i feel happy for the blind and the handicapped people, this would change the world. Also the thought that i'm probably going to never have to experience driving a car, since by that time cars will be driving themselves, it's insane :).
It will probably be another 5-10 years before its owned by the mass but i'm pretty positive they'll still have an auto drive mechanic. It's important to have those motor skills and still feels awesome to drive like a person saving the world.
Wow, this brought tears to my eyes. I had no idea he was blind and the fact that you can a whole new experience to blind, disabled people and older persons . Driving and mobility issues can be the largest ibarriers in the type of life one can lead. Independence is a key factor in the decisions people make. Can I do this on my own ? Why should I have to call anyone for help? I did not realize how much this technology could change the lives of so many.

How would driving this be lazy? That is the same thing as saying driving a normal car would be lazy too because you aren't doing anything either way...
Actually, in a normal car (assuming you even meant an automatic rather than a manual), you ARE doing something. Even in an automatic, you have throttle pedal and the brake pedal and the steering wheel to operate, duh! Plus, of course you even have to put your automatic into your chosen mode. There's plenty of stuff you have to do even with an auto!
MaxxFordham Oh cmon. I work a physical job plus this and every job for the last 20+ years has had me driving 150 to 200 miles or more a day, mostly city. I'm sick of driving and its not even exercise. Add in likely to be much safer and I'm all in.
I probably wouldn't like to buy one of these cars unless I could drive it normally from time to time... but this actually seems really useful! ^_^; I would use it when I was tired and still had to go someplace, haha. I really like controlling the car on my own, though; I would never be happy with just sitting in the car all of the time and doing absolutely nothing. I'd probably do some steering on the trip or something. Also, did anybody else notice how the car never seemed to signal?
Such ground breaking technology from google yet again. Never stop improving, and never stop being that innovative force that the whole world thinks of.

Have your car driving you somewhere on the freeway. GPS in the car screws up. Suddenly find yourself careening off the side several stories down. No thanks. I want my hands on the steering wheel, where I won't have to worry about some glitchy gps killing me.
spastickid218 This car can drive better than you ever could. Sure they won't be perfect, but I'd be willing to bet the chances of it getting in an accident is less than the chances of you getting in one. I'd rather drive home in a self-driving car than in your backseat.
spastickid218 That's why that big thing is on the top. It builds up a model of the world around the car, independently of the maps or the GPS signal. Phuc Gugal Holy shit, get over it you fucking moron it's not even that bad. Just adapt. You don't have to actually use google+ once your account is made.
Phuc Gugal Literally name one thing you've encountered since linking your account that's bothered you. Once you make one you never have to use it again. You can just go on RUclips. And if not, then you're just a moron who doesn't know how to get around the internet.
I feel that (unless this already exists) that something as simple as a sat mac can be used to program the location, and the car uses sensors to follow the sat nav, by seeing where the roads are and what turns are coming up soon. Combine that with the laser system like on this car and that top gear race truck and it would probably work
In Buenos Aires (Argentina) there are as 38000 cabs, plus 400 remises agencies (private car hiring, 80% illegal). That means that only in this city, it is necessary to reeducate at least 50K of drivers into another profession with the arrival of SDC. That would imply that a large investment is required, but also that will join the productivity of the work of those people.
It is foolish to leave that drastic social change in the hands of the market. It is required a planned transition to maximize the overall productivity and the overall welfare of the society. That is a responsibility delegated to the government.
Ok, I get the fact that it can measure distance and impact and all that crazy number shit. What I don't get is how the hell does the car know where to stop for the intercom and where the 1st or 2nd window is in a drive thru? INCONCEIVABLE!!!
I am continually amazed at this technology! Imagine that your aging grandparents can have a reliable vehicle helping them to get to appointments (Eve n though they are still responsible for driving and license). Imagine the additional support that disabled drivers will have.
KingRyt Please. They're just a search engine! They don't know how to do these things!!! They just try and make it look like they actually know what they are talking about.
It'll accommodate them by doing what you would do to handle idiots on the road. And plus, this it's all being tested right now. When it really has a use is when close to everyone on the road has self driving car in the years to come, and there will be no idiots on the road in the first place.
Hello sir, I have a blog on which Google adsence is approved the. A email come about you can show the ads. When I opened my adsence account it says you can't show ads because their are some issue's on your blog for them the. Automatically the ads will be shown... What to do now?

