So Nick was a world class 800 metre runner a few years ago and is clearly in good physical condition, however, specificity counts for so much. He's done very well in my opinion. Having cycled 10,25 and 50 mile time trials and covered 400 km audax or randoneur rides I can say being fast over 10 miles doesn't extrapolate into being able to cover 100 miles easily. Well done Nick 👏

All those changes and I'm almost certain you would take off easily 30+ mins. Again, you're awesome man!
@@rosihantu1 Yes. Running shoes are designed to absorb energy from a foot hitting the ground and deform. Cycling shoes have soles that are very stiff and transmit more force into the pedals. Not many sealed roads and with some climbs of upwards to 400m at times so distance travelled can be slow. I've been spending some time riding these same roads this summer. I've biked the Corvallis to Eugene section of the Willamette Scenic Bikeway a few times this year. The scenery in the Willamete Valley is fantastic! One of the best parts is refueling with some Sizzle Pie pizza and Vodoo Donuts!
First time I did a century on my bike it was a double century. Seattle to Portland 2010. Super tough. I’ve never bonked so hard before. I got over the bridge from Washington to Oregon and figured Portland would be right there so I started really pushing it for maybe 20 miles and completely ran out of gas (carbs). It’s about 40 miles from the border to Portland. Had a chocolate bar and a can of coke and I was good again. Made it in at 10:30 at night. So exhausted. I’ve done it many times since and have improved my times greatly. Oh yeah the first bike was from the 1970’s. So fun to suffer like that. Totally hooked me. Century rides are easy now.
Great work! I did my 1st Century ride last Tuesday here in Ventura county/Santa Barbara. It's hard but very rewarding, that feeling when you pass 75 miles it's more than physical challenge, it's mental. I burned 6,144 calories.
Me: longest about 14 miles...and I average like only 11.5 mph. I bought a heavier hybrid bike. Should have got a road bike. Maybe trade it in in the spring.
Yes, Nick am a 57yr old female pilot, exercise enthusiast: bike, jogging, weights. Weed eating running a pole saw whatever. I feel you! Love your channel😉
Former hardcore runner here. Took on cycling 2 years ago. Though that all that running would make cycling a breeze. Nope. I also discovered adductor muscles the hard way. I leard and improved so much. While running, I trained for ultra distance. I also just discovered ultra disctance cycling and currently training for The TABR.
Great ride Nick. As cyclist, I could tell you with 100 percent certain that although I can ride 100 miles on a bike, I would never be able to run a marathon with no training.

I tried today after watching your video..did 93 miles today one session. Faced lot of head wind while returning My previous attempt was 54 miles one session. I am from Texas. BMI 25.5.
Flow state happened when I performed my century. Not only did I flow, I overcame a broken rear derailleur and rode the tail of my century on a single cog. The key to cycling. Learning to cope with pain. It's mainly for young men. I would never try it at 30s. You'll be ailing for some months.
Great job on the first century!!!! It's not easy for someone who doesn't ride a ton. Your time was good though. This year I did 351 miles in one ride. We got rained out of our quad-century attempt. It took just over 25 hrs elapsed. 20.5 rolling. Self supported, we ate gas station food that we bought along the way. Low over night temp: 27.
What an athlete. I’m a triathlete and I definitely believe that the bike is my best event, but man I don’t even wanna think about cycling a century right now. I’ll stick to my 50km rips; lots of respect your way!
When the tracks and schools were closed I started biking. After some practice my first goal was to bike 100km (62 miles), some weeks later I biked together with my dad 115km (71 miles). After that we had a new goal, to bike 230km (143 miles) to a little island at the Dutch coast, Texel. We left at 6am and we took the boat at 6pm. I was a very beautiful ride but also very hard. Some month ago I never thought I could bike 100km and now I did 230km, still can’t believe it.
Yes, it takes a significant amount of time to toughen up your butt such that 100 miles in the saddle doesn't hurt. Also a little less upright position helps to share some of the load with your arms; but that can cause the neck problems that Nick was complaining about. It takes a while to condition those muscles in your neck to support your head like that. Spending some time out of the saddle standing while pedaling helps to stretch out the back and neck muscles and can provide some relief. Nick, keep riding your 36 milers and try it again next year and you will see how much easier it is then.
My brother-in-law and I did the STP (Seattle to Portland, 204 miles) in 2007. We did 138 miles the first day which was devastating. Lots of stops where people would be selling this incredible food. We could ANYTHING we wanted which was great!

Guys I know that I’m going to sound like I’m lying, but my first century ride was in 7th grade! I was very slow (less than 10 mph avg), but I got it done all within a day. Props to Nick for doing it with no training!
I did something similar back in 2015. There’s a 4500+ feet tall mountain next to where I used to live. After one month of getting my first road bike, I just wanted so badly to climb that mountain (rated HC on strava), and I did it in 3 hours...

