They don't match. When I hear a song for the first time, I often misunderstand the lyrics. It's like pareidolia : you think you hear/see things that seem familiar. There's been plenty of vids mocking the phenomenon. Anyways : I don't get the impression he was drunk, he just couldn't be buvvered. And rightfully so.
My favorite part is when Paul asks the crowd if they know the words. Yes Paul, we know them. The better question is, do you?

Make no mistake iron maiden was going to be a punk metal band originally! They became better and worthy of being a heavy metal band later. Bruce was a much better fill in for that. Paul's earlier solo stuff from 93 and battlezone was dope as shit.

I don't know why, despite Paul's drunken vocals, I still can't help but love this. The band he's with is so good at playing, and his vocals.... yeah they suck hahaha. Although I love Iron Maiden and Bruce Dickinson, I couldn't have the Killers album any other way without early 80s Paul Di Anno singing on it.

To be fair, they took advantage of him being so completely addicted that they could get him angry enough to leave and agree not having any royalty rights, even for the things he did with them. He was a douche and blew it all, sure, but he would probably have fared better if they would have treated him ok after the breakup. I mean, the guy had to go on welfare while to albums get repressed every other month and sold in the thousands.

People generally like Paul's Maiden more than they do Blaze's Maiden, but Blaze is doing A LOT better now than Paul is.
Well that is largely due to the fact that early Maiden is A LOT better than 90s Maiden even if Blaze is a better singer. X Factor and Virtual XI being mediocre is not Blaze's fault as he didn't write the songs or arrangements, he just sang what he was given.

as hardcore maiden fans know back in the day paul had a great voice and was very suited to maiden, lets not forget he sang maidens anthem phantom of the opera. i wont go into his departure of the band but it's no wonder he is how he is today after seeing the success maiden have had. i saw maiden back in 82 burr on drums in derby! \m/ up the irons \m/

Paul's delivery of lyric's were never rushed ! Conveyed with great feel and emotion ! Not so true with those, or (He) who followed ! I only speak the Truth ! Then came such great emotion as with "Children of the Damned" and "Hallowed Be Thy Name " ! Some of which was still rushed ! Damn you for causing me to dissect the vocal history of Maiden !
I'd rather see Paul standing upright and singing drunk. Reason being he could still hit the high notes.
Nowadays, he's in a wheelchair and doesn't have nearly the pitch he had 8 years ago.
Ultimately, I'm glad he's still recording and making the best of his situation.

There would not be IM without Paul, Bruce came at the most opportune MTV time, Paul earn his chops the hard way in the concert scene in front of thousands, Bruce gets the best crowds reaction when he attempts to sing anything from the first two albums and Number of the beast, can't even compare nothing after the first 3 records PAUL IS THE BEAST FROM IRON MAIDEN.

Even drunk and unintelligible, Paul still sounds better than Vince Neil on a good day.
The diction is obviously... flawed. But over the years he seemed to have found his head voice, something he did not really have during Maiden years and just kept pushing his chest - especially live. he sounds quite nice on the highs thanks to that, very smooth as opposed to forced screams.
This sounds really good and band aswell. Pity about his health issues.
