Deaf Man Coming Out of Anesthesia

- Ryan had his hernia surgery yesterday! The nurses were so kind and accommodating. One of the doctors even took it upon herself to learn the signs for pain, nausea, and girlfriend lol. Their team did an incredible job!
Here's a clip of him coming out of anesthesia. Ryan is working on a video capturing the whole experience, but we thought we'd share this with you guys for this week :-)

Hey guys! We totally forgot to put a picture in this video of the duck that we are talking about! Maybe too much anesthesia haha 😂 but don’t worry, we’ll come out very soon with the full video of Ryan’s Inguinal hernia surgery... and we will have a pic of the duck in that one! 🦆 and maybe a few more pics of that beautiful date we had❤️.
I am new 2 the channel, but love how Ryan? (I hope I got that rite😅) is willing to let us take part in his life. As bad as it is, ppl don’t kno what other ppl experience except by ‘seeing’ thru that person’s view. Also, is it offensive if someone uses the word “deaf” to describe your way of life?? Srry 4 the long post😅
@@telisah9611 👍🏼
So i been learning vrchat ASL, so i kinda know what your both signing but im still new at it. ASL has the best community. Keep in mind vrchat ASL is a bit different because im signing with controlers love you videos
This is funny and cool! I'm deaf too but I have cochlear implant. When I look at your videos called deaf man vs drive thru: they throw my food away and watched it. I got so trigger that they said your faking it, if this ever happened to me I would just say is this how you say to a deaf person? How about you be nicer next time when I see you. (If my battery died) but you guys are awesome!
@Sign Duo
Glad you're feeling better
I love how everyone is just like: is he ok?? how you feeling??? and Ryan is just ranting about ducks and their date for the entire time, so cute.
Maxwell I know my priorities 😂🤣
I know, he’s so funny
Plus you could tell his signing was all slow and imprecise just like speaking is coming out of anesthesia. Best video!
That cool deaf because he understand to asl and sign language I’m deaf your feeling fine I’m worried about you!
I found the wingless suck hilarious
Awwww I love how Ellen and the nurses were worried about how Ryan’s feeling but he just wanted to talk about ducks 🦆😂
hahaha i know right 😂
I made it 1k like
Are you ok? Are you cold?
THAT WINGLESS DUCK WAS SO TALL!
Nurses seeing SD signing to each other: I bet she's asking him how the operation went!
Ryan: AND THERE WAS THIS DUCK WITH NO WINGS
😂😂😂LMAOO it was really wholesome
that's so funny.
i kid you not, funniest shit i've ever seen
That's something I would totally do in a situation just sign random things and the people who understand it would be so confused
I like Nurse Joan. She spoke directly to Ryan instead of just asking, "Does he...."
I liked nurse Joan as well :)
I read this when Nurse Joan
JESUS LOVES YOU and I Hope everything went Amazing I'll pray he Recovers well❤🙏❤
I completely aree
In healthcare you're taught to do that (but it's something everyone should do regardless) "look at the person you're speaking to, not the translator when you're asking questions or giving instructions" they're a person not a dog, it would be incredibly rude otherwise.
Nurses: Are you in pain? Do you feel nauseous. Let's sit you up.
Ryan: Ducks.
It sounds like the nurse says that "he was *tachy* from the beginning", meaning tachycardia, meaning his pulse was elevated when they put him under, which can happen with anesthesia and needs to be monitored but can be pretty normal as long as it doesn't stay too high for too long.
@@gordythecat I also have to be careful with medications that affect heart rate, but it's not at all unusual for "regular" people to respond to certain drugs by getting slightly tachy (too fast) or brady (too slow). Heck, even coffee will do that to some. I suspect they would've mentioned if it had been anything out of the ordinary.
thanks doc
River Lugh I’m sure if it was a concern for them to monitor at home, the nurse would have said it to them directly.
as someone who graduated from the school of “watching way too much grey’s anatomy” i knew exactly what “tachy” was referring to
@@mysticwolf1358 lol
Haha I wanted to see the “weird duck”, glad Ryan is feeling good and safe
Me too
Maybe in the full video!
My boyfriend had his wisdoms tooth taken out not all four just the one and when he came out of anesthesia he was saying hey babe I had good fart he’s also Deaf. he signing the entire time when he got out also but he kept signing about how much he farted and he said where the penguin I saw a penguin come in and then he sign bye dr Mario come on I’ll drive home we gotta get the penguins home. I’m sorry about my texting but I hope your boyfriend feels better
Must've been a REALLY weird duck lol glad ryan is in good spirits and hope today has been good, as well!
Thank you!
That one nurse doesn't say "why do we have sign language..." I had to listen to it a couple times. She was making fun of herself, saying, "I know as much sign language as I do Spanish." Then the two nurses laughed at her inability to pick up a new language. Perhaps, you guys could share your channel with these nice nurses and teach them some necessary signs for communicating with their deaf patients.
I heard lt too
Thanks! I'm slightly hard of hearing and have a lot of difficulty distinguishing voices when there's overlap or competing noise.
