- Fears To Fathom is a psychological horror game that takes stories based on real-life events and turns them into playable episodes. We can experience firsthand what it was like to undergo such events from a point of view perspective.
Many people call this game nerve-racking and terrifying...but why is that?

As a police officer, I really don’t like going to calls like this. Entering an unknown home to search for an unknown individual who has the intention of doing unknown things. It is rather terrifying
Thanks for helping make the world a better place.

The scariest part is how realistic the game is
It’s based on a true story
What about episode 4 and 5🤔
I can't get my self to keep watching this lol I feel bad if you play this😂
@@HOURLYSNIPES Fears to fathom episode 5 rayll would do it tomorrow
@@Slownesss no its not?? They are MEANT to be like a real story, but its not based on true stories, It is MEANT to look like one
Home invasion is everyone's phobia. Watching 8-bitryan playing it alone makes so much tense and dread. I wont be denying how frightening it is to happen let alone see it in a game.
That's the point! Every chapter happens in a "Home" or somewhere you are supposed to be safe...
Hi fellow 8bitryan fan you are amazing 😎
Its scary bro, im more scared in humans that can kill you than ghost or monsters that never exist. I experienced it too when i was young and im at my uncles house someone broke in and they search our house while we are sleeping were so scared but atleast he didnt do anything to us especially at my cousins they are young girls my uncle woke up and noticed the intruder but they quickly leave the house they got all our phones and laptops its so terrifying we are in a deep sleep not knowing we had an intruder at our house
Maybe depending on the situation. I highly doubt some 10+ year ex convict or combat veteran would be afraid of this old man. If anything they’re probably going to go into a blood frenzy and be a horror for him. It’s all fun and games until you fuck with the wrong person who is meaner and tougher than you could dream of being. The old man wouldn’t even target them because he’d know that isn’t what he wants 😂
Getting targeted for a victim is because you carry yourself like a victim. Same with getting robbed in the ghetto. The less likely you look like you’re ready for action. The more likely you are to be a target. If you look like you’re ready to draw down at any moment, jackboys know it and they’d rather go after something easier. That’s how all predators move. You got to be really starving to go after something dangerous when there is weaker prey. I mean who targets a lion when they can target a sheep. It’s on you to carry yourself like a lion.
Hello fellow 8-bitryan fan 👋
I feel like what makes fears to fathom way scarier is how realistic it is
The scariest part is that our boy just scarfed an ENTIRE LASAGNA by himself in three bites....dude, nevermind terrifying horrors, bro needs to watch out for cholesterol and heart disease!
when he asked if you noticed that, I thought it was him eating lasagna that way
All I know is if I was going to break into someone's house and they ate an entire 10x8 of lasagna in one sitting I am just going to leave.
I don't know their appetite and I might be their main course.
@@SpicyMediaRealdamn straight I’m not getting eaten whole
You guys don't eat entire lasagnas???
It’s a game for goodness sake 💀
For me it's definitely the fact that it takes place at home. The place where you should feel safest but all of a sudden, it's a place you are the unsavest.
My favorite song has that part told "Won't you stay with me, My Darling? When this house don't feel like home"
@@BrentRiveraSucksCurses by The Crane Wives, correct? Looove that song!
@@deadcorpse6125 it is!!!💙💙💙
"Unsavest" 💀
There is no one upstairs ‘yet.’ The ‘shadow’ you see climbing the stairs is foreshadowing the guy coming in. If you go throughout the whole house, he is nowhere to be found.
He comes in when he breaks the window
And the backdoor being open? I think the intention is that he had went upstairs, and hid in the parents room.
He’s likely getting the layout of the house and coming back later when the neighbors are asleep
For me, Fears to Fathom is terrifying because it immediately makes you tense with the ambiance. Normally the ambiance you'd hear in the beginning would be the noises you'd hear outside (crickets, maybe wind, owls, etc.), or just complete silence, and the spooky ambiance would only kick in when the spooky stuff begins to appear. Fears to Fathom? It starts right off the bat with that tense ambiance. It isn't helped when the premise is in the back in your mind: You're home alone and someone breaks in.
