Just a heads up to anyone purchasing this rig, the battery hinge now comes with 2 female ends so you'll need 15mm male extension pieces to lock the battery plate into your 15mm rods.

The Zeiss lenses are great! I have the 35mm 2.4 too and it has a good sharpness at f2.4. These are original Zeiss lenses made in the former GDR. So they are technically real Zeiss lenses. There also was another Carl Zeiss factory in West Germany after the 2.World War, where for example the Planar lenses or the lenses for the Contax cameras were built. After the cold war the two Zeiss companies were reunited.
had the same experience with recording BRAW where it just felt like the highlights were horrible - but realized you have to expose differently for BRAW and started using false color on the video assist and I was surprised to see how much the highlights were clipping even when they looked alright on the monitor - so I exposed to the highlights and I actually am really loving the image that's coming out of it - FLOG2 is still great but for anyone looking to use BRAW, this was something I found interesting

That’s tough, I’ve been slowly getting Zeiss lenses both Jena and Classics/Contax and they’re really competitive with modern options. I don’t think you could go wrong either way but it depends how you shoot, like you said you wanted more wide options and the newer Zeiss lenses are the way to go there but there is a point of the vintage funk of the Jenas. Good luck with that decision but good on you for starting out with some of the best vintage lens options and for great deals too! Personally, I’m looking at getting a set of ZF.2s but potentially mixing with some of the newer Milvus line for lenses that really benefited from the updates, however, it just depends as I could save up and go full Milvus to keep things simple, we’ll see.

Amazing video, like always! I’m just very curious as why you changed your BMPCC for the Fuji. I got a BMPCC for the RAW recording. But I’m temped by the XH2S (and the 15 Stops in Flog2) - I have a XT3 and have shot some beautiful things. Big fan of Fuji. Might switch back. Would love to know about what made you decide to get rid of the BMPCC.
Great video with so many good ideas! One question: Do you ever use a gimbal? I’m a still photographer just expanding into video using XH2 and XH2s and I’m blown away by your steady footage with the handle-based rig. I’ve also built one and for me it’s a very slow learning process trying to get steady footage from it.

I also bought a fujifilm xh2s. But tell me, where did you get the motivation to buy an FF lens and use it with a speedbooster? If you buy 23 mm, then there will be 50 mm on the crop. Why overpay if the picture doesn't change? Here are my thoughts, but what if a beam of light (concentrated) falls on the matrix and thus your matrix wears out more (magnifying glass effect)? After all, the manufacturer did not create such complex systems for the consumer to use FF lenses? If we take priority in lenses, what would an FF camera buy? Please explain what your choice is.

Thanks so much! Favorite native fuji lens for video would probably have to be either the 16mm 1.4 or 18mm 1.4! For a zoom lens you can’t go wrong with the 18-55. New sigma zooms for x mount are all great aswell 👌

I would love to upgrade my xt4 to the xh2s but I fear the huge problem fujis have with overheating I shoot weddings and rolling for long periods of time causes the fujis to overheat often
i think sigma art zoom lenses are also good for cinematography, there is a special cinema kit from pchood but for aps-c sensor. just as good planar T from zeiss

I like your video, it’s very informative. Can I make one criticism, when you are speaking to camera, the rig on the desk in front of you, is lost in shadow. It’s impossible to see it as a complete entity, I wondered whether this was intentional, but concluded that it made no sense. Conclusion; Even with my screen brightness turned up 100% , it’s dim all over the frame. The murky moody lighting doesn’t work in this situation and you need to some form of lighting. Otherwise a good well paced and narrated piece.
hey man thanks for this video! just got the xh2s and have pretty much the same setup - this feels like a dumb question but I can't figure out how to just get video to the blackmagic video assist but still record internally - when I set it up to output video to the monitor, I no longer can record internally - my video assist is updated and I can get it to record braw externally - but agree with you that the quality is off with braw externally so I just wanna use the monitor but record internally - thanks!
nm just figured it out! for anyone else looking for the same answer - Menu > HDMI OUTPUT SETTING > HDMI OUTPUT INFO DISPLAY > ON > make sure RAW OUTPUT SETTING is off
