@@TheMultib4eyedy that was the point tho, the original conversation that sparked all of this was about Lupe wanting Royce to rap and prove he's one of the greatest; lyrically. Plus they are friends (or were friends) so Royce tried to keep it on a friendly competition type of thing. Take a couple shots, nothing too personal and just focus on rapping. Then Lupe drops this and it's on some straight diss track stuff and it sounds like stuff he's just been waiting to say to him for months. At least that's how I see it. You can totally tell Royce was rapping like they were still gonna be friends after this, Lupe wasn't. and a friendly competition is how i thought this was gonna go as well. But idk. This is a battle Stevie. Initially it was about who's the best but it progressed into them doing some kind of battle and Royce told Lupe "get in the ring" so it/was a battle thing
Seems like some sort of misunderstanding by someone, or both. Royce rapped to show he's a better rapper and Lupe rapped to take Royce head off - they both succeeded.
But how is Royce trying to show us he is a better rapper than Lupe when Lupe did it ages ago and without a "diss" track? Royce is just a show off, Lupe is past that, Lupe is past Dumb it down and Failure, he now is Dinosaurs or Sledom, he has transcended to a higher form of art.
@@Portthefirst what? Lupe literally dumbed it down in this verse. He had 4 or 5 good lines in here with depth. He did a lot of simplistic rhymes. Royce did the complex stuff. Not to mention flow and cadence.