Mandela catalogue
It's terrifying because this things DO HAPPEN and not everyone gets out unscatched, I remember very vividly when I was a kid and I was home alone with my sisters, I went outside to lock the main gate of the house (From the inside) and a man outside IMMEDIATELY STARTED WALKING TOWARDS ME, I didn't pick on the actual danger at the moment because I was too busy wrestling with the damn rusty lock, he was like, two meters away from me and he backed off when he saw my older sister glaring at him and ready to grab me before he could do it (With younger sister behind her) Mind you it was in the middle of a bright day, with my neighbours at each side in their homes, I think the only thing that made him change his mind was because there were three of us and not just only me, god knows if I would even be alive if my parents didn't kept us three together at all times...
That sounds highly exaggerated, how do you know the man was after you?
Survival instincts of a carrot (jk). But in all seriousness this sounds like something straight out of a horror movie and you were lucky to walk away from that situation, God knows what he would’ve done but it definitely wouldn’t have been good. And if I was your older sister I wouldn’t wait any longer I’m running with you and the younger sister and getting the heck outa there. No time to waste when you know that someone’s only intent is to harm you. Also, did you at least report what he looked like to the police department? Don’t want him running around causing anymore trouble to unselecting victims.
Hope everyone is doing good and staying safe
Don't open the lights at night if you think there's someone in your house, you know the layout of your house while they don't so don't give away home turf advantage.
Also instead of initially calling the police, if you can, call a neighbor and have them come by if you think there might be someone in your home. Never go looking for them alone or at night.
If you know that someone is in your home do as before just to have them knock and make sure you can exit safely and then call the police.
Never give away that you know they are there. They might try and take a chance to get you before you can escape.
If what happened in this game happens and they actively break into your home. Get to your room, lock the door and try to barricade it.
And call the police. If for any reason you are unable to call the police, make as much noise as possible. Break shit, yell make it seem like you are actively in danger.
The most important thing for survival is to do your best to not freeze. This isn't always possible as everyone deals with true fear differently but if you freeze you are screwed.
Ignore the invader. Do not ask why he/she is doing it. The answer is obvious. They are after you. The time spent asking a dumb question like that could be spent potentially saving your life.
Hope everyone is doing good and staying safe
@@cannedsquasher5923 Forgot the most important lesson:
DO NOT, i repeat, DO NOT FUCKING GO OUTSIDE TO CHECK THINGS unless help has arrived and you are 100% sure you are safe, your main line of defense is your house, if you hear strange noises from outside and think it's nothing, still, don't fucking take chances by opening the door
@@cannedsquasher5923 So I'm guessing my mom's gonna get herself murdered then. When she hears something, she always whooshes the door open and shouts down the stairs "I'M NOT AFRAID OF YOU. COME FACE ME OR GET OUT OF MY DAMN HOUSE." every damn time. Wouldn't say we're a victim of home invasion specifically, but my next door neighbour (who's my cousins) got robbed several times, our other neighbour is a psychopath who vacated his house and has been hiding since (yes, he was on the news and now he's gone), and some dude once walked over to our gate and started aggressively and very loudly shaking it, pulling on the lock, before leaving.
We moved to a new house, and so far, we're still not safe. Some woman, who's mentally challenged, started screaming and crying at our front gate, banging on it too at 3 AM one night. Seeing as all this weird and horrible things happen to us, you think my mom just shouting at the problem head-on is a viable solution? :')
The only things that make this game terrifying are: 1-The atmosphere. It's a well designed game, with her own atmosphere.
2-The fact these games were based on real stories from reddit.
3-The antagonist of each episode. They are real people not monsters, not myths, they are real.
4-The secrets and details in each episode. We can see the "maniac" when they are not even introduced in the main story.
