I think the horrific on/off numbers defensively also comes from the fact that Isaac plays when he doesn’t and when Isaac has been on the floor they have a defensive rating of like 97 💀 so it makes his defense look worse than he is (still not a great defender just not that much of a liability)
One thing I forgot to say and noticed right away when watching back some plays, It seems like he’s reacting too much, not in control at all.. I think part of that comes from being bigger and stronger than everyone until he got to the nba, so he didn’t really need to do that much.. that being said, even if he were to become an average defender, it would be really beneficial
I don't remember him being this bad when the Magic had that early season run with a top 3 defense. It's possible it's regressing to a mean but we need an eye test across multiple games and matchups to really tell. But man, Isaac is so good defensively that he makes any player he subs in for look like a defensive liability based on the numbers.
@@DoubleDworth I dont think he's as bad defensively as you make him out to be, but he's got potential to be a very good defender. He moves his feet really well for a guy his size, and when he does challenge guys at the rim, he seems to have very good timing on his blocks. I would like to see more effort from him, but when he's leading the team in points, rebounds and assists per game its not easy to put full effort on defense for 82 games. His defense is something im watching closely in the play offs to see if he can step it up. Speaking of the play offs, hopefully this Magic team will put on a show and make it competitive so more people will start paying attention to them. I dont really expect them to advance to the second round with Paolo and Franz being second and third year players and without a good PG. Next season with more experience and 40 million in cap space to spend, the Magic can win 50 games.
@@DoubleDworthI’ve watched every single game of the magic. He already is average on defense, doesn’t get hunted can switch and guard the guards. Will only get better
borderline third team all nba candidate, his 2nd year leap is legit! several % increase in shooting from the floor and 3, most importantly with his usage rate is the leap in assists as well while not drastically turning the ball over gives orlando faith that he's the guy to build around for the future.
He dropped a fitty bomb other night. They started losing when he got injured. If they start winning again when he’s back. Might have to change your mind
I agree that he needs to improve on defense. But the differential is a little misleading when you realize that his primary backup this season has been Jonathan Isaac, one of the best defenders in the league. Meaning as soon as he comes out, the defense gets a huge boost by Isaac's presence. And they rarely share the court together except for in some late game situations. Still, great analysis and he definitely has improvements to make at that end. But he's already improved exponentially as a defender since college and is far from a liability.
This video is just perfect. Casuals need to watch this to understand why magic fans are high on P5 Winning this early ain’t normal think that’s why he has a lot of haters. SGA took 6 years before leading a team to the playoffs

Sad, because the only reason he's not getting his dur respect outside of Orlando, is because the networks and media, pity little ole markets like Orlando. Go Magic!
Maybe because he’s playing in a small marketed team if he was playing somewhere like the Celtics lakers Knicks warriors he would be in the face of the league conversation.
The video was on point until you got to Paolo's defense. Paolo is a good defender, just watch him play and you'll know that. Those off on numbers is because the best defender in the league Jonathan Isaac comes off our bench. We also probably have the best second unit in the league which is another reason Paolo's on/off numbers look like that. Our 2nd unit destroys most other teams backups. Almost forgot. @@YourWorstNightmare3333 nope-primary object of the game is to put that ball thru the net-“great defense” as you call it is in reality just getting away with fouling in contrast with how the game was intended to be played & that is just plain boring & stupid!

Has improved massively on defense thanks to that USA stint

In year 2 this is crazy how good he is
He's so underappreciated and overly critiqued
That is because Jonathan Issac is backing him up. JI is that much of a defense presence.
For real magic needs more recognition
They have been nothing short of amazing this year
Wos got dropped on his head as a child. It’s not his fault 8:38
I don't like too many people from the ringer 🤦🏽♂️😂

It’s gonna be tough with wemby and Luka in the picture but man is this guy gonna be good
He’s the next freight train nobody can stop
