I got the privilege to do an at the throttle event at the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer several years ago. Nothing like sitting in the drivers seat. I also own a 1947 Oliver 60 tractor that is painted just like this one that belonged to my Grand Parents. What a good day both in one picture.
This partnership was FANTASTIC!! A match made in heaven and should be pursued every year. I was so excited to see the queen run thru the wonderful country hills of that historical PA lands.
Out of all the events 611 did during her first stay at Strasburg these photo charters were my favorite part of her stay. Especially when doubleheading with 475.
Remarkable how right at home 611 looks on such a small line. It’s a bit like using a beltsander in place of a back scratcher in terms of power but still she looks like she’d have a happy excursion career in Pennsylvania rather than down south shuffling between Spencer and Roanoke.
I've seen the Strasburg Rail Road on the dynamic webcams and those are good, but this gives a completely different dimension. Quite a lot of rock'n'roll on that section of rail at 09:00. The photo specials are something else, especially at 13:25 with tremendous use of light... a remarkably well-planned and executed bit of video. Some excellent weather conditions, only a pity about the wind rumble. The vintage tractor and model certainly added something! Greetings from the UK, Bob K.

A page of living history! I would have loved to have been there! Great photo shots on this video! But we have are restored great 261 milwaukee roads steam in Wisconsin!,plus other smaller engines.
i took my wife and kid. the only bad thing about strasburg is the nature of a shortline railroad. they really cant get the beast 4-8-4 J class up to speed. a few years back we took a ride out of steamtown on nickle plate 765 and they were able to work the berkshire HARD. the sound was incredible, 50+ mph on the mainline like she's meant to be run. strasburg is a gorgous place and has it's own history i just wished they were able to take the old gal out on the mainline, get her up to 55-60 pulling some grades so we could hear her work, they are barely able to even crack the throttle on a shortline.
In technical terms these 2 are Cousins so I think its nice for the only 2 Working N&W Steamers to spend some time with each other every couple years. Now they Need is to Restore N&W 1218 and N&W 2156, bring them to Strasburg with 611 and you'll have yourself the N&W family reunion.
@@kingofthemonsters3712 Yeah I made this comment without realising how Fat the Mallets are, If any N&W locomotive should join in on the N&W Reunion it probably should be N&W 1151 or 1118, There M2 class Locomotives that are in extreme Disrepair. But to be Honest Screw the N&W Reunion, Where the Hell is my Great Western Reunion, GW-60 is only a State over on the Black River & Western Railroad After all.
I don’t like how 475 was and probably still is equipped with that 12 inch hooter whistle. It sounds like a steamboat foghorn whistle. Not saying it’s a bad whistle. After all it was built for N&W locomotives. Especially the A class articulated locomotives. I guess the M class 4-8-0’s too. Maybe sometimes the N&W experienced fog on some routes and needed deep whistles like the steamboats did. And Strasburg Railroad is all about keeping things trains old fashioned. It was great seeing 2 N&W locomotives under steam either way. The Strasburg owned 475. And Virginia’s Class J streamlined locomotive. Passenger and Freight locomotives.
20:07 diesel train says: hey, what's up stupid guys? N&W 611 Class J says: you shut up diesel, the steam train is better than you! diesel train says: >:c I don't want to be your friend! N&W 611 Class J says: whatever, and shut up because you are insane, you're dead bossy diesel train!
Wasn't a diesel. That was an electric locomotive, Amtrak on an express passenger run. Just the sort of work 611 was built to do, and even now could do it again if asked nicely.
Guess I don't understand why the 611 got stuck with the freight cars when the other engine got the passenger cars. Should had been the other way around
That Norfolk and western M class is actually number 382. It never runs passengers and it only takes cargo so that’s not 475. 475 It’s actually in the shed.
@crystalkauffman2463 No it’s not 382, the 382was dismantled over a half century ago along with all the other M class engines except for 475 and 433. They dress 475 as 382 on occasion for freight photo charters. Probably should read some info before shouting it out. *Not trying to sound mean, just saying.

Suberb video of the 611 and the 475, well done. Greetings from the Train Lord in South Australia.
Glad you enjoyed it
Oh yes I remember the good old days when I went to the Roanoke Transportation Museum and saw the 611. Before it was put back in service.

Some really beautiful shots man! Awesome production.
Thanks
Isn't it amazing, two Norfolk & Western steam stars are reunited for such an event. Fantastic coverage, Dynamo.
Glad you enjoyed
Hey, I went to Strasburg for the 611 cab tour. In fact, it was the first cab tour of any locomotive in my life.
Beautiful photography!
Thanks

I saw them both at the Strasburg Railroad too. It was awesome.

*Great video. Thanks For Sharing. Love from Vietnam*
You are welcome. We’re glad people can enjoy it from so many places
@Sebastian Floyd 1218 doesnt operate.
The 1218 likely won't run soon, especially considering they can barely find anything for 611 to be doing.

The lighting really makes the video.
They are alive!
Great Video
Awesome compilation of the whole event! Didn’t know you guys were also on the sunrise charter on October 5 as well!
Glad you enjoyed
How come in your video 475 (382) had a multichime but in Steam Z Productions video she had her chime when she was 475
Because they changed the whistles during the event
Dynamo Productions oh I see thanks for the info

It says Norfolk and western at 0:49
26:50 I was there at that very moment
it's weird seeing a streamlined steam engine pulling freight.
They did some towards the end of their careers on the N&W.
Late steam era, it happened plenty of times.
This 611 is good at strasburg

382 not 475
