I think I still take Rodman over Draymond, but it’s a good comparison. Played almost identical roles, draymond facilitated more and Rodman was a rebounding genius
It always baffles me to hear people say Draymond could be replaced by any all start caliber forward. He's what it looks like for a player to nearly perfect his role. Anchor on defense, elite playmaker on offense.
I do not like Draymond Green, but I respect his play. I recently saw some fools on Reddit say that Dame ranks higher than Dray all time. Apparently a ROTY is worth more than four championships and a DPOY now.
Ive been saying it since I started watching this team, Draymond is the second most important piece to this team over the years. Despite all the antics, he has been THE anchor defensively for an entire dynasty.
Draymond a unique skill set on both ends makes him one of my favorite players/power forwards of all time, he literally changed the modern nba in terms of small ball center

When I consider all aspects of defense, there's a case he's number one. He's def. the best guy alltime who can guard 1-5. His IQ on defense is 2nd to none. The stats will just blind people.

Draymond is the kind of player that his infamy will be more legacy defining than his fame. He will be remembered for his flagrant foul, suspensions, fights, like Ron Artest, that is remembered first for Malice at the Palice than for being a good player.
I get why he has so little respect for Rudy Gobert. As good as Gobert is as a paint defender, he's lacking in other areas that you'd expect from a 4x DPOY. Prime Draymond was an elite on-ball defender, help-defender, post-defender, rim-protector, defensive floor general, pick-pocket, etc. Literally zero weaknesses in his defensive game. If any player in the modern era deserved to be a 4x DPOY, it's Draymond Green. The fact that he was given the award only 1x with how dominant he was on that end of the floor is a travesty.
ahh the good old days when Dray was actually an elite defender and the league hadn't adapted yet. These days he's lazy AF much of the time and most smart teams have scouted his tendencies and weaknesses.
you have to deal with all that defensive brilliance and the 100% knowledge that he will kick you in the balls or elbow you in the dome if your winning. It's actually 100% effective winning efficiency gameplay you must salute it.
He is definitely the best modern defender (best in the last 10 years). It is very difficult to say ever because the game and the players have changed so much over the years, but he's up there. He Captain's the Warrior's defence and they need his presence and communication just as much as they need his physicality, his IQ and his athleticism.

Something you didn’t even mention is how strong he is. He’s near impossible to move off his spot in the post, can’t rip balls out of other players hands and if somebody drives into him it’s like they’re hitting a brick wall.
A lot of people forget that the Warriors were rooted in defense before they won the 2015 championship. Mark Jackson should be given credit for instilling that culture of defense led by Draymond. Mark Jackson walked so Steve Kerr could run, and run he did.
No he wasn’t, but he was at his peak on par with everybody who isn’t Olajuwan Duncan Pippen or Kawhi. Outside of those four and maybe a few other GOAT level defenders??? He’s genuinely in the conversation with anybody. His team defense, his quarterbacking and doing for the defense what a guy like Magic did for the offense is incalculable. But even then, his genuine lockdown ability was massive. And his swithchability is almost unparalleled throughout history. He might not completely stop them, but you were never like “damn, he got Draymond on him we’re cooked.”
I really think draymond would’ve lasted longer as far as a defensive prime if the Warriors hadn’t had him guarding centers and perimeter players. Should’ve just went and got a big man