@@Portthefirst What? Lupe starting this shit by continuously and shamelessly plugging whatever stupid rap competition and trying to call out Royce every other day.
@@Portthefirst I feel you, and I think Lupe is a better rapper/lyricist in general. But just taking these two tracks, aside from anything either one has done in the past, I stand by my point. Royce out-rapped Lupe and Lupe had a better diss. Now it's just a matter of interpretation, do you think this was to see who could rap better? or who could disrespect the other more? It's very interesting to see all of this develop either way.
Got damn!!! I hate to say Royce took a L. But he did here. Love and Respect them both, Lupe was all in. When MCs go, this Lupe is what you want. Royce had a lot of Prime Bars for listeners of lyricist, but not battle bars. Love both of them, sht won’t change. Craftsmen always have love.
Damn. "But my impressions, apprentice (talking to royce), your penmanship has the fingerprints of a gimmick (em)...and (its) affecting the intimacy of impressions of that dude, that you're friends with... Holy shit. Lupe is slept on. This dude said, "all that fancy penship you are doin just sounds like em. Get your own sound." On one hand. He's right. But on the other hand...dudes been doin that for years. He's just the first to get big. Royces pen is nice. But Lupe. Lupe is slept on.
Just to let everyone know. When Lupe said, "...I spit your verse to get immersed inside of my enemy and to remind you, I gotta go through you, just to get to me... " Lupe literally spit Royce's Lambda verse on " Throw Some D's On It" beat before dropping this. It's like 2mins long and it's heat cause he freestyle the back half of it.
If Lupe writes it’s gonna be dangerous af we know he can do what Royce does technically we’ve heard it before so it’ll come down to who has better punches and who’s more creative and I just think Lupes slickness runs deeper
let's keep it a hundred: Lupe's "mural" reaction is the only reaction that bodied Stevie as he was only able to get through half of ituntil he threw in the towel.
That’s the thing about rap beef it not the most lyrical track or track that has the better production that wins, it’s who has the most scathing damaging disses. Lupe just had way more of that in his track than Royce, that’s why he wins this round.
There's no question that Lupe had the more damaging diss, and that's coming from a Royce fan. The only reason that I think it's being questioned is cuz of all the talk about "best rapper" going on beforehand. Royce out rapped Lupe but I think he has to respond with some more damaging bars, otherwise most people are gonna give this one to Lupe , however if it comes down to bets rapper and checking boxes. Royce wins.
@@jdtmjb the problem is...This all is clearer a misunderstanding and egotistical ish on both sides. I get both perspectives. Lupe responded the way he did cause of Royce's passive aggressiveness. What I mean by that is that they been talking about whose the best for weeks. Lupe said, ok prove it. Royce then proceeded to, in essence, dismiss Lupe's call to just rap...then Lupe brought up EOdub and Royce still dismissed it. I do think Lupe got a bit heated cause Lupe CAN and HAS checked boxes...but Royce's response made it SEEM like he was dismissing Lupe's ability. Royce's last live was pretty much asking Mickey factz what made mural so great and that it wasn't anything...even though many ppl hold mural to a high standard. But it's like Royce thinks mural is Lupe's best song when he actually has MANY more better than mural. So Royce kinds belittled Lupe and Lupe pretty much caught feelings. Also, Royce said Lupe wasn't a killer and also he was a bi**h. Lupe pretty much was like " ok them fighting words, I'm not backing down to you". Sure Royce had a more technical song, but I don't understand how his stance and demeanor to Lupe , as skilled and as respected as an artist Lupe is, wouldn't evoke a more passionate response when Royce said, you don't have the guts to come at me and you ain't worthy. I'm a Lupe fan but imo....royces position and statements and demeanor led Lupe to think "aggressive come at the neck" and Royce was stuck in "display technical ability". Either way...their comradery seems broken .... Both raps were dope for what they were but they both handle things way different and probably benefit more from being fans of each other on the sidelines rather than buddy buddy
It's a rap battle. The last live that sparked all this Royce kept saying Lupe cant do this. Kept saying Lupe ain't a killer. Everyone know Lupe can do the rapppity rap. He even showcased it in Steve Jobs a little but said he ain't here for that. He even named it SLR 3 1/2 because he knew he wasnt going to the moon with it. Also probably a double entendre cause he released it in 3 1/2 hours while Royce took MONTHS. Lupe was showing not just Royce but Mook and everyone else saying he cant do the disrespectful battle rap shit that he could and he could flip something out this fast while everyone else gotta prepare for a hot minute. Royce did a masterclass in rapping but the bars against Lupe was light. Anyone saying Royce got it is ridiculous. Lupe said he ain't caring bout the technical nonsense. Rap battle it's how many shots you hit. Directs and scathing lines. Royce threw a few jabs and mad a song showing what we know the both of them can already do. Lupe made a diss track dissecting that mans sould and with rebuttals to a lot of the shit Royce said on his. Came at him on many levels while still having some technicality. Same shit with drake and pusha t.
I ain’t gon’ cap whatsoever, but I literally had NO fuckin clue Lupe was this nice. I think maybe I just never gave his content an opportunity, I just always looked at him as someone who made some radio stuff, and then disappeared lol. Looks like I got some music to go catch up on right quick, cuz dude sounded good right here
If you're young than it makes sense he was never on your radar. He's not in todays class of artists he's like 40 or something now. He was big in the early 2000's and cemented his name in the hiphop/rap game from years ago. Check out his album "Food and Liquor" came out in 2006 I think and it also features one of his best records Kick Push. Thank me later. Student of the game forever. Be well Taylor.
The Mixtape the original SLR is on is a good place to start it’s called “Friend of the People I Fight Evil” Lupe dropped it the same year as his radio shit album that was fucked by the label and is his worst work “Lasers”. The mixtape was free and what he actually wanted to do around that time/he wanted to let everyone know he still had it so he went extra ill in obvious ways.
Check Lupe out man. He's not for everybody and I get it, there's no reason for him to he on your radar but Lupe's most commercially successful album is the album he hated the most. The industry wanted him to dumb down his music and Lupe just couldn't conform to that. Once he got away from his label, he dropped Testsuo and Youth which is lyrically crazy. It's not for radio. Also check out his first few albums, food & liquor etc
Respect. I was too young when I heard kick push. And I was too young at the time - my brain wasn't ready. What a feeling it is to go through an artist like Lupe and hear what he said with new ears
"Ya see... it takes WEEKS." 🤣 🤣 🤣 If you've been listening in on Lu and Royce's convos over the past year (since COVID started), Lu's piece is everything. But, if anything has Royce shivering right now, it's the time it took Lu to respond. There's no getting around it. It was just incredibly fast. Imagine if Lu took one more day.... or even just 2 more hours. 😬 Lu didn't even mix his vocal down... lol. That's why the mix sounds like trash with the volume all messed up. Ridiculous... in more ways than one.
First round to Lu because he was able to respond DIRECTLY to what Royce said. This is battle rap, Royce shit was filled with too many empty bars. The fact the Lu rapping at about a 4 ability-wise is astounding.
I'm a big Royce fan, was never that big on Lupe. I know Lupe is more complex but as a total package he's usually boring. BUT Lupe buried Royce on this. Looking at the chat, all these people saying "if Royce wanted to he would..." well he didn't. I don't care about what he would or could do, I want to I hear it. I'm all for bars above everything, but Royce's track wasn't entertaining as a diss track. I'm looking for a battle, not just a bar count. If it's not directed toward the opponent, it's a miss.
Facts and the fact that Royce told Mickey that Marshall, Thought and Crook could come for his head shows that Royce isn’t relying on himself solely in this
I don't get how everyone is saying Lupe got the first round... Lupe's first round was that freestyle. Royce responded to that. That was round 1. This is Lupe starting round 2
If you knew anything about horrocore style which is where Royce, Eminem and some other rappers developed their style from you will know that to pull off what you just said you have to be a master at it.
Probably not but it somehow reminds me of when Jay underestimated Nas, cos I was watching some other stuff where Royce says Lupe doesn't look like that kinda person, he doesn't look like a challenge
That's why I think Lupe went more personal than technical. Lupe can get in his technical bag... Fans know this. But the way I think he interpreted it was that Royce pretty said Lupe has no balls to step in the ring and Lupe caught offense.... Not in a bad way but usually when someone says you can't fight ( even though you can)... Well then you step up to the plate and fight. Add that to the front for weeks they talked about whose the best and Lupe was the first to say, prove it. No one proved it...then that was when Royce questioned Lupe's authority/ability to even be in the same breath as him as "the best". I definitely can see how this all got interpreted on both sides.... But clearly they both were on different pages.... Imo 2 dope tracks for what they were tho
@@andrewogundele330 this shit wouldn’t have got to this level if Royce didn’t completely disrespect Lupe in front of the world in that live and call lu a bitch. Dude was outta line for that, you don’t do shit like that to a grown man let alone to someone you call a friend.

