Thanks for the update. We've been looking for our first boat since June of last year. We started cautious, but are now at the point where we think we know what we want, but there hasn't been anything matching our requirements for months. So I'm sorry that you're going through this, but I appreciate your sharing this journey because we know that we're not the only ones!
We spent nearly a year to find ours. Then we sold it in 4 hours with ten other people in the queue.
With my boat experience the old adage applied "The two best days of boat ownership are the day you buy it and the day you sell it." It wasn't that I didn't love sailing it, it was the fact that every time I went to use it someone had stolen parts off of it so I had to first check the entire boat out to see what was missing, drive to the local marine hardware store, buy the replacement part(s), drive back, attach them to the boat. By that time an hour or more had passed and I was in a bad mood.
Have you considered trimarans? My wife and I were on a Neel 47 with two other couples and we were impressed by its sea worthiness, its performance and its creature comforts. A crew of two can easily handle it. We sailed from Florida to Iceland and on to Portugal. We encountered some heavy seas but had no issues. We left the cruise at Portugal but the other couples are continuing on to India and Thailand. This vessel beat the last boat that I had; a steal hulled cutter by a country mile. As an aside this vessel had much more interior space then any cat that I was ever on.

Thing about riding the cycle is the time line, nobodys getting any younger. Hopfully you can find something that what will make you happy, Buyers remorse generally disappears once underway.

I have to hand it to you guys. I've never been this patient with a purchase on anything in my life. How much of this patience comes from the stock market being in a poor place right now? I know that it's really affecting me and my choices. I think that I see a light at the end of the tunnel though. At any rate, I'm happy that Megan is getting time to focus on her health. What engagement, never seen people do boat hunting globally before. I'd given up and bought a large monohull instead, just to get out on the water again. The demand is crazy for cats, 4 years of waiting if you order a new one today.
Good to see you folks again. Sorry about the health issues, we all have them. Stay happy and be careful what you wish for. Would you rather be sailing in the Caddy boat or looking? If it is finding the perfect boat first, and I'm sticking my neck out here, then keep it up. If the joy of other people and meeting your fans, and enjoying them, then sail something close to what is wanted or, you'll lose your sea legs. (Heaven forbids!). We just like you for whom you are not what you sail. Best wishes. I get it, having a fast boat will get you back to land faster, Are the health issues that bad? Well, I guess that is something to consider. I face that every day, at my age. For instance, I'm hearing (pun intended) tendentious indicates one only has, statistically, so many years left. Whatever you decide will be right, I think if your happy and together it is time well spent. Ec 9:1 Time and unforeseen occurrences befall us all.
Hang in there! Boats require $/time/effort, but they are a way of life. With the right personal commitment, we are sure you'll find yours. Took us ages to find ours, and 3 years in, we are happy with our choice. Best wishes and be well!

Glad to see you back on "the air"-prices for ALL toys (boats, cars, airplanes etc) are fixxin to plummet-you two are smart to bide your time and wait for the perfect fit for you two. We purchased a dirt cheap property 12 years ago on a Florida Island that needs to be torn down. We rarely stay there, and are working to rebuild. It is not for sale. BUT, I get calls multiple times a week asking to buy. I used to tell them to go away, but we started asking "how much?" about two years ago, and set a number that - if we got it - we'd take it. That number was exceeded multiple times more than a year ago. But our line in the sand just kept going higher..."if they off this amount, we gotta take it." But we don't. The amount we'd make would be...a lot.
I finally looked at the wife and said, "let's face it. We want this property to stay ours. It's not rational, so let's stop pretending we are using any form of objective criteria."
So I understand these boat sellers. Maybe most of them are holding out for even more dollars, but I think a lot of them might not expect their "make me walk away" number to be offered. So when it shows up, they flake when they realize they really don't want to let it go.
So anyway. Anyone want to buy a house in Florida? ;)

If you're headed to SoCal instead of LAX you should check to see if John Wayne Airport (SNA), Ontario Airport, or Long Beach Airports are the same or cheaper. They are much easier to deal with than the mess that is LAX. If you're headed to Newport Beach then landing at John Wayne puts you a few minutes away. The end of the runway is almost in Newport Back Bay.

Thanks for sharing Pt Reyes! We drove around California for 2 weeks sight seeing for our honeymoon 21 years ago. When we got to the Bay it was socked in with fog our entire 3 days there. We stood at the top where you were standing and couldn't even see the lighthouse. We were able to hike along the the edge on the inside of the peninsula and it was clear, so that was nice. But didn't get to see much looking toward the ocean.
Just putting in my 2cents in your continued search & possible find - I hope you have found a forward cockpit boat this is meeting everything else you are looking for.
Even if you don't find the FC boat I'll still enjoy following you. Best of health to both of you!