I'm still living with the fact that some people can't share their stories, because they couldn't escape.
Real stories from reddit. That cant be in the same sentence
“Real stories from reddit” 💀
@@sai_dw I honestly thought these real stories were emailed to them, but sometimes It can happen.
@@rubyblood8764 It was emailed to them, not from reddit
the stories are not from reddit. they specifically state in their game that the stories were emailed to them
This pilot level was a perfect debut. The entire episode felt like a prolonged, sustained atmosphere of that gut-wrenching feeling you get when you're trying to usher your character into performing an action quicker in a horror game, like shutting a closet door before the killer notices that you hid inside, or sprinting as fast as you possibly can but your character is just too slow to outrun them.
I love how it, in every way, defies what horror games have become recently and delivers something new and interesting. Rather than an ominous buildup into a jumpscare, or just scattered jumpscares all over the place, the game can give spikes of horror that scare the player just enough to evoke that same reaction that a loud noise and a scary face will, but without abandoning all the leadup to it. When you mess up and you get killed/caught, I love how it pauses and just lets you take in what happened, rather than playing an in-your-face animation and cutting to a "YOU DIED" screen. It lets your mind fill in the blanks, and imagine what happened next - which is one of the most powerful elements of horror.
Also, I did come from the springlock video but stayed for this other content. This is really enjoyable, great job!
I also came from springlock video
The most horrifing part of the game is the fact this type of stuff has happened to people that arent here to share it
the scary part about this game is that this can happen to anybody, i had experienced this last year when i was 15, i was home alone, my parents were out on a business trip and on the 5th night of being home alone, some guy was standing outside my house, just one step in the driveway, the guy kept staring at my house but left, a few hours later while i was in my room, i heard a knock on the door, i checked the peep hole only to see some guy standing outside the door, i asked the guy who he was but the guy did not answer, a bit shaken up, i went to the storage room to get the pump shotgun and load it up, i went back to the door and asked the man to leave, the guy started banging on the door but i stood my ground, eventually the door bursts opens and the guy saw me pointing the shotgun at him, the guy raised his hands up and as the guy backs away, the dude charged towards me but i shot the guy, i then called the E.M.T and luckily the guy survived and i faced no charges but the guy had to serve a few years in prison after being discharged from the hospital
jesus christ hope you're doing ok mentally.
Damn man, hope you're doing fine.
Bro you a trooper
DAMN
Don’t mess with the guy with a pump shotgun
For me It’s cause it’s such environmentally scary, it’s not a spoopy run down restaurant, it’s not an abandoned toy factory, it’s not a horror like forest or cottage, it’s a normal everyday neighborhood, also this game builds up suspense and does ambience so well, the tiny toes going up the stairs, the music suddenly going from calm to insane immediately, etc. but worst of all these stories are *real* which is why I think most people get terrified, finally it doesn’t have the classic horror game feel, you don’t feel like a character escaping the monster, you feel like you’re there trying to survive and while playing you may be surprised at the lack of jump scares, but there’s always the feeling ones about to pop up, adding on the the anxiety and pure *FEAR* inflicted by this game and it feels psychologically terrifying which makes it perfect
the worst thing is that it happened to real people, in the past it might have happened to me too, if it wasn't for the fact that my mother stopped leaving the windows ajar (in short, as a child, when I forgot keys to house I would put my hand through the crack in the window when it was ajar (tilt so that the top of the window was ajar) and open it from the inside. It wasn't the first time, and when I told my mom about it, she freaked out because she thought if I could figure it out, the thieves would figure it out) (if there is a grammar mistake i'm just gonna say that i'm not native english speaker)
So far, none of the episodes are actually true

great video! personally i think fears to fathom is scary for one reason it keeps you tensed up the ENTIRE TIME. you get no breaks at all its a complete leap of faith you have to take and that's what i like about it no corny jump scares no spooky monsters and almost no noise it almost feels like your in the game. that's why i love fears to fathom so much
Personally, I think the genius of the entire series is that you always feel uneasy about something you haven't seen, even when throughout the game you can miss key details that make it scarier. On my first playthrough I never saw the Stranger in the parent's window and in the downstairs window later in the game.
