- Another storm and more washouts to be repaired but MOW crews are on the job! 38 cars were the most I think I have seen on the Hill! A really enjoyable day of railfanning. The ballast is a pretty pink color and there is plenty of it!

The crew of the L'Anse Local had a lot of work to do after starting the locomotives. They had to pull 38 cars out of the Koppers and CertainTeed plants first and then drop those cars in the L'Anse Rail Yard. Then they coupled to the loaded cars for those two plants. Finally, they had to go back to the L'Anse Rail Yard to pull the empties up L'Anse Hill. You did a wonderful job of capturing that work, Nancy! I enjoyed watching this video. Hi Nancy, That Eagle mine you mentioned is only about 10 miles from my family hunt cabin in Big Bay. You threw me for a second when you called it a Nickel mine, I didn't know that. I only knew it as a "Sulfide" mine. There is a barn in Big Bay that has a huge hand painted sign on it saying NO SULFIDE MINING. I had to google a bit to get edjamacated on it. I have hunted the Yellow Dog Plains, and fished the Yellow Dog River befor the Yellow Dog Falls many times so I know the area first hand. Everyone says the mining will kill the wildlife. So I wonder if the Huron Mountain Club got involved to keep them honest. They own a lot of land adjacent to the Yellow Dog Plains.*(or near by, I'm no land surveyor or nuthin, just grew up using the land right next to the club property) and I know they are very influential around there. I'm ambivalent about it. I want jobs for people to prosper from and minerals so we're less dependent on foreign imports, but I do love wildlife. All I ever hear about the Eagle Mine is all bad. OK, lots of luck to you finding out about the plans in your area, I hope they don't stonewall you too long. FOIA should mean we as citizens shouldn't have to bring a Law Suit to find out what's going on. But that seems to be the case most of the time. Otherwise we're mislead by liberal owned news agencies. You aren't going to believe this, but as a kid I mounted a lawnmower on the front of an aluminum boat and used it to cut the stuff growing above the water on a little pond we used for rafting. I was a kid OK? I did a lot of things that were not safe. But sofar I survived. Ha. Ha. Thank you Nancy for the fine video work, and the special touch of hearing the railroad radio. Any cargo can go by rail if industry desires so. I look at Brookville Lime outside Saint John where I lived and my Dad worked, they loaded between the two mills 10-15 cars of product a day on a average day. they went to truck with wondering of wear on the highways. when you present the reason to use rail, ask of highway wear if use truck instead. both trains were long.

and trains as much as I like them do not go where trucks can, so save that trucks teafr up everthing on the road stuff , without trucks, you wouldn't eat, get gas, clothes or whatever, all trains are good for is long distance hauling lots of loads and that's it, trucks are there to finish the job.. as a driver myself who likes trains