I know in the future cars will be flying, b4 we get there this type of car should also be available for noun drivers. I'm just simply afraid of driving was one thing I wasn't good at. In future it would great only if this car is affordable for all. Good luck you masters minds!
One day everybody's gonna have a self-driving car, and then people in the future are gonna be like "Damn, driving your own car?! It was so dangerous back then!" haha
I have a seizure disorder in real life and can't really drive but after seeing self-driving cars, I would like to get one that's customized for those with Epilepsy or just seizure disorders in general. I honestly wish that people with medical issues can get self-driving cars with medical alert logos. Thumbs up if you agree.
I really hope this becomes a reality personally I can not drive because of my sight limitations and I have always been a big fan of google and if anyone can do it it is them. I believe this is possible
Think of the future, everyone has an automated car..then, somebody like Alex Jones gets into his car and says to the car :84 avenue, The goverment wanting to get rid of him, overrides the gps..then Bam ! the doors lock, the car accelerates to 80 mph and drives straight off a cliff.Yup, I'd rather drive the car myself thank you., or the other senario.. Everyone has an automated car, then somebody hacks the GPS system, causes thousands of deaths, then the Gov shuts down all cars and your stranded until they figure it all out.
Even in this incredibly unlikely scenario in which well over 1,000 people died from cars being hacked. It would still be better than the over 30,000 people that die from car accidents each year in the U.S. alone. I'll never understand why people are so afraid of new technology which is clearly way better. Seriously! I don't get it.
You think "The Government" needs the excuse of an automated automobile to kill you? Lmao. You probably also think the earth is 6k years old, way to hinder technological progress, #Derp
In a world full of automated cars, a car that accelerated itself to 80 mph off of a cliff would cause a whole lot of attention, don't you think? Furthermore, most hackers aren't sociopaths, they're greedy. There's a difference between cracking into your computer to use in a botnet and hacking into your car and fucking driving you off of a cliff.
Nobody will be able to afford it, because nobody will have a job when it becomes mainstreamed. When the cabbies and truckers are unemployed by this, and the bus line is shut down to sell more of these, everybody who is not rich will not be able to afford this or any vehicle. I certainly won't be able to afford it; I have never driven nor owned a car simply because I have not found a job, nor left college. My family is far from loaded, so I am currently confined to walking distance and my bicycle.
Assuming you're right, does that mean you support the Luddites (destroying technology in order to keep employment)? Would it not be better to make a shift in the economic paradigm and update to one that supports the reality of maximizing technical labor rather than manual labor?
As with everything new - the world will need to adapt to these changes. Taxi companies will be able to set up as car rental type companies - so rather than wander to the taxi rank after an evening of drink you will walk to a car rental rank - pay by card and it will drive you home - then drive itself back to the rank! I personally don't think in 10/15 years time people will own cars in the same way as they do now
Ben Wilde I like Federico Pistono's version of the possible transition into semi-autonomous vehicles and various events along with society adapting to this: robotswillstealyourjob. com/read/part1/ch7-evidence-automation#x1-90001.8
JP Kloess sure but with electronix everything can be disabled. I also don't know if I would be sitting in the drivers seat... id prob be in the backseat watching RUclips :)
JP Kloess They have, there is a large red button on the center console. Google has also announced they have implemented anti-hacking features on top of this.
Would it be possible that because these cars will mostly be connected to wifi that they could get hacked? I read an article about an everyday Jeep getting hacked (as an experiment), cutting it's radio and transmission. I sure hope nothing like that will happen once these cars become the norm.
+Fashionbykiley There will undoubtedly be protective measures against that, with a read-only OS. Updates would probably be something that you would have to manually install by disc, with user ID confirmation. That's what I would do, and I've only spent a minute thinking about it. Likely Google will have a better system.
The thing about idealistic ventures is that you can always see how they will finally end up and what a waste of time and resources they ultimately will be. After the first fatality caused by one of these ridiculous self driving vehicles, the entire concept of a self driving car, and any projects involving them, will cease immediately and permanently.
Did that stop the automobile from coming off of the assembly line in mass production in the 1920s, or the rise of the freeway in the 1950s? Did it stop hive minded people from eating it all up and leaving themselves at the mercy of large corporations? The automobile gives too many people the power to wreak havoc individually. This is a step in the right and wrong direction at once. Right, because needless casualties from reckless driving and poor reaction time will cease. Wrong, because a motor based society is still a motor based society. By reinforcing automobile reliance, people will walk even less and fall out of shape. We saw what happened when cars were mainstreamed. This won't improve matters in the long term beyond collision aversion.
***** True. Here is constructive criticism. I'm sure the same was said about the move from horse and buggies to the cars we have now. Or when we went to space. There are always casualties, unfortunately that is the price we pay for advancements in technology.
Dan Whitehouse I think you responded to the wrong person. Anyway, the very existence of self driven cars is evidence that we rely on motor vehicles far more than we need to, often driving even when walking is every bit as practical. The question is: Will people ever return to walking the way they were designed to do, or will walking forever cease?
***** You don't need to think positive you need to think realistically. A fatal accident will not stop the production of Self-Driving cars but will further enhance whatever measures needed to keep making them safer.
This is incredible and would benefit so many people. It will increase safety, taking out human errors... Sleeping behind the wheel, drunk driving, speeding due to road rage, careless young drivers ect.
it will benefit the elderly, handicapped, blind who are unable to drive.
And long road trips for families and truck drivers will become easier and much more enjoyable.