The idea to include the wardrobe jumpscare to the Norwood hitchike episode was genius idea, because it punishes people who obsessively click everything.
Im not rly scared of horror games. But episode 2 made me horrified. The sound effects are so terrifying. And as the game goes it gets scarier. I had break when playing ep 2. So scary and realistic

Wow you are a great RUclipsr! You are incredibly underrated and I recommend you do a second episode about the 2nd or 3rd episode.
The feel of this game and thoughts of what could happen is horrifying. This is a masterpiece in scaring people.
i like this series, we need more horror games based on real events
That kid is really procrastinating bro is an entire school year late. Also this man just called out every person who played this perfectly
What makes it terrifying is you don’t know what’s waiting for you behind every door, corner
Loved this look into the game!
If you like fears to fathom, then you will definitely like chilla’s art they also have real life horrors like fears to fathom but also paranormal horror
Despite not having the best graphics the game really knows how to make people crap themselves
i think the biggest scare factor is the noise filter (fuzzy quality) is much like that of found footage, which for many people (me included) is an anxiety inducer
Fears to fathom is one of my favorite horror games ever, I've been watching it since their first chapter and I absolutely loved it, and the fact that people went through this makes it even more terrifying, they come out with new chapters every year and it's always worth it, I wish something terrifying happened to me so it can be a horror game and spread awareness about safety and other stuff. I hope they can make more and never stop
8:02 You trolled me, the glass scared me
It's similar to watching a horror movie that you think is more silly than scary, and then notice the "Based on a true story" text on the screen at the end. And suddenly it isn't as funny anymore.
As well as these games take place in places that people would consider their "safe space" or somewhere of comfort. So when someone has breached that comfort and safety it really puts people at unease. Personally games like these are my least favorite to play specifically because it highlights how scary these scenario's are, and how realistic it is just isn't my cup of tea to play.
That's just my POV and opinion on it.
The thing about this game that made it so horrifying for me to play was the fact that about halfway through each episode, the realization that these actually happened would hit me. And it made me realize that nothing was really stopping it from happening to me.
How does he have homework if it’s the middle of summer, summer school I guess.
Don't you get holiday homework?
i cant wait for the hitchhike video
one detail people miss in that one is that one of the men who stares at you through the window and then goes to the number across isnt the same man as the intruder later on, which nods to the idea that everyone in the area save for the the two staff and a couple locals who help you are in on the alluded trafficking ring
8:56 I literraly jumped out of my chiar after the door opened
The jumpscare at the end gave me a heart attack cause I thought it was all over.
Just from the title alone, the moment you load up the game, you are already tense. Only to be greeted with that soft and warm light from the sunset, it subverts you to thinking that nothing is out of the ordinary and that you are safe. The lighting is a great detail as well because during the tv scene, the light is all focused on the room and those 2 lamps just blinds you to other details. and it genuinely surprises you when you see the intruder enter the home because your focus is all on the tv, maybe some might catch a glimpse of something that moved to the side and that is even scarier cause you cannot be sure if its just you genuinely tweaking or its an actual intruder. And when you find that open door, it makes your heart sink. It is scary to know that someone is there, but to have yourself slowly convince yourself that it was nothing only to be proven wrong makes you way more vulnerable.