It is a freestyle with punching, anyone who has every freestyle against anyone knows it. If shit gets to Lupe a Mural level diss will come and shut these clowns down.
We shouldnt have to “imagine” - the reason we have to “imagine” is because he wanted to stay out of Royce’s lane and pretend he was free styling. Lupe is dope but Lupe basically bowed out, that’s how I see it at least.
I think Lupe won that round. I didn't know Lupe could flow like that. I remember him from Kick Push and I liked that song so I'm not throwing shots. That's the No. 1 problem with the radio, real MC's don't get no air time so you forget about them. It's not because I don't like mix tapes, I'm not in a area where their easy to come by.

There’s 2 scenarios this plays out as (and with Royce & Buddens recent Live I think it’ll be the 2nd): 1. Thank you! It’s a battle! Royce was talking about the most random things. Sounds like an unreleased song that he just added some bars toward Lupe.

Seeing the difference in reaction to the two disses is so fun :D
@@JoaoLuisLopes10 lol, you ain't following me properly. let's keep it a hundred: Lupe's "mural" reaction is the only reaction that bodied Stevie as he was only able to get through half of ituntil he threw in the towel.
Facts. I'm still waiting for part 2🤣 🤣
Royce took a shot, Lupe emptied the clip.
No its not
Disagree respectfully
@@niccomakk why?
Facts i like Royce more but he got bodied

And check Drogas Wave, heavy lyrical ability and content. Lu has always checked all boxes

Not in a bad way but usually when someone says you can't fight ( even though you can)... Well then you step up to the plate and fight.
Add that to the front for weeks they talked about whose the best and Lupe was the first to say, prove it.
