  • This time we take a look at a camera I've been quite enjoying recently, the Mamiya C220. It's a TLR that packs a lot of features not usually found in twin lens reflex cameras and makes them work.

    Was looking at one in a shop last weekend and the focusing screen was amazing, so sharp and so easy to focus

    Nice video, thanks for sharing. One of the advantages of having an interchangeable lens system, is tha if your shutter gets sticky, you just have to send the lens for service and you can still continue to use the other ones.

    I have the C330 and it's amazing. I used to use a Rolleicord but since the C330 I got rid of the Rolleicord. The quality of the photos is stunning.

    This is a really nice camera. I have also been shooting a C220 which my father left me 10 years ago. I find the other lenses are quite good also, especially the 55mm. I also have a video on my channel showing some photos with various film stocks with this camera, if others are interested.

    I have a c220 with 105 3.5chrome do you know how does the 105 chrome lens compare to the 105 ds blue dot lens? in terms of the image quality

    • @Lostin35mm
      @Lostin35mm  3 года назад +2

      There seems to be some differences, they are a different optical formula, the chrome one is 4 elements in 3 groups while the the DS is 5 in 3. I would however say that image quality differences are pretty small, all of the Mamiya TLR lenses are really sharp.

    The Koni Omega TWR, the Cambo TWR , the SINAR TWR, the Linhof Technika TWR
    and the Gowland Reflex are also twin reflex cameras with interchangable lenses;
    that makes another five TWR cameras

    Which scanner did you end up getting? I'm using a semi-recent Canon flatbed scanner and not enjoying the results. Your photos look super crisp here.

    • @Lostin35mm
      @Lostin35mm  3 года назад +3

      I got the Epson V550. It works well on medium format if you put the film straight on the glass and ditch the holder. Gives you pretty good results, 35mm however is just not that good but about as good as you can get with a flatbed.

    The shown viewfinder of your MamiyaC 220 is no chimney viewfinder, it is a waist level viewfinder.
    There are Porro , Porro CDS, and Magnifying chimney (CDS) viewfinders.

    What is your standard for the weight and size of a TLR camera?
    So your opinion is the location of te aperture an shutter speed
    rings are an ergonomical problem?
    Not being disabled, any photographer can handle this Mamiya C.
    Hold the camera with your left hand, if you wish, with a L-bracket
    or with a pistolgrip.
    After you have done your light metering, your right hand will set all.
    It is just a matter of moving your fingers a few millimeters or your
    hand a few centimeters.
    Aperture ring and shutter speed rings are very close together, they can
    be moved by your two fingers. Like the rings of LF optics can be moved.
    By moving the right hand you can do the focusing, film transport,
    cocking the shutter and pressing the release button.

      Downsizing to 24 x 36 mm.
      Too much grain..
      Less bokeh
      Too many exposures.on a roll

    Your mentioned downsides pf the mamiya are nonsense.
    Weight and size?
    This camera is no Minox. It is not made of plastic.
    Slow in handling? The photographer might be inexperienced..
    "Not ergonomical". Are you disabled?
    Scanning a 120 film is blasphemic; get yourself a lab / darkroom.