Being a more of an old time sailor started in the late 60's I am more into a gaff rig full keel To me a great perfornance boat would be a sandbagger if I could get one Where bowsprit to boom is at least twice as long as the hull

Yes, catamaran prices are adjusting to some extent so we are past the peak prices. The market’s behavior model can and does apply to the stock market as well during a downturn. Today Just Catamarans sent out an email blast with price reductions. The 2020 Seawind 1260 “Caseata” is down to $599. I think it started in the mid $700’s. Just one example. Finally, the catamaran market seems to be correcting to market conditions. Meaning a lower stock market and higher interest rates are likely going to continue to put downward pressure on prices.
I wanna see you all (my vicarious vision expands) in a 72 foot super-automated boat that you can pilot from one location (or its twin) by just flipping switches and hitting buttons. Bigger, yes, but super-insulated hull to give you further LATITUDE in your choice of adventure spots, and gobs and gobs of power/battery reserves, coated with solar panels, maybe even a solar sail, if they can make them light enough, so we can see you dodging ice floes in the Southern Ocean and watching polar bears and penguins filming Coca Cola commercials in the Arctic Ocean.
Also, with all that power, you can stay toasty in the high latitudes, and cool in the low ones. Imagine sunbathing on deck South of Australia with a nice little greenhouse over you heated electrically via heat pumps.
Also, imagine intercepting the Volvo Ocean Race and taking some vids of those hot rod boats.
Fur hoods drawn as you effortlessly sail the waters of The Most Dangerous Catch or whatever it's called.

The right boat will show up. This process shows the reality of getting the boat you want. I'll stick around.
The key is to be patient. If you have the money, you wait out the market so when prices come down you can jump on the 'right boat'. There will always be boats on the market. I have always said that the right one will come along at the right time.
Don't worry about spending too much in a falling market either. Boats aren't known for being good investments after all. You may loose in the short term as you see prices around you continue to fall but, if you wait for the rising market to sell again... it could take some of the sting away. Or better yet, keep it for 20 years and amortize the pain! Heck, after that long there will be someone looking to snap your boat up because a new one will cost 3 times what they do now.

Great video, you hit the nail on the head about boat prices, it’s the same here in U.K. but there are signs it is softening. Similar situation on house prices here as they went mad during the pandemic but still don’t seem to be dropping much despite increased mortgage interest rates. You are right to keep calm IMO and I can imagine it is difficult as you want to go off sailing but I’m sure when you find the right boat and the right price you will know. Same here on boats for sale that are not really for sale, owners who bought during the pandemic who are often first time boat owners, have yet to realise things have changed but the mooring fees, storage and maintenance doesn’t stop. Wishing Megan well in her recovery, a friend of mine has just had some surgery on her face and is finding things difficult right now. Take care and good luck with your search. Andy UK

Hope all the health stuff goes well and left in your wake soon, that is what really matters! Good luck with the search as well, the wait for our build to be done is arduous, but I'm sort of calling this the Goldilocks phase, where we are helping crew on OPB's (other people's boats) and don't have boat issues of our own to deal with lol. From May 1st - June 30th we'll clock nearly 3500 miles aboard performance cats...each mile making us even more excited for getting our own! Cheers!

Also, just a note on the recent increased availability of Outremer 51's, the French government has some funky "leasing" program that is available to EU citizens that helps keep their boating industry churning and selling boats that people are not actually buying for their sabbaticals. So, they are sort of long-term charter cats, I don't think it is any coincidence that now we are a couple of years since covid that you are starting to see more Outremer cats pop up. Notice you don't see a bunch of their competitor's boats from Marsedeon, HH, or Balance popping up often.
We actually looked into this since my wife has dual citizenship, but the living quarters were just a little too tight for her liking. It's a good program if you qualify.

A few years back we were walking through a marina with a broker - decent guy - who was educating us a bit on what we were looking at. One boat caught my eye and I idly said "I wonder if it's for sale?". Our broker mate grinned and said, "They're ALL for sale!"

The best choices are always tempered with time.
Seeing more and more small sailboats 25-32' hitting market as the cost of marina slips has gone through the roof and the transfer of slips is becoming a huge hassle
First up, we are wishing and hopeful that all goes well for your C word situation. I've personal had 2 Basil Cell surgeries and I have a third one trying to be an issue. I totally understand your concern with this. Secondly, your boat is out there somewhere, perhaps teasing you with availability quams but be patient and take care of # 1 FIRST. Without our health, nothing else is that important to us. Stay safe always. ❤️❤️
