- 6/17/2024 marked the first day of extensive testing of the South Coast Rail system in advance of next year's planned opening. There have been a few tests over the course of the past couple years but these MBTA consists will now be the new norm running over the lines over the next several months. The first day of testing consisted of operating a trainset from Middleboro to the New Bedford line where they tested crossings/signals at different speeds. This video follows them to a few spots throughout the day at locations in Middleboro, Taunton, Berkley, Freetown, Lakeville, and New Bedford, MA. New rotem cars and a HSP46 was the consist. Stay tuned for more videos of the South Coast Rail Lines as they are tested!

Atleast we know where the CLEAN MBTA cars are now!
Thanks for watching!
Heard the horns midday and my first thought was “I hope Michael is out there getting some video because I can’t make it out there to go chase!” Haha clearly you did not disappoint
This is totally awesome. It will be great next year spring 2025. Have the commuter rail trains running. 😊
Thanks for watching!
NY needs to pay attention to this… we need the old rail lines rebuilt
Thanks for watching!
Ah that’s why my kingston line train had single levels this afternoon. We had this set earlier last week
Thanks for watching!
This passenger locomotive 🚂. Looks great. Great videos.
I love the rottems horn
Me too
Beautiful work, as usual. Would be good, even though you do a great job of identifying the locations in words, to give a shot of a map, I bet MTA has a map on line to which you could link in the description highlighting the new line ? Thank you.
Great video - so well done.
Thanks for watching!
Any idea how frequently the train will run from Fall River to Boston? Haven't seen a schedule out there, just curious if anyone had a good estimate.
Just an armchair observation: Why new Rotem coaches on a non-revenue test train? Or are the coaches also being tested?
I know it’s a long way out, but any idea what will happen to the new Middleborough Station once SCR is rerouted through Stoughton as part of Phase 2? Will service on that line continue to terminate there, or will it go back to serving the old Middleborough/Lakeville Station…or maybe terminating somewhere down the Cape?
The state plans to protect that asset and it will be used seasonally by the CapeFlyer. Who knows what will happen after Phase 2 as that is many years away if ever.

Does anyone know when these run?
As in What time?
Maybe if we are lucky in another 10 years, we will finally be able to take the train to Boston. I'm not holding my breath they have been saying the train was coming since the mid 1980's. For the last 40 years every Governor has come to Fall River to promise this at election time. I will believe when the train ticket is finally in my hand.
I probably wouldnt worry about it. I think it'l be done in about 1-3 years
This time it is for real.
While I understand the doubts this is the first time I’ve seen such a realistic timeline put out there. Not to say there can’t be more delays but this more or less matches up with what I was estimating once the project started to slip.
@@KnoxvilleRailfanProductions Thats what they have been telling me for 40 years. You know how many times they told me 1-3 years.
@@bobcosgrove3235 I get that, but now there is signals in place, new trackage, and other stuff, as well as the test trains running. The ticket will be in your hand next year.
For me everything looks good..... 🙂