Correct. Having one's own personal vehicle is most practical for:
1) Fetching a large bulk of groceries and hardware to support several.
2) Long distance travel, such as transcontinental, or international.
3) Serve the physically handicapped.
or 4) You live in a rural setting, and mass transit or walking are impractical.
Otherwise, there is no reason not to walk, ride a bicycle, or take a bus/cab in the meantime.

I wish people would stop complaining about the google plus comments integration with youtube. Don't say anything stupid and you won't have to worry about it being tracked and revealed on your profile. By the way this is great, google is disturbingly innovative.
it suck period, my name says it all.

+Joseph Salvoni Yeah, how is it going to deal with idiots on the road? I feel like this technology certainly won't work in Florida...
It'll accommodate them by doing what you would do to handle idiots on the road. And plus, this it's all being tested right now. When it really has a use is when close to everyone on the road has self driving car in the years to come, and there will be no idiots on the road in the first place.

okay there will always be a counter argument, but what is in place to stop someone hacking and driving it off a cliff?
People can already hack your car now, it's not new. This is the same thing
I guess because that would be illegal, immoral and land the hacker in jail for murder.
would take a lot of time to hack it and change the code so it will drive from the cliff..
Ben Morris if they can find the guy. he/she can be in India doing this.
On the plus side many things come to mind, but most of all is Safety. How wonderful it would be!

I honestly wish that people with medical issues can get self-driving cars with medical alert logos. Thumbs up if you agree.
I really hope this becomes a reality personally I can not drive because of my sight limitations and I have always been a big fan of google and if anyone can do it it is them. I believe this is possible

If only I'd have seen the turn indicators going on with every turn the self made - would've believed this a 100%
Think of the future, everyone has an automated car..then, somebody like Alex Jones gets into his car and says to the car :84 avenue, The goverment wanting to get rid of him, overrides the gps..then Bam ! the doors lock, the car accelerates to 80 mph and drives straight off a cliff.Yup, I'd rather drive the car myself thank you., or the other senario..
Anyways, they'd likely include an override feature... for obvious reasons.
You think "The Government" needs the excuse of an automated automobile to kill you? Lmao. You probably also think the earth is 6k years old, way to hinder technological progress, #Derp
oh, its just one more way to do it, they are all ready killing us with Radiation and GMO's.
This happens everyday Bud.
I personally don't think in 10/15 years time people will own cars in the same way as they do now
Ben Wilde I like Federico Pistono's version of the possible transition into semi-autonomous vehicles and various events along with society adapting to this:
robotswillstealyourjob. com/read/part1/ch7-evidence-automation#x1-90001.8
This isn't 100% driverless. You can resume control of the vehicle by pushing the brake.
oh yeah and hope hackers wont be able to hack it like they do everything that uses gps
They would need to implement a fail safe so that the user can take control of the vehicle at any time.
JP Kloess
sure but with electronix everything can be disabled. I also don't know if I would be sitting in the drivers seat... id prob be in the backseat watching RUclips :)
JP Kloess They have, there is a large red button on the center console. Google has also announced they have implemented anti-hacking features on top of this.
Watch Dogs
JP Kloess google cars wont have breaks or steering wheel. What is next pilot-less planes
RalphArwen That's good to know!
why would the car be connected ?
Technology is amazing!
My uncle helped make this
The thing about idealistic ventures is that you can always see how they will finally end up and what a waste of time and resources they ultimately will be.
Dan Whitehouse
I think you responded to the wrong person.
***** Why do I even bother
Olá Google prazer e orgulho em obter te
