garden, New York City. ONE MAIN EVENT❗️
Priscilla Presley cited this and “If I Can Dream” (1968) as her two favorite Elvis pieces.
WORTH A LISTEN… OR TEN‼️ 💙🇺🇸💚
Always loved, never forgotten, forever missed will you remain, Elvis Aaron Presley (1935 - 1977)… 🌹

So hush little baby, don't you cry 😢 You know your daddy's going to die..." Listened to this laying in the grass with the warm sun on the countryside with my best-friend and soulmate true artist like me. Tears running down my face... I did not know why this song spoke so much to me... It killed me when I heard the lyrics, my father died unexpectedly one week earlier. He was my Best Friend all through my childhood, trusted him more than anyone 😢 Feel that he's still with me and my daughter, though. All his empathy, sense of humour, intelligence, it died with him, but it continues in us who knew him 💙💙💙🦋💙 Peace and love to all the free spirits out there ❤ 🙏🏻🌻🩷💙
God blessed Elvis with a pure gold voice. Never tire of his music.💖🙏💖
Powerful, & meaningful song.
There will never be another. A once miracle from heaven died too soon.

It does not get more classic than this!!!!
The crescendo of Battle Hymn of the Republic at the start of "Elvis" had me in goosebumps.

My friend, Elvis.
Glory, Glory for all of us and for Elvis forever
Just brings tears! And makes your heart heavy! Live on Elvis in your songs! For us, your still here! No one else even comes close to his talent!
It's so cool how so many people impersonate Elvis, and do a pretty good job mimicking his sound; but then the man himself sings and can't be mistaken.
What a voice 🙏

Gonna be played at my funeral, too.
Great choice, I'm sorry for your loss.
Mackenzie Watkins spelled PaPa....
SAnderson MIRROR You're wrong. Paw Paw is correct for her. They actually pronounced it 'Paw,' like a dog's foot. Not 'Pa.'
Andrea Reynolds pa can be pronounced in a number of different ways.
He sings this way because be believes this way. Amazing how voice and heart harmonize like that in one soul!🔥
