Keep in mind that this is at the end of a 2 1/2 hour performance. John had been belting them out for over 2 hours and he STILL has that voice! The power. The passion. He really feels e song, and lifts the room with his delivery. The man is an absolute legend here in Australia and it's good to see the rest of the world finally see his brilliance. ✌
It wasn't quite 'at' the end that night, more like 'near'. He came back out after Help to sing another encore with Sadie and It's a Long Way to the Top. His vocal endurance was out of this world!
John is recovering from cancer in the jaw..Atm he isn't active but he has so many fantastic songs he has sang over 60 years to listen to..He is a man well loved here in Australia..He is kind, engages with his audience, put his family first by not trying to make it big in America so he could be around his wife and sons and not miss out on their growing years..He has it all..We are so proud of him..Listen to ''Please don't ask me''
I saw an interview last week with John's son Robert and Gaynor Wheatley where they were talking about John's recovery. Robert said that John has been singing at home, and dancing around with the use of a walking cane. To know he is able to sing for himself and his family is truly heart warming for me. Us fans don't need John to come out and sing for us again, but to know he has been singing at home just made my day. Robert also said that John is now cancer free too. He is still recovering, but what I got from the interview it was all very positive :)
To me this version is better. It hits different especially having John killing it vocally with his phenomenal voice. You also get to understand and listen to the lyrics a lot more in this one. Thanks for the great reaction
John is the best. He gives all of himself to every song he sings. He started as a pop star in his late teens and was king of pop for many years. Then his career tapered off and no one wanted him. Then his new manager mortgaged his house to bring out an album which became and still is the best selling Australian album. John released Help when he was down and out before his newly found success. He has a loyal following in Australia. His dedication to his music; his band members and backup singers and most of all his family is second to none. John is recovering from mouth cancer at the moment. They have just released a movie about his fight for success called Finding the Voice. He is a great singer and a great man.
John was still active till recently. Unfortunately John was diagnosed with mouth cancer, he went through a 12 hour surgery and ,John is still in recovery. PS I was luck enough to have been present at that show and also 3 others. Keep his music alive. Thank you.
I first saw him sing Help during a charity concert before Queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip at the Sydney Opera House, way back in 1980. I was as blown away then, as now with this performance. You simply can't go wrong with any song from this concert, especially ACDC's Long Way To The Top and one of his own Playing To Win.
Sorry=10+/10...You cant find better than this anywhere in the world! John Farnham is the Greatest of All Time! And he has been for 60 years. Glad you enjoyed his performance. You have 6 decades of his phenomenal performances to now catch up on:
9.8 🎉❤ John's arrangement of this song is epic and really showcases and gives more depth to the lyrics. Tina Turner also covered Johns arrangemt a few years after he recorded it. For something a bit more heavy, check out his version of Led Zeplins Black Dog. Captured during a sound check. Audio only but definately worth a reaction ❤. Or one of his own songs Let me Out. Live version
I absolutely recommend you listen to Led Zepplins Black Dog sung by John Farnham. He literally outsings Robert Plant!! And this was just his warm up prior to his performance, thankfully accidentally recorded by a sound engineer. It's amazing.
Fantastic version of the classic Beatles' song. Made it his own and then sum. His power and clarity of annunciation is why it sounds so good form. Oh and a full orchestra and sax and even a harp!
"You're The Voice", John Farnham, same concert. Also. "Angels", joined by Lisa Edwards, his back up singer. Try another cover? Eminem cover, and waaayyy different, just incredible, the best thing I've heard in years, "Lose Yourself", Kasey Chambers live, Newcastle Civic Centre. It's different, quirky, ENORMOUS! Try Cold Chilsel, live, "Bow River," Riverside Tour, that's a real banger. Possibly the very first ever heavy music? Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs, "Mama" live on GTK. That song cost me my eardrums. Billy didn't live very long. John Farnham again with Jimmy Barnes (from Cold Chisel) and Diesel on guitar, singing "When Something Is Wrong With My Baby", probably the Hey Hey It's Saturday show version. Just a taste of Aus music.
The Beatles wanted the song to be a ballard but record execs insisted it be a pop song. John can sing any genre from pop to opera. All his reactions must be live as their performances are a show in themselves. Long Way To The Top, The Voice, When The War Is Over, Burn For You, Black Dog (** this one is audio only as it was a mic check warm up song**). His duets with Tom Jones, Ray Charles, Anthony Warlow, Olivia Newton John, and Jimmy Barnes are excellent too.
