South Coast Rail high speed train testing - New Bedford, MA Line - 6/19/2024

- On 6/19/2024 I was able to get several shots of the MBTA test train running on the New Bedford Line. I followed the trainset being moved from Middleboro to Berkley to start testing and then got a few runbys during the test runs themselves. My previous video didn't show the trains at speed but I was lucky today and got two "high speed" runbys. While this is not technically high speed rail freight trains here have been running at 10MPH for decades so this speed is quite the change. The testing ran as fast as 79MPH and the last two clips in the video have to be quite close to that.

If testing has begun and with the Whales Tooth and Taunton stations slated for completion by August, why on earth is it going to be nearly another year before service starts. New Bedford and fall River are just short line extensions from an active line with 5 new stations total on track that is already carrying freight. It seems insane.
Federal regulations, crew qualification, simulated testing, etc all take time
@@SouthCoastRailVideos Perhaps you can elaborate on the testing protocols- something that the MBTA has not seen fit to do. With no adequate explanations, 10 months seems an inordinate amount of time for this process. MBTA appears to be impenetrable bureaucracy at it's very worst.
The T had two public meetings on these protocols. ruclips.net/video/VhOV2pd1_VM/видео.htmlsi=itkinyH27NPY0pdQ
@@BG-sl9lv First they need to do testing to get everything working right. Then 90 days of testing without any incidents. Then they need to do crew qualification runs for everyone that will be eligible to work on the territory. Then they have to invite the FRA to come see and approve. Then they can start hauling passengers.
@@SouthCoastRailVideos The meetings were announced with little notice and I was unable to attend. Thanks for the link- that was quite informative. And a human face on things makes a difference.
I think it was inferred that the previous project team was terminated.

Thanks for watching!
We were just trying to chase this! How did you find the schedule?
There isn’t a schedule for the test train. You have to be lucky and catch it. Using a scanner helps big time.
