    This is incredible and would benefit so many people. It will increase safety, taking out human errors... Sleeping behind the wheel, drunk driving, speeding due to road rage, careless young drivers ect.
    it will benefit the elderly, handicapped, blind who are unable to drive.
    And long road trips for families and truck drivers will become easier and much more enjoyable.

    I would really love to know more about this for my 17 year old son that is visually impaired.
    His vision is 200 / 400 and this would just bring up his spirit because he was told ,he would never be able to drive. Hearing this at his age when all of his friends are talking about what kind of car they are going to get. Please send me some info about this.Thank you

    I lost my peripheral vision from a stroke, my husband died a few years ago and now I am basically a prisoner in my own house. THe area I live is just outside the bus routes, so I have no transportation. I didn't realize how much losing that driving would impact my life. I can't go to the store, to church or even doctors appointments. II so wish these cars were more available. Keep it up Google & others so you may help others in the future like me.

    Correct. Having one's own personal vehicle is most practical for:
    1) Fetching a large bulk of groceries and hardware to support several.
    2) Long distance travel, such as transcontinental, or international.
    3) Serve the physically handicapped.
    or 4) You live in a rural setting, and mass transit or walking are impractical.
    Otherwise, there is no reason not to walk, ride a bicycle, or take a bus/cab in the meantime.

    This technology should be incorporated into driving test so that no bias is incorporated into the result of a student driver.
    The result should be able to re-evaluated if pleaded by student drivers.
    There is lot of biases and differences which different examiners incorporate into test results of students.
    Hope so.

Driving and mobility issues can be the largest ibarriers in the type of life one can lead. Independence is a key factor in the decisions people make. Can I do this on my own ? Why should I have to call anyone for help? I did not realize how much this technology could change the lives of so many.

      true lazy people will abuse it, but I'm interested in the blind. People who are blind cannot drive, if google made this a new thing(minus that weird thingy on the roof), then people who are old, blind, or cant drive. Can.

    • @HelloKittyFanMan.
      @HelloKittyFanMan. 10 лет назад +1

      Actually, in a normal car (assuming you even meant an automatic rather than a manual), you ARE doing something. Even in an automatic, you have throttle pedal and the brake pedal and the steering wheel to operate, duh! Plus, of course you even have to put your automatic into your chosen mode. There's plenty of stuff you have to do even with an auto!

    I probably wouldn't like to buy one of these cars unless I could drive it normally from time to time... but this actually seems really useful! ^_^; I would use it when I was tired and still had to go someplace, haha. I really like controlling the car on my own, though; I would never be happy with just sitting in the car all of the time and doing absolutely nothing. I'd probably do some steering on the trip or something.
    Also, did anybody else notice how the car never seemed to signal?

      Have your car driving you somewhere on the freeway. GPS in the car screws up. Suddenly find yourself careening off the side several stories down.
      No thanks. I want my hands on the steering wheel, where I won't have to worry about some glitchy gps killing me.

    • @puipuni
      @puipuni 10 лет назад +2

      spastickid218 This car can drive better than you ever could. Sure they won't be perfect, but I'd be willing to bet the chances of it getting in an accident is less than the chances of you getting in one. I'd rather drive home in a self-driving car than in your backseat.

    • @Niosus
      @Niosus 10 лет назад +2

      spastickid218 That's why that big thing is on the top. It builds up a model of the world around the car, independently of the maps or the GPS signal. It can detect individual traffic cones at construction sites. It's not gonna crash you off the road...
      FYI large airplanes already pretty much fly by themselves. You probably already trusted your life many times while going 10x faster above the clouds.
      What you are experiencing is xenophobia. It seems strange to you so you have some irrational fear. It's normal, all humans have it. It'll go over when you see these things on the road every day.

    I feel that (unless this already exists) that something as simple as a sat mac can be used to program the location, and the car uses sensors to follow the sat nav, by seeing where the roads are and what turns are coming up soon. Combine that with the laser system like on this car and that top gear race truck and it would probably work

    In Buenos Aires (Argentina) there are as 38000 cabs, plus 400 remises agencies (private car hiring, 80% illegal). That means that only in this city, it is necessary to reeducate at least 50K of drivers into another profession with the arrival of SDC. That would imply that a large investment is required, but also that will join the productivity of the work of those people.

    • @EloySerra

      It is foolish to leave that drastic social change in the hands of the market. It is required a planned transition to maximize the overall productivity and the overall welfare of the society. That is a responsibility delegated to the government.

    Think of the future, everyone has an automated car..then, somebody like Alex Jones gets into his car and says to the car :84 avenue, The goverment wanting to get rid of him, overrides the gps..then Bam ! the doors lock, the car accelerates to 80 mph and drives straight off a cliff.Yup, I'd rather drive the car myself thank you., or the other senario.. Everyone has an automated car, then somebody hacks the GPS system, causes thousands of deaths, then the Gov shuts down all cars and your stranded until they figure it all out.

      Even in this incredibly unlikely scenario in which well over 1,000 people died from cars being hacked. It would still be better than the over 30,000 people that die from car accidents each year in the U.S. alone. I'll never understand why people are so afraid of new technology which is clearly way better. Seriously! I don't get it.

      In a world full of automated cars, a car that accelerated itself to 80 mph off of a cliff would cause a whole lot of attention, don't you think? Furthermore, most hackers aren't sociopaths, they're greedy. There's a difference between cracking into your computer to use in a botnet and hacking into your car and fucking driving you off of a cliff.

    Nobody will be able to afford it, because nobody will have a job when it becomes mainstreamed. When the cabbies and truckers are unemployed by this, and the bus line is shut down to sell more of these, everybody who is not rich will not be able to afford this or any vehicle. I certainly won't be able to afford it; I have never driven nor owned a car simply because I have not found a job, nor left college. My family is far from loaded, so I am currently confined to walking distance and my bicycle.

      As with everything new - the world will need to adapt to these changes. Taxi companies will be able to set up as car rental type companies - so rather than wander to the taxi rank after an evening of drink you will walk to a car rental rank - pay by card and it will drive you home - then drive itself back to the rank! I personally don't think in 10/15 years time people will own cars in the same way as they do now

    The thing about idealistic ventures is that you can always see how they will finally end up and what a waste of time and resources they ultimately will be. After the first fatality caused by one of these ridiculous self driving vehicles, the entire concept of a self driving car, and any projects involving them, will cease immediately and permanently.

    • @TheNotverysocial

      Did that stop the automobile from coming off of the assembly line in mass production in the 1920s, or the rise of the freeway in the 1950s? Did it stop hive minded people from eating it all up and leaving themselves at the mercy of large corporations? The automobile gives too many people the power to wreak havoc individually. This is a step in the right and wrong direction at once. Right, because needless casualties from reckless driving and poor reaction time will cease. Wrong, because a motor based society is still a motor based society. By reinforcing automobile reliance, people will walk even less and fall out of shape. We saw what happened when cars were mainstreamed. This won't improve matters in the long term beyond collision aversion.

    • @dwhitehouse

      ***** True. Here is constructive criticism. I'm sure the same was said about the move from horse and buggies to the cars we have now. Or when we went to space. There are always casualties, unfortunately that is the price we pay for advancements in technology.

      I think you responded to the wrong person. Anyway, the very existence of self driven cars is evidence that we rely on motor vehicles far more than we need to, often driving even when walking is every bit as practical. The question is: Will people ever return to walking the way they were designed to do, or will walking forever cease?
