Talk Talk is one of the most underrated bands of all time, and Mark Hollis's voice should be up there with the greatest of all time. I hope you continue to dive down this rabbit hole, as there are SO MANY great Talk Talk Songs. "Life's What You Make It" is phenomenal just for the piano, "Such a Shame" is brilliant, and so is "Living In Another World". My all time favorite, however, is the live version of "Tomorrow Started". It's one of the most heart-rending vocal performances I've ever heard. Mark's voice drips like honey, and I lament the fact that he's not a household name. RIP Mark Hollis. Thanks for reacting!!

Such an epic 80s masterpiece. Absolutely still blown away every time I hear it. So many great memories associated with this song. I get transported back to my college dorm room and the amazing sense of freedom and independence I felt living away from my home and family for the first time. I was exposed to such a huge amount of new experiences which included a tidal wave of all new sounding music from new bands never before heard from including this song and artist. The early 80s was an amazing time to be coming of age and being part of the new wave in music, particularly the bands and artists out of the UK. Such a vibrant and exciting time for music. I love watching when you guys hear early to mid 80s British music. Keep going down that rabbit hole because it’s a fun journey!

Notice each species of animal has a hieroglyphic lettering of "IT'S MY LIFE" around its mouth, while Mark Hollis, the human, is blocked from talking. There's even a black bar over his mouth to redact any comment he may utter. This is the animals' video, their time to "talk talk." A beautiful gesture from Mark (1955-2019) and the band.

You're right Americans for the most part are infected with glass is half-full optimism, which is antithetical to many of the Smith's lyrics. There was a subculture however that connected with the Smiths. Kids who came for the synth-pop/British pop and stayed for the delightfully darker asocial and twisted themes, speaking to our coming-of-age angst

Great! Yall are going down the synth dance punk/pop, new wave rabbit hole today! Talk Talk was a great band, always had funky bass guitar line. This was a big song at the dance clubs during the '80s and '90s lol. I liked their music as a child, '80s. "Talk Talk" and "Such a Shame" are also good videos, songs, check out "Such a Shame". Both were also played at night clubs. They are British. Singer has the nasally, but soothing/smooth voice like many Brits do . Lol. Good pick up on that. RIP, he died so young, '60s from an illness a couple of years ago.
Also, '90s, '00s Ska-punk band with new wave influences (synth) No Doubt (Gwen Stefani's band) did a cover on this, was great. A little heavier. Yall probably have heard it before, movies, radio, and the music video. Came out early '00s.
Both versions of the song have been in movies, bumper music for talk radio/sports talk radio, tv shows, probably heard at grocery stores (background music), too. lol
