  • Completely replacing the street running railroad tracks down the middle of Main Street! Heavy machinery removing the railroad tracks and replacing them. CSX maintenance of way crews using track cutting equipment, removing the main line, welding the tracks together, moving dirt in CSX high rail dump trucks, back hoes etc. All of this heavy railroad replacement work took place just feet away from the downtown businesses and homes. Also included are the first couple of trains cautiously moving over the new unlevel tracks. I put both of my videos into one. I wasn't able to do this initially due to the length of the videos. This CSX street running railroad is located in LaGrange, Kentucky on the CSX Short Line. This line is ex Louisville & Nashville, L&N, and runs from Louisville, Kentucky to Cincinnati, Ohio. There are about 10 or 11 trains a day on this line. The best frequency to listen to for this line is 161.370. I spent the whole day here on February 11, 2020. Hopefully this video will make it easier to watch the replacement work in one video instead of having to watch both . I was probably the only person who filmed the first 2 trains over the new tracks. Thanks for watching!
    Please thumbs up and watch another JawTooth video to help my channel.

    It never ceases to amaze me just how "noodley" the iron rails look like when they're picked up by heavy equipment. They're heavy and immovable with human-scale power, but pick them up with an excavator, and they seem no more solid than cooked spaghetti.

      Hilariously, flat Earthers present railways as evidence of a flat Earth. They say that rails could not conform to a curvature of 2.2cm/km. ;)

      @@JawTooth Hi,
      What do they do with all the used railroad ties and the rails? How often do they replace the rails and ties? That is a lot different now than when the railroads first started laying down track . You don’t have as many people pounding each rail.

    My father started on thr the RR, when
    He was 18yrs old, and his job was what
    Their doing here. The only difference between then and now is the level of
    Automation, I.E. the big machines used on the mainline. Everything here
    Is the same. Now their called M.O.W.
    Workers, back in the late '50s,early 60's, when he did it they were called
    (GANDY DANCERS). THAT job description had been around since before the turn of the last century. It's pretty amazing to think and see just how far they have advanced in the level modernization we come. Bc remember that their forefathers did the same work by hand

    years ago, I didn't think putting down 30 inch length flex track on my N- scale layout looked realistic. Now I find out it's as close to real as you can get. I never once thought train track was pre-assembled in such length. Then watching them knock out the sleepers like how they do it really blew me away. Today's technology in laying rail is amazing, and can be copied in scale.

    • @mbbuckeyes8386
      @mbbuckeyes8386 3 года назад

      How do they align the track? When you look at the video in the 1hour and almost two minute Mark - the track looks really wobbly in the distance.

    • @billmorris2613
      @billmorris2613 3 года назад

      The machine that aligns and tamps the ties starts at the 51:16 mark in the video. The rigging out in the front of the main machine has a set of lasers on it. This machine is working for several minutes and you can see it stop over each cross tie and picks it up and adjust the ballast under and around each cross tie.to it’s proper level and when it’s done the tracks are level and very straight with the proper gauge..
