    My uncle has a golf 2.0tdi and he had a similar issue. Even when he changed the thermostat the car still wouldn't heat up properly. The dsg / s tronic cars have a secondary thermostat on the gearbox near the gearbox oil cooler. The VW dealership didn't even know about this. After we changed this it was completely fine. Just thought I would put that out there if it could help anyone

    Helpful video! Would the car not hitting temperature contribute to DPF light coming on? I've had my throttle body changed and a coolant flush but the car just won't hit temperature at all, think thermostat will be next to get replaced.

      You should also see an increase in mpg. My SEAT 2.0tdi would get 70mpg on a 2 hour drive at 50/60mph roads. But for years could get no higher than 60mpg. (No temp guage) 6 years later, during diagnostics for another reason, i noticed the temp wouldn't go higher than 65°c, but raise when stood still (no air passing through radiator). Fitted a new thermostat (same as this video) and what absolute C#NT it is. And broke my dipstick in process. My MPG went straight back to how it used to be 70+.

  • @Steve-nu8xt

    Just to say unhelpfully you can take the thermostat out without undoing anything on a 1.6 Petrol. You can’t get up hills but you can take out the thermostat in 5 minutes.

      I got a A3 140 TDI from 2011 and had no big problems, 180000km. Did timing belt last year with my wifes sisters man, took some time but not very difficult really. Worst part was the tensioner for The belt to alternator and AC. Now I have to change termostat because sometimes temperature drop when weather is cold.

      Hi m8 I'm about to change my thermostat what important steps has he left out?

    • @Rasle500
      @Rasle500 4 месяца назад

      @@user-cn8sw9pv7x The important steps where he loosens and tightens the 2 bolts that hold the thermostat housing on the engine. The left one is a nightmare to get to, make sure you have plenty of time when you start. It took a lot of effort (carefully with a crowbar) to make enough room for the thermostat housing to come free of the smaller pipe on the right (remember new o-ring for this, I forgot).
      And just one more thing, be careful not to pinch the o-ring on the new thermostat housing when you install it. On mine, it was very soft and it took several tries before I was reasonably sure it sat correctly, again because there is so little space to work with.
      In my case it didn't change anything that I changed the thermostat, so make sure it's actually faulty before you start. According to Audi, these cars can have a working temperature of between 70C and 90C in winter.