Thanks for clarifying! We weren't too sure what they were conversing about. That nurse actually asked about our RUclips and I gave her all the info.
@@SignDuoChannel That's awesome. Hope she's here and has joined the fam!
He really wanted to make sure people knew about his duck dream hahaha glad hes doing well!
LOL thanks Nikki
If HE CAN REMEMBER TO COVER HIS NOSE WITH THE MASK EVEN UNDER ANESTHESIA SO CAN YOU.
lol 😂
Though I understand the safety-risks, I know how much oxygen those masks block and I really feel bad about people feeling sick or nauseous and having to wear the mask, while trying to breathe properly. He was taking short, little breaths and started coughing, the nurse said that in the video.
I know several people that started hyperventilating in the train after 4-5 stops. Though masks might be necessary, there's no need to use capslock like that. Just saying.
@@Widdekuu91 you have a point
Yash Samyak The nurses would take care of that, he’s just out on anaesthetic and wouldn’t be expected to remember this.
news.sanfordhealth.org/coronavirus-disease-2019-covid-19/breathing-with-face-mask/
Please do not spread false info. Masks themselves do not change your oxygen intake. Sometimes the feeling of the temperature change of our own breath triggers a psychological change in our breathing patterns, but the masks themselves do not inhibit air flow.
The fact the doctor learned a few signs just to accommodate him means so much to me as someone who is hard of hearing. Sometimes I just can't understand vocal words clearly and have to ask for it to be repeated and sometimes people get really angry with me, or if I don't hear them calling my name, they think I'm being inconsiderate even knowing I'm HOH But the fact the Dr leaned "Pain, Girlfriend etc" is amazing, this way he doesn't feel neglected, due to a language barrier, and can easily communicate if he's in pain, or if something really needs to be translated so his gf can come. Most people don't ever take that extra step. I hope he has a speedy recovery!
I can’t wait to learn asl for this very reason.
@@haileyrobins9026 can I offer some quick advise? start small. Learn the alphabet first, practise finger spelling and getting comfortable first. It took me ages to be able to recognize words being finger spelled at a normal pace.
I lost my hearing, gradually over time, so I had to learn ASL and PSE, as a teen. I was fortunate enough that my best friend learned with me, while my family refused to. I think learning that even though ASL looks like English but in the form of signs, its not. Its a whole different language, and theirs even a culture that helps represent the deaf community, that unfortunately I'm still trying to learn to this day. I wish you the best of luck though! Its a fun, hard, and rewarding journey.
Kay-Ree Boulter Thanks!
Yep! The dr. was amazing, she asked me those signs prior to surgery to ensure that if I had an issue during the actual procedure she would understand me. She also asked me the sign for "GF" in case I wanted her present for communication. Thank you!
Humans are such jerks
the amount of times ryan told ellen about his ⬇️dream lol
Yeah, anaesthesia's a fun one...different people react very differently (and there are lots of different anaesthesia combinations as well). Obviously, his reaction to whatever he was given was to be mostly alert coming out of it, but very repetitive. 🤣
You just want likes
Jesse Gonzalez and it worked:)
Every time I've had anesthesia I do the same thing. Sometimes you forget what you were just saying and then you have to think really hard. Then you half remember and it goes in loops.
I'm wishing you a speedy recovery!
@@mayamahoney3616 look you even agreed that you just wanted likes
no one:
absolutely no one:
ryan: BUT THE DUCK! REMEMBER THE DUCK?!
I love that you can tell he's a little zonked on the meds as he just keeps going on about the dream xD
Ryan I hope you’re back to normal soon. Hernia surgery is no joke. I’ve had two umbilical hernias and had two separate surgeries. You don’t realize how much you use your stomach muscles until you have something like this done! Take it easy and get some rest and I’m sure Ellen will take great care of you!!
Thanks Courtney! I can't imagine having this surgery twice! Respect and props to you! haha. Yep Ellen has been taking great care of me :-)
It’s cute that he talked about the date and the weird duck 🙈 hope Ryan gets well soon 🤗
🙈🙈🙈🙈🙊🙊🙊🙊🙈🙈🙈🙈
apparently dreaming about ducks means something good will happen soon. its a sign of changes and to be prepared. since it was focused on ellen... hmm i have an idea but idk
hmmm...
I hope he gets feeling better
Thanks Jerricho
I can't help but "awwwww" at the fact that he dreamt about your date. It's such a sweet thing... I really love your channel guys, I can feel the love of you two and that just makes me happy for you! Also I'm glad everything turned out fine!
Thanks!
When getting my wisdom teeth out I wouldn’t talk I would only sign... I’m not deaf just know asl. Ya they didn’t expect it. In the car I would only giggle cry. I remember my dad asking “can you talk?” I said no my mouth is missing 😂
Hahahahaa
I spit out my drink holy moly. :)
He's so cute... please protect him at all costs.
1:28 the nurse actually says now I know as much sign language as I do Spanish
thanks for the clarification. we weren't really that sure
Sign Duo no worries!