I remember seeing this on your story!! Congrats on making it all the way.
This is gonna be amazing
Hope you like it!
Great work!
I did my 1st Century ride last Tuesday here in Ventura county/Santa Barbara. It's hard but very rewarding, that feeling when you pass 75 miles it's more than physical challenge, it's mental. I burned 6,144 calories.
Well done. 100 miles is long ride! Great video too.
The most I have biked is 12 miles and I thought I was insane, then I watch you bike 100. :)
Me: longest about 14 miles...and I average like only 11.5 mph. I bought a heavier hybrid bike. Should have got a road bike. Maybe trade it in in the spring.
I have a dual

Yes, Nick am a 57yr old female pilot, exercise enthusiast: bike, jogging, weights. Weed eating running a pole saw whatever. I feel you! Love your channel😉
Former hardcore runner here. Took on cycling 2 years ago. Though that all that running would make cycling a breeze. Nope. I also discovered adductor muscles the hard way. I leard and improved so much. While running, I trained for ultra distance. I also just discovered ultra disctance cycling and currently training for The TABR.
Nick you know what's next .. HARDROCK 100 ! :D ahah good job man - love to watch your videos it always displays good vibe ! )
Tour de France coming soon🔥
ha!! Those guys are on another level.
He couldn’t last more than the prologue stage
Great ride Nick. As cyclist, I could tell you with 100 percent certain that although I can ride 100 miles on a bike, I would never be able to run a marathon with no training.
I have followed you through your olympic years and wondered what ever happened to you and I came across this video, I'm a long distance biker too, your'e not such a bad guy after all, your'e even human !
I'm a cyclists for 3 years now, never ridden 100 miles until my 1st year of cycling and i remember that day i was so destroyed asf even with almost 8 hrs of cycling every week on average mad props to nick for doing a hundred mile with no training!
Nick videos be satisfying asf
Dude, you’d be an awesome competitive cyclist. Stamina and power when you need it!!!
Every healthy person can do 100 miles . Actually thats not so much impressive at all
100 mi solo is hard but with a group is a walk in the park! Once you discover cycling is a team sport instead of solo, the rest is history....
I tried today after watching your video..did 93 miles today one session. Faced lot of head wind while returning My previous attempt was 54 miles one session. I am from Texas. BMI 25.5.
I think it would be awesome to learn about what you did to recover after this bike ride!
Great work. My buddies have been kicking off 100 milers before the snow in MN. I'll have to get around to one😛 just a couple 50 lately.
Flow state happened when I performed my century. Not only did I flow, I overcame a broken rear derailleur and rode the tail of my century on a single cog. The key to cycling. Learning to cope with pain. It's mainly for young men. I would never try it at 30s. You'll be ailing for some months.
your videos should have a lot more clout like you’re such a good youtuber frfr.
Ok, I know you are an incredible athlete, but that was a very respectable time.
I saluted my computer when you made the dumb and dummer reference because that is my all time favorite movie 😂
Run 100 miles! I did that earlier this past summer and was a lot of fun!
This is some great cinematography!
Welcome to the century man. Keep going at it cut that time down. Respect
My brother-in-law and I did the STP (Seattle to Portland, 204 miles) in 2007. We did 138 miles the first day which was devastating. Lots of stops where people would be selling this incredible food. We could ANYTHING we wanted which was great!
He has the firing fueling down no doubt. His bike posture and lack of saddle time is what held him back.
Nick Simmons I love these vids Mann
"our pets heads are falling off!"
That dumb and dumber reference 😂😂😂

Nick - "on this channel we don't suffer that much"
Also Nicks recent videos -
'Eating the Travis Scott Meal, Then Running a mile'
'Olympic Runner Attempts US army fitness test with ZERO training"
'All out 800 meters against high schoolers'
Guys I know that I’m going to sound like I’m lying, but my first century ride was in 7th grade! I was very slow (less than 10 mph avg), but I got it done all within a day. Props to Nick for doing it with no training!
That’s believable, did my first when I was that age as well, now I can go out and do it easy in under 5 hours.
I did something similar back in 2015. There’s a 4500+ feet tall mountain next to where I used to live. After one month of getting my first road bike, I just wanted so badly to climb that mountain (rated HC on strava), and I did it in 3 hours...
That is an amazing accomplishment.
Wow! Thats amazing. I biked 53 miles on Saturday, and my legs were spent.
I bonked so hard on my first century at 60 miles. It was a long 40 miles to the end.
did u eeat?
@@alen-commentnazi8774 yeah, but not enough. I didn't pace myself well either. Live and learn!
@Top Trending Yes, that's good advice!