Thanks for your reaction mate. We love our legend John. He is humble, funny and an ABSOLUTE POWERHOUSE. I've never heard a bad note from him. Check out " pressure down" live in around 2018(?) Not sure if correct but he's in his late 60s early 70s and he sounds EXACTLY the same and has the same energy. Just amazing. He now has some health issues so us Aussies are praying everyday that he recovers.
You should also listen to his song "You're the Voice" from the same concert. It is also so amazing powerful and one of the reasons why he is called "The Voce" in Australia.
I was talking with Sir Paul the other day and I asked him about this version He said the Beatles wanted to do a slower version but the record company wanted a more poppy style
I love both this and the Beatles version, the way I look at the 2 different versions is with the Beatles up temo version I can picture them running down the road being chased by something and calling for help or something along those lines. Where John's version puts me more in mind of someone finding them self in a bad way emotionally or near the edge and calling out for help
There's a RUclips video from the Chain Reaction tour, which also features the Beatles version of Help. Both are amazing. I love this version with the MSO, so much passion & talent. Anything from this concert is brilliant. Who am I kidding? Any song of John's is brilliant, but live is better as his connection with his band, singers, and the audience shines through. When something is wrong with my baby with Jimmy Barnes, another Aussie rock legend is iconic. John can sing anything from You're the Voice to Gethsemane in Jesus Christ Superstar to Led Zeppelin's Blackdog and ACDC'S Long way to the top to his own ballads ...Burn for You, Touch of Paradise . Great reaction, mate
This was an encore after a 3 hour concert. Could you believe, earlier in his career, the record labels would not sign him. If it was not for his buddy who mortgaged his house to pay for a recording session to make an album you would not know him today. Drama not done. Now the radio stations won’t play his songs. However, the public heard the songs then started to demand the radio stations play them. His appreciation of the public is genuine because of this. He is such a great Aussie bloke that us Kiwi appreciate too!❤❤❤❤

If you love covers, John sing Blackdog by Led Zeppelin as a warmup song! Some people say it’s spot on with the original. There’s only audio for this track on RUclips. No actual video unfortunately. Please. Check it out. John is amazing 🤩
Glad you like it. John's been an Aussie legend since the late sixties. Sadly he's had a part of his jaw removed recently due cancer so he won't sing again. Highly recommend to always chose his live performances over album tracks. Please check out his cover of ACDC's It's a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll from this same concert, and, The Voice. He's a world class vocalist and can sing in all genre's. He's also performed with Ray Charles, Celine Dion, Olivia Newton John and many many others. John Lennon said John's version of Help is the best and how he wanted it done!
I believe his range as a vocalist is unmatched!!I have seen him live.I have also seen Michael Jackson, the Eagles,Bruce Springsteen,AC/DC,Pink!And many more,Best voice of all🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Deep Purple recorded the first ballad version of the Beatles Help; the song was always meant to be a ballad but the Beatles were pushed into making it poppy by the record producers. John’s version is just beautiful and showcases his incredible range. I believe he channeled all the years of struggle and pain he experienced to make it to that stage that night in this performance.

This concert was so epic and he did so many great songs during it and puts so much into everything he does. Please do more from John and especially live. In this concert John did a cover of ac/dc it’s a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll, which in my opinion was even better than ac/dc’s version.
John released this cover in 1980 and John Lennon reportedly said that this was how it was meant to be sung. In the 1960s their record Co. wanted a feel good pop song, which worked. However the lyrics do fit the tempo and emotion of this rendition too. Better in my opinion. If you want John doing gospel watch John, Venetta Fields (ex Ike & Tina Turner & more backing vocalist) & Lindsay Field sing Amazing Grace. Listen to 3 people sound like 30 & see the effort & sweat that John puts into perfecting every song. I'm enjoying your channel very much.
I read somewhere that Paul McCartney said that this version was how John Lennon envisaged the song to be but the record company wanted a pop tune. I think John Farnham got it right. If Paul says it then I'll agree.
He was teaching himself to play this on piano and was playing it slowly, to get used to the chords. He thought it sounded better at the slower tempo. So he rearranged the song.
One week you're watching an aussie do an american cover song and the following week you're watching another aussie doing an english cover song. As you can see, aussies hear music abit different to others😊
Tina Turner loved John's version so much that she did the same and put her own further spin on this classic. Lennon did get to hear this before he was killed and loved it as well.
Tina Turner covered John's version. John's wife has been his greatest help through more than 50 yrs. John has an approximate 3octave range including tenor
How about John with Jimmy Barnes doing something is wrong with my baby. That was done live on Hey Hey It's Saturday. The vocals in that are incredible and the guitarist that joins them towards the end is known as Johhny Diesel