Nurses: “what are they talking about?” “Should we ask?”
This guy: “BUT THEM DUCKS THO”
and we must see this duck
you can see the happiness in his eyes when Ellen appears and as he communicates with her even tho he’s just getting off anesthesia, you two were meant to be together
Yea i was glad that the hospital kept their word on everything they promised! I felt super comfortable!
We can see the love in his eyes when he's talking to her 😍
Seeing this makes me so happy my daughter is going to be a nurse and is fluent in ASL . Feel better
The last time I was this early, I didn’t have the subtitles on.
LMAOOO
Get well soon Ryan! Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Glad and relieved he had such a good experience & will hopefully be feeling better soon. Side note: I love listening to people ramble after anesthesia. It's always interesting what they experience and remember. Like a wingless duck. 🤣 rest up Ryan.
thank you!
Dreaming about a duck date, that's so sweet! 😊 You're such a great couple, thanks for all the vlogs and letting us be a part of your life! Get well soon, Ryan!
You guys are amazing!!! I hope he gets better soon. But on a side note I am partially deaf and being able to watch a deaf RUclips channel is a blessing 🙏
He's just as funny as hearing abled people are coming out of it! I loved seeing this!
I think he dreamt of the date they went on
Aww...he is so sweet even when he did just wake up💕
Im not sure why this popped up in my recommendations but im so glad it did. This was so wholesome and cute 🥺 best wishes to the both of you 💗
Good to see Ryan in good spirits. Get well soon and give us full gist
I'm very glad everything went well. Gotta love coming out of anesthesia. Wishing you a quick recovery Ryan. 🦆
Thanks Bro! I appreciate it
Don’t you mean a “quack” recovery? 😏
He kept signing about the weird duck. Reminded me of my sister when she got her wisdom teeth removed 🤣 Glad he's doing better and got treatment 😊
hahaha thanks
@@SignDuoChannel you're quite welcome 😊
This was so wholesome! I love that he dreamed about a date you guys went on :)
Hope Ryan has a healthy and fast recovery! love from India!
Blessings for both of y'all. Love.
Is the deaf man coming out of anesthesia or is the anesthesia coming out of the deaf man? 🤔🤔🧐🤯
good question lol
Get well soon, Ryan! 💐 Ellen, i really love how super supportive you are ❤
Thank you! I appreciate it. I'm lucky to have such a caring person in my life.
I'm so glad he has Ellen in his life y'all two are so amazing
He's so clearly just out of anesthesia, ranting about the dream and the weird duck and the date... that was so cute. i wonder what i've ranted about when coming out of anesthesia... i can't remember...
Hahah!
I love this channel so much
I can see love between this couple whenever i watch sign duo. Love you guys!
I love your channel for how transparent and genuine it is. Thank you for sharing your struggles, successes, and everything in between in such a non-tokenizing way.
You’re thinking bout ducks? Understandable, Have a great day
Oh my gosh so adorable! As you tell us, Ryan hasn’t had any major procedures with anesthesia, so he comes out of this one like a kid that’s just been to the museum and excited to tell his dream while under (asleep). I also love that he had a positive, funny dream while under. THE DUCKS! So funny! I love that he wants to know how B I G T H E H O L E ! Omg HILARIOUS! RYAN’S EYES WHEN ELLEN SHOWS HIM HOW BIG THE HOLE! 😂 Looking forward to follow-up appointment with sign duo video. (Side note: not sure what the nurses are really saying and laughing about in the background, but it looks like he got great care there. All the best,)
Hahahaha. Yeah I'm glad I had a positive reaction to the anesthesia! :)
Aww I hope he gets better
I’m so glad the procedure went well. Prayers for quick healing.
He really dreamed about vlogs 😂😂😂
Awww did he keep forgetting that he told you about the dream or did he just want to keep talking about the dream because he was excited LOLOL. This video is funny 😆
Awww he looks great!! So happy the surgery went well. We love you Ryan!!! Get better soon!
Hope you feel better soon . You so lucky the best interpreter .
She comfort you .
omg instead of "anesthesia" I read "AMNESIA" 😅 Glad that Ryan is okay!
That would have been bad 😅
"They were nice to you?" -- "I don't remember"
I had a doctor tell me something along the lines of "it's a good thing you'll be on anesthesia because we're going to beat you"
Love y’all videos hope he ok
Very happy to hear everything went well for Ryan 😊👍
This is why I want to learn sign langue. I am a nurse and it would be so helpfull.
i clicked so fast my finger is now gone
Locust Hypnosis eww
Great to hear that the nurse learned the sign for pain in case of anything going wrong :D
Wishing you a speedy & full recovery! 🦆
That must have been one special duck

I wanna see the duck!!😂
Next video I'll make sure to include a pic!
Did Ryan have an interpreter when you weren't with him?
Their previous video explains everything!
She was with me 100% of the time, except for in the operation room. I was already sedated before entering the op
Get well soon praying for your fast recovery! 🙏
You guys are so sweet. The bite at the very end is just the proof in the pudding of how much he trusts you and you care for him.
