This was certainly a long time coming. I was expecting a rise and fall of Battlefield but a tragedy of 2042 is good enough for me. Now after this you can do a rise and fall of Saints Row considering the developers behind it have since been shut down after their horrific reboot of the franchise.

I really wish they would change it, and I bet they probably would if they could. But they advertised the game with specialists to a lot of people who paid a lot of money. People paid $120 for ultimate editions which promised access to at least 4 season passes and the specialists. If they got rid of the specialists they would technically not be providing what people paid for and could get in trouble.

    • @ThommyofThenn

Which is so sad because by the end of BF5s lifespan, with the Pacific expansion, it was a great game. (Obviously my opinion only but these days it seems you have to tell people that.) They have shown they have the ability to make good games but what they lack is direction. I think they have a "throw at wall and see what sticks" approach. This worked to their favour in BF5 but it was obvious when 2042 came out, the lack of directed focus hurt them badly. It would seem a management "shakeup" is in order, in the same vein as 343. (Fire them all and pray to god you can find competent replacements)

I mean the problem is that 2042 can't really be improved that much because it is fundamentally a shallow hero shooter at its core and changes that'd say make large maps + 128 players way better can't be added in like far larger squad sizes (I mean 4 man squads *barely* work on 64 players, on 128? Awful).
This game was made and designed as a run and gun hero shooter because of Apex, CoD at the time and probably some leads seeing Vanguard going to be WW2 in late 2019/early 2022 thinking they could withstand any revolting BF fans against Specialists with CoD fans lining up to buy BF like they did with BF3 and BF1, both titles going in a direction that a lot of long time fans at both of those mentioned releases did (being the more simplistic titles in the franchise).

No one communicates; I'll have squad members just passing by me while I'm downed like I didn't revive them minutes ago.
2042 suffers because it's trying to be a hero shooter but also trying to be Battlefield. I wish they made up their minds instead of chasing trends and shitty communities.

Bf 1942, bf2, 2142 and then bf3 and 4. The movement speed always increased a bit but was reasonnable, and justified the tactical use of vehicules to move around the map, especially in empty space between points.
Now, moving in squads in a vehicle serves no purpose other than being a more appealing target to the enemy which will score more points.
The map has more features to hide in/near (which is great) but the vehicles are not practical or powerfull enough to justify using them tactically and trying not to lose them...

  • @fmrscout33

Their development model was 100% at it's absolute peak with BF Bad Company 2. BF3 is a close second. Games with that feel cease to exist today, and it's truly sad for those of us that experienced them, and became accustomed to that being the norm. BF4 was a WRECK at launch, and turned a lot of the older players off from the game due to the building physics not being destructible. Building destruction was paramount in those games. It's what made them distinct. I used to launch grenades into the ground to create a "foxhole" for cover in Bad Company 2... Every building that collapsed on it's foundation changed the dynamics of each match. BF1 almost recaptured it, but it wasn't the same (Just like BF4).
The destruction in BF3 and Bad Company 2 is still unrivaled in the military FPS space. No, there wasn't "levelation" like in BF4, but EVERY building could be destroyed down to rubble in Bad Company 2, and most buildings could be significantly altered in BF3. When that happened, the battlefield changed as a whole. Places that used to be cover, were now danger areas, etc... THAT was what battlefield was. BFV, I never played, because I'm in my late 30s, and the vast majority of military shooters when I was younger, took place in WWII when I was in my teens and early 20s. It was either Halo, or a WWII game. I've had my fill of those for a lifetime. BF1 was cool for a while, but then again, shooting WWI era weapons (with a lot of copium upgrades that soldiers didn't actually have, gets stale fast). BF is a shell of the greatness it once captured. Thanks EA, you morons. Let developers do their thing, and just publish the IP and reap the rewards of being the publisher. Greed, greed greed. Hate the current landscape of Triple A titles because of this.

Haven’t played this game since. Battlefield never worked as a Multiplayer Game for me. Single player only. I’ll just wait for Battlefield 6 hopefully this time. They do it right!

2042 is actually pretty good now: it's the closest the series has been to replicating Bad Company 2 in over a decade. Problem is, the game seems dead: I had about a month where I could easily get into a game (around the time when they put it on playstation plus) and then nothing. Minutes at the matchmaking screen and can't join any lobby. This is what happens when your launch is terrible: you may never recover no matter how much you work at it.

Surely by now we are surprised by ea and dice right? The prior game gets good towards the end, then tossed to a side for a new game with all the bugs of prior game that was fixed....rinse repeat.

I’m so sad. I loved battlefield. I forced my self thru the campaigns and storylines of bf3,4,hardline,V, over the years due to not having internet access available or not having enough money to pay for gold/GP. Now that I’m older I still go back for a bit of nostalgia. But I will never go forward with this game. Dice’s attitudes towards the community completely shift with 2042 and they missed the mark entirely on the mid level half shelved game they aimed to “refresh the series” with. I’ll not forget. Remember playing 1942 when I was like 10 years old it’s didn’t even feel like gaming it felt real. BF3/4 multiplayer was akin to it. The storytelling and detail of conflict told in the campaigns was next to halo IMO. I was desperate for this universe to succeed. And they screwed it royally lol. And add to that the death of Michael K. Williams who they should have been working closely with to expand the universe of the game, they let off the hook and he passed almost with out incident to them. Not blaming them for his death but they coulda been giving him something to aim for. They obviously had no plan for the story and let Irish(Omar) fizzle out. Crazy. Yea obligatory FUCK DICE.

You should've made and named the video: _THE DOWNFALL OF BATTLEFIELD_ (in general)
But who knows, maybe you gonna do it.
Oh yeah... BF4 still the GOAT !!!
Sorry BF3 Soldiers, much love though 😎
    21 gun salute for Battlefield... dum-dum-dum dum-dum

It’s shocking to me that andrew wilson continues to get away with misleading stock holders, and consumers alike at press events. It’s not news that EA and many other established publishers treat their devs like slaves for the sake following trends or pushing out products before they’re finished. Dice games have been some of the few multiplayer games I’ve consistently enjoyed since I was a teen. Bf1 was the last game from the studio I felt respected the devs and players enough to feel fun without ham-fisting money making schemes into the core loop of the game, that’s despite the unnecessary currency’s and loot boxes that are still present. Regardless, it felt like it was still something you could forget about when you just wanted to play the game you already paid for. Somehow the massive success the games industry has had over the last decade just wasn’t enough. The money hungry had to keep squeezing the soul out of games that had visions, devs that had ideas, all in the name of profit margins. Stg so many industries need to be regulated better, otherwise this is going to be the way workers and consumers are treated going forward.

When they added classes, it pissed me off because the freedom to choose who you play was gone. This is why the customization system in BF5 was better. It makes no sense to get rid of it. They wanted to copy COD (in that game you can play whatever Operator you want. The only limitation is who is on what faction) and suffered for it. They should’ve at least doubled the Specialist and made them locked to a faction like COD. It didn’t make sense for everyone to be shooting at basically clones. Like, at least make it make sense with a story. The core of the game is fun. But it was mired in so much BS that it suffered. At least BF5 is still active.