I LOVE your series where roots don't grow it's AMAZING
Ironwoods is out and man oh man it's nerve-racking as hell, this is why I don't go to the woods
ironbark lookout
I saw so many commentaries about how the scary thing is that is based on real stories, but i found that the least interesting thing, we dont even know if those stories were real, and doesnt even matter, the strong point in the game in mi opinion, is how well builds up the tension by taking the time, you make a lot of common tasks in the beggining just to role as the protagonist, and slowly start experimenting the fear by steps, little steps. Ironically the game uses jumpscares too, but not in the same way, and it doesnt depend on that for the entire experience
Also i liked the video, new sub
All 4 episodes are "based on" real stories but the devs have exaggerated many things in the game
@@Soham.69 Yeah that could be too! But my point is that the stories could be total fiction for all i care, and the game would still be good
@@hyronvinter778 As a redditor I know how" true" reddit stories are lol
I considered all of this as 70% real 30% fiction
I like to think that since this is basically a storytelling, if you "die" at any point, the glitchy static is basically the game going "wait a minute. This isnt what happens." and bringing you back to the menu to try again!
Just found your channel. Love your content, I hope you make more soon
this game never fails to send shivers down my spine
Why would you just walk out the door like nah dawg I’m jumping out the damn window like just throw something at it
It was amusing and frustrating to watch Gab Smolders play this and miss everything until she tried to sneak out before the cops arrived. She even went back, had her viewers tell her her to lock the back door and her camera panned over the open door 3 times and she didn't notice it.
The thing that makes it so terrifying, every time I walk I feel like I’m in danger
Ngl underrated channel , you mad interesting
And homework in the middle of july be mad scary 😂
The fact that after playing you remember that it actually happened to someone
That fact that this episode is based of being home alone makes it more scary because I, RIGHT NOW am home alone

well there are many thing i dont understand i mean who was the guy who climbed up the stairs while he eating food because the creep was at the door after midnight
The weird thing is I saw the same man outside while watching this
It’s so terrifying because how it is so realistic. And when you play, you realize that this has happened to people. And could happen to you.
The only way I could watch it was watching Jackseptieye play them.
Fears to Fathom is scary because you can fathom the fears. Every event, while unlikely, can happen to you in real life. This is unlike conventional horror games with supernatural monsters and an impossible setting, where you know it’s just a game and could never actually happen.
Loved this video, even this video itself is "terrifying" how he's explaining everything makes sense
The scariest part is how bro lives his summer day.Wakes up eats, does homework for 4 hours, sleeps.

Hey been watching you and I didn’t realize you’ve only got a few videos, but they’re all great quality and I genuinely enjoy watching them. Keep up the work man!
Part of what makes it scary to me is how it makes you go do things that are very uncomfortable (or at least uncomfortable to me), like going into a basement, or down the dark stairs, or opening the door when someone knocks on it. The dramatic irony thing as well, and the fact it’s based on true story’s?? And the eerie, dark look the game has. Fears to fathoms 🔛🔝
The scariest part of the first episode is they have homework in JUNE

This was a really good vid I love your deep dives
but there's the ironbark outpost, that's more terrifying
Pretty funny and good channel, subscribe deserved, deserves more tbh
Ironbark lookout was one of the best ones yet
Did you know that in every fears to fathom episode that it's people breaking into your houses like for example
Home alone - a stranger breaks into your house
Norwood hitchhike - a stranger breaks into your hotel room
Carson house - your girlfriend breaks into a rich guys house
Ironbark lookout - a evil cult breaks into the tower that you are gaurding
This is a really well made video
What makes it scary, is that it isnt unrealistic and can actually happen to you because these games arent about paranormal creatures or myths, but real humans with evil intent.
I don’t know why but his voice is so calming 😭
Im waiting for waser to always come back

Fears to Fathom: it scares me
Fears to fathom will, WILL be the first horror game I will play on the channel.
So this is why they sell cameras for inside your house...
It also doesn't have a clear beginning or ending. We don't know who are these people. Why they are after us (exluding 3nd episode), it is coincidence or maybe a bigger plan. The fact that we don't know who really is our enemy is even more scary.
7:05 in a real scenario, you’d be fucking dead, HES IN THE FUCKING HOUSE DID HE JUST TELEPORT BACK TO THE FRONT DOOR
