This was the first big trip for our GU series 4 factory TD42. Didn’t miss a beat, what a waste of time packing recovery gear lol and considering my back is shot, I was so surprised how comfy the factory seats actually are. It was an epic trip and can’t wait to do it again. She isn’t my daily driver and today was the first time in 5 weeks I’ve driven her. Turn the key, glow the plugs and fire her up, always puts a smile on my face
Videography is stunning. Landscape is amazing, even after the fire disaster in December last year. We better get used to the bush fires getting broader and more frequent since we are unwilling to give up on fossil fuels in a hurry. On the bright side, our forests are tuned to bush fires. I took a few trips out to Caan River after the Ash Wednesday fires and witnessed the regeneration from the early days of smouldering logs all the way through to stunning regrowth and the trees sprouting new leaves, new saplings and thick undergrowth within a year of the fires. I wouldn't have believed the resilience of the forest if I hadn't visited the same spots several times over that time period. Whether they can survive several bush-fires in a row is something we are destined to find out it seems.
Glad the fire wasn't too hot but it always grows back. Even after logging, it comes back. You'll be struggling to find natural untouched forests because they always grow back. People can't tell it was logged years ago because it always........... Can't get rid of those Arum Lillies though.

great video mate interesting thing i was once told that the lookout area and that area around there with the amazingly straight tall trees came about as a result of selective logging and thinning out of saplings over a long period of time the seective logging alowed the trees space to grow straight up and not produce deviating branches to compete for sun light i am not sure if this is true or not but caught my interest when i heard this
We were totally amazed that Conto was saved. Thankfully all our camping gear was saved along with the campsite. The fire fighters did such an amazing job. When we were sitting in Augusta watching the fire almost explode across the horizon, we were convinced that everything in the path of that fire was gone. We came back down to pack up our gear just after the fire and the area around Conto was just wiped out. I still don't know how the firies managed to keep the fire out of the campsite.
My uncle works for the fire fighters in Margaret river they said they stopped a lot of the fires by starting new ones burning the fuel off before it was hit by the blaze.

It’s incredible to see Conto’s spared with everything decimated around it. The wind changing help too. They all did a tremendous job.
