Dave, I'm the old guy from east central Florida with 200+ orchids (all types). You're doing good job. There is so much to learn and know with orchids. I live on RUclips. I grow 95% of my plants outside in the open, under a huge oak tree, and 60% of them in a shade room covered with 60% UV coverage shade cloth, which I need to drop 50%. I have practically no problem with insects. I think it is because of using Rick L's method of never watering without a calcium supplement. I use 50 -75 ppm. I would also warn your viewers of fungus problems in the rainy season, for all plants in setups similar to ours. I have only lost 2 plants in the last year because of my vigilance of allowing the roots dry out, especially Cattleyas, during the rainy season. I forget about watering and liquid fertilization, especially as temp's start to drop. About 4 years ago during September/ October it rained/drizzled for 30 days straight. I lost 40 plants within a week to fungus. I about died and most stopped growing orchids. I think my calcium routine has not only helped with insects but has hardened the plants to fungus attacks.
I truly appreciate your lovely comment! It’s great to know that my videos are helping you, and I’m thrilled you enjoy my sense of humor. Blessings back to you!
Great video! I grow my orchids in my apartment's balcony. Few years ago someone gave me an orchid that introduced some kind of pest into some of my orchids. It was a crumenatum orchid. A few weeks ago I had to let go of that orchid. 😢
These fungi drive me crazy! What do you do to treat your orchid?
“I spend half my life looking for things” felt that in my soul.
