    • @tanzeel77
      @tanzeel77 3 года назад +1

      But still 57 sec is really slow for an athelete like you. I never made it big in track, I dropped track 2 years ago but since then I am doing cross fit and wight training , I ran a 400 dash last week even though I am heavier than during my track days by 15 pounds , Last week I managed to run 400 in 50.8 sec which is 2 seconds more than my personal best.
      Nick j beleive you can still run below 50 even in this current body weight if you make up your mind for it.

    • @nc8186
      @nc8186 3 года назад +8

      Yea I get that he gets more views by click baiting and I figured before hand that's what it was but it is kinda frustrating how much he tries to defend his time. Like you run multiple youtube channels and rungum just own it and say you don't do much speed work anymore. With a 47/1:42 400m/800m he could definitely squeak out a 52 with a few sessions a week. I don't like the whole I feel better so I must be healthier logic. He feels better because he has to run less. Iirc within the last 6 months he has ran a 52 or 53 second 400m. To drop to a 57 with his base means he's probably just not running. But I think telling his audience that would hurt his brand lol

    • @Trancefreak12
      @Trancefreak12 3 года назад +14

      @@nc8186 It's not clickbait. If someone's baited because they actually think he ran his fastest 400m years after retiring, they might need to get their brain checked.
      Also, why does he need to say that he doesn't do much speed work anymore? He's retired; it should be a no-brainer. Not everything has to be stated explicitly or spoon-fed. Actually, Nick makes a point in many of his videos, including this one, that he doesn't train like he used to as a competitive athlete.

    • @nc8186
      @nc8186 3 года назад +15

      @@Trancefreak12 you can't say it's not clickbait if it's contingent on someone assuming he's lying lol. It's not even his best 400m in 2020, or the last 2 months even I bet. It's extremely deceptive and you can't deny that.
      Yes he's retired and he's running slower but his reasoning for why he's slower is misleading lol. He could be his current weight and be faster and feel better than he currently does and you know that lol. Sure he's not outright lying but the title and content of this video are pretty deceptive lol. He's a former 1:42 800m runner who is struggling to break 57 and he feels like he needs to make excuses for why he's running slower. And imo it's wrong to just tell his audience that he's healthier now and that he lifts more which is why he's slower. But the intro to the video is talking about how much more explosive he feels then he goes out in a 14 for his first 100m and still commentates like he might have a chance lol. It was clickbait, many viewers can't extrapolate his 100m splits and he didn't even allude to being too slow until he's like halfway done with his *voice over*.
      1. Title: best 400m he's ever run
      2. Intro is about feeling more explosive than ever and trying to beat his best time
      3. During the race he only says he won't beat it until it's glaringly obvious
      4. Afterwards he says it's okay he didn't because he feels physically healthier than when he trained a lot which is fine but it contradicts the whole first half of his video.
      All I'm saying is he should just own it and say he doesn't really run much and he has perfect reason not to. It's annoying to see him pussy footing around the fact that he can barely hold his mile pace for 400m and try to excuse himself

    • @insyw
      @insyw 3 года назад +4

      @@nc8186 He is also taking into account his weight and the fact that he has retired. Him saying it was his best mile was him meaning he felt that he worked the hardest and overcame some obstacles such as his gain of weight.

    Idea for video: Have a team of seekers and a team of runners. The runners have to run a certain distance in a time limit for example, a 5k in 30 minutes. Give the runners a little bit to start running and then the seekers chase them. You can have the seekers on bikes if you want too. If you get tagged, you’re out.

    I put on about 20 pounds in my first couple of months as a college freshman sprinter, actually think the weight has created more momentum and speed for myself. Went from 138 to currently 157

    Nice. My best 400 was a 60 on a 4x400 relay in a summer track meet I was talked into doing. I did put in a 63 on the first lap of a 1500 race in college. Right now I don't think I can beat 90 and I am 80 lbs heavier and 38 years older. If I can get back down to 185 I might try and see if I can go under 90. Nice to see you still challenging yourself.

    Greetings from Germany.
    Awesome performance.
    I started running regularly in May this year. I improved my time for 400m from 1:48 to 1:17 and I hope in 2021 i could reach 1:10.
    I will work for that goal! 🏃‍♂️
    Keep going with your contant, it's great to see your passion for running 👍🏻
    *one day later ... I improved my personal best by two seconds to 1:15 🤟🏻

      As long as you`re having FUN- that`s what matters. I ran a 400m in training (alone) this summer in 1:04. I am 52 yrs old, and 191/98kg. Which is 10kg more than me as a 20year old. My best discipline was the triple jump, so I don`t really have the stamina for the 400. But I still enjoy running! Grüsse aus Oslo

    I’m 26 years old and in high school I ran 49.34 400m. My dream is to get a sub 48 time. I have been smoking heavily the last few years and totally physically inactive I am unsure if I could ever get back into the shape I was in in high school. I’m partially concerned that some of the internal damage I’ve down to my body may be permanent. Regardless I’ll begin running soon and get on a work out regiment. I’ll keep track of my progress. Wish me luck.

      At 26 you’ve got time. You can be near your best up until 33. It will take you 3 years to get back to your best. It will be a marathon effort to turn yourself back into a 400 sprinter. But you can do it! Speed comes back more quickly than the speed endurance though so be patient and keep at it.

    Solid run, Nick! Quick question, I'm considering investing in a Freelap timer myself. I have the Jawku one right now, but it is often pretty iffy. How do you like the Freelap system? Also do you find much difference between using the system with the touch pro transmitter vs. with just using the junior transmitters like you are here? Thanks man! I love the videos and I think it's awesome what you're doing these days after your running career.

    Weight lifting definitely helps with that speed and power, managed to hit 39s for 300m but I mostly run xc, hard to find that ideal weight to keep my strength and endurance
